@JLW75642 3 minutes ago Late question to an old video but on a 2009 Mercury Optimax XL 225. if my airpump blew and the piston was cracked and I replaced teh airpump new belt and it ran fine. After being WOP I slowed down in a No wake zone and the motor died. It would nto start until I raised the motor/prop out of water started and then ran fine. Should I have checked the lines to see if there was any shavings of metal in lines or fuel filter? I cannot understand how it ran for a good 20 minutes I stopped started and then when I slowed in a no wake just died and would not start for over 5 tries until I raised motor up? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Do you have a part number for that bolt? Want a spare…..or 2. In the meantime I’ll locktite mine.
Keep spreading the truth my man
Can somebody help me tell me why is my starboard side and my DF 250 overheating I have everything replaced new water pump pressure wall thermostats, spark plugs everything I could think of please help please help😢
What causes water to get into the pump reservoir??
A Mrec 250 XS 4 stroke has been recalled due to a lack of a cowl bezel, posing a risk of finger injury, not a defective engine transom bracket. Have a great weekend✨💖
By by don't cry she gone
Just got a recall for my Mrec 250 XS 4 stroke. They say that there is a problem with a lack of a cowl bezel and chance of finger injury. LMAO They are concerned with a operator sticking their fingers in a running engine but not a defective engine transom bracket which could kill you When the Damm motor comes flying into the boat they got to be shifting me. 🤪
Did you really ficjin baptise it 😂 thanks for this video ensures me what im hearing is most likely the fuel injection. This was Loud
I work at a Mercury/Yamaha dealer. Yeah, i've seen this happen. I've also seen various important fasteners around the engine that are not tightened at all, or severely overtorqued causing cracks. Pretty much every single engine i service has some kind of oil, water or fuel leak. Most technicians just turn a blind eye to the problems haunting the V8's and V6's, because after the warranty is over, it's the owner's problem, and Mercury doesn't pay the dealers enough for us to want to do these jobs.. If you have a Mercury V8/V6 produced before 2022, it WILL leak salt water from various points of the exhaust manifold (because they DIDN'T REMOVE THE CASTING MARKS ON THE SEALING SURFACES, and designed all the other o-ring grooves poorly). Other very common faults: Gear shift actuator (sits underwater. not watertight), defective starter motor (water leaking directly onto it due to poor design of the top cowling, your dealer can remedy this), Defective/leaking power trim unit(early engines had bad PT motors, older engines leak everywhere), peeling large chunks of paint from all parts made of aluminum (Extremely common, over 90%), And many more. 2,5% of our engines serviced per year are Mercury, and the rest are Yamahas. This year we had a few warranty jobs on Yamahas (updating ECU's + minor service bulletins), but the 4 engines currently in took 2 weeks of work to fix all leaks and problems, and we have to wait until spring before the parts finally arrive. Pretty much everything we order is on back order. 300H service kits are over 2 months away!!! WHY choose Mercury?!
Sounds like the air compressor. Check that first before jumping to piston rid
I want to know how you got that motor and pump out so fast. Access to mine are a total pain in the ass
We have a guy in Baton Rouge that makes house calls. I only use him for my motor. I have back up pumps, motors and boards. Have you had a strut go bad? My Allison stays pretty dry in the back and after each trip I open the compartments and put a fan on them, but I inevitably get a weeping pole, that won’t stay up(😎🤡) and on two occasions it has been the cylinder that has gone bad. So, I am going to get a replacement cylinder. Now that the crappie brakes are out, the anchor part of the power pole is almost obsolete , with the exception of being the device that drops the crappie brake into the water. So I might switch from the 10 foot poles, which do have way more problems, to the 6 foot poles. What do you think ? I bet you have not installed a crappie brake set yet. Just wait. They are comin
sounds more like a worn out belt tensioner pulley,..,
Should I be scared of a rebuilt my mercury dealer 2007 ProXS. Runs good owner said. Has had it a year and just needs the money for personal stuff
This info is great but wouldn't it have made sense to then show how to fix the problem?
Anyone experienced a miss once in the plane and cruising it’s dripping on and off 300rpm . Pretty much throughout the rev range. A local dealer told me they do it from brand new?? It’s a 225 2021 V8 XSPRO

How do you recalibrate and set it after reinstall?
How do you intend to solve the root cause of the issue (i.e. the water leaking in)? RTV silicone the Ranger hole or?
Very cool.
