A Pocketknife with Bearings!
Many modern pocketknives have blades supported by thrust bearings made of steel (or increasingly ceramics) held in place by a bearing cage. Although they might seem potentially susceptible to damage, bearing designs have proved to be remarkably tough and long lasting, provided proper care is taken.

What is KPL DRY FILM?

knifepivotlube.com/blogs/knife-pivot-lube/dry-film™-by-knife-pivot-lube-has-launched Unlike our synthetic fluid lubricants (KPL Original, Ultra-Light, and Heavy), DRY FILM™ goes on as a liquid, but quickly flashes off to leave behind a 100% dry fluorinated layer. Unlike competing products, Dry Film has no liquid or waxy components to attract dust or lint. In fact, the low surface energy of dry ...

KPL Heavy vs. Original - What's the Deal??
I’m a bit envious of the lightweight one you have from Knife center exclusive in brown.
....... or buy a good knife...
Don't want to bad-mouth your product, KPL. If I am using my knife for 'any' food prep I will use a food save oil such as mineral oil.
Thanks for the instructions. The background noise was very annoying.
Are this color scales available for the Manix 2?
Hey this question is entended for the maker of this video knife lube or whatever its called but if anyone else can answer it then id appreciate that just as much so i came up on a benchmade axis folding knife and i think may be a axis spring assisted cus when i start moving blade it ebds up coming out on its own even if i let it go which i think is cool but id much rather it be fully auto axis so can i convert it to auto?? And if so how and can someone make a video of it and i have 3 coil springs from reguler push button autos one is like double the size of the other 2 but can i use one of them and is that the type of spring they use in axis autos??
when o go to the link for journey tool, it shows it is not a safe site? did it 3 times, warning????
Isn't the purpose of texture, for better grip? As when the knife or your hands or wet and or cold?
Solutions to problems nobody has
Is that lube safe food graded oil? Couldnt hear name of that model