Here's one for you (this is the SHORT Version, LOL!). My Son bought a Used 2011 Haney 21' Cat with a 200 Optimax from a Dealer here in Texas about 8 months ago. The Dealer said they took it in as a Trade -in toward a new boat and that after performing a complete Inspection, they went ahead and did a "Full Service" on the Engine. In that 8 months, my Son has been able to "Use" that Boat twice-Once when he 1st got it and then this last weekend because of Issues with the Hull that the Dealer said they'd inspected (after the Problems were found, they then said that they DIDN'T Inspect it.....Yeah, RIGHT!). So anyway, he got his boat back this last Friday and we went down to POC. We stopped to put Gas in it and everyone Recommended running "Ethanol Free" 90 Octane. My Son couldn't find anything saying NOT to, just make sure it's a minimum of 87. So we went out, ran about 15 minutes and stopped. a few hours later, went to go somewhere else and heard a "Pinging" that we couldn't figure out. We killed the engine and made it back to the dock because that pretty much killed the trip. My Son pulled the Cowl and found where the Engine had Thrown a Rod through the Block.....And like I said, during the 8 months he's owned the Boat he's "Used" it twice and put a total of less than 3 hours (yes, I said THREE) on that Dealer serviced and Certified Engine! Thankfully, when my Son bought the Boat, the Dealer talked him into getting a $5,000.00 "Warranty/Insurance" package that they said covered the Powerhead/electronics/etc (it said if they can't find a replacement, then they'll upgrade to the next model). We're taking it down today so that they can "See if they are gonna cover it". I've held off posting who this Dealer is on the Forums for the Past 8 Months (he should have actually been "raked over the Coals" for all of the Shady Crap that he and his "Fiberglass Guy" have pulled). IF they don't honor that "Warranty" , it's gonna be "No Hold's Barred" and I'll post EVERYTHING that's taken place (and it will Surprise an awful lot of Folks as to who it is).
so who was it?
Evinrude parts are still available, they did not go out of business they just focused there production to the new Rotax outboard. I’m not happy with what they did and the decisions they made but the G2 is a fantastic motor and still is fully backed under warranty
Anything with Tom is awesome!!!!! 😎 I need a box of his jigs!!!!!!!
Where can you get a pin if it falls out?
Tom must have run his boat at less than 2' of water........
Most problematic outboard I’ve ever owned was an 225 opti
200 opti just blew on me. Always been a POS
Just put a deposit down on a boat….comes with 115 mercury pro xs. What am I to expect in the future with problems? Never mind the Bayliner Trophy name…just motor. Thanks!
This should be a recall, this is a very common issue. 2021 motor and mine has fell out twice.
That was a roll pin for the last 30 years. Probably should have made the sensor adjustable. Still rocking a 200 Optimax
Those G2's might be the ugliest outboards of all time
I think they look great!
Looks like the starter bolts were lose; see all the play when he moved it around. Try that with another motor and see. Perhaps that was / is the problem....
So I gotta ask. Should I take my new boat with a 200 Mercury in and have the address this?
If you are having issues for sure!
@@teammarinetv7326 I guess I’m confused… Is it a legitimate recall? Like we should get notified like car owners get notified? Have they issued a service notice regardless? In the Automotive world they send out a recall letter to the owners and depending on issue; say you have a limited time to have said recall performed at no cost Is this current issue a recall be performed/corrected at no cost? Sorry for the confusion.
Question, my set pin screw came out what is the bolt size needed? Mercury proXs 200hp
I l like your hoodie!!
You need to deploy the minnkota at the same time to get that waterlogged old boat on plane
Andy is 100% like my dad was as a kid growing up a pure smartass that followed that learn by experience mentality but after a lot of small issues it made me learn to look at everything before we launch. Take time now so we have no issues once on the water. Slow is fast and fast is slow.
Can you fix his glasses, cause they seem to be broken too!😂😂😂 maybe a pair like Bubbles on Trailer Park Boy’s will help!
Would love a team marine cap!
No content in a month on this channel. What you guys have already posted is good but how about some good postings.
Had a buddy hit a point on Lake Erie by the Bass Islands with his Merc and Lund and it cleaned the lower unit off !! It looked like the last shot in the video. He said he actually heard a splash when his boat coasted to a stop.
You guys rock this happened to my motor and I talked to you guys about it and a possibility of a video!! Well smack my ass and call me tommy this will save someone from having a bad day like me thanks
Sooooo Cool....
Andy should have tilted that motor up to back that boat down, not the truck driver's fault.
Ok Andy. We need a opinion on who has the toughest lower unit/gear case. Mercury Yamaha Suzuki
Rebuild it, it hasn’t came apart yet easily rebuildable, but I guess it’s easier just to bolt on a new motor,
Best service in the world! Awesome mechanic. I would drive a long ways to use this guy. He saved my day.
Appreciate ya Steve!!
Wish you lived in Oklahoma
Cool video very interesting what they go threw
Mine fell out. March 27 snapped that tee right off of the ram. Mercury couldn't get parts till August 19 and I bet that was a lie. Ended up trading a 2021 620 ranger for a2022 1880 angler of course probably losing 10000 to 12000 dollars on the deal. I can tell you Mercury don't give to shits about a guy that was going to lose the whole summer. So disappointed in my ranger Mercury adventure.
Same thing happen to me with a 2021 250hp I paid cash for (mistake) It had maybe 30 hours on it and I was fishing the Toyota Series on lake Seminole in southwest Ga. After it was all said and done Mercury fix the problem after I drove 4 hours one way but the $1800 entree fee and the 5 days of practice and fuel, food ect. It’s cost me around 6k Thanks Mercury Y’all suck
I thought brp was going to still supply parts for 12 yrs and still service their dealers. And every shop Should stock a prop for evinrudes and mercs.
You are correct Evinrude is still supplying parts and covering warranty 👍🏻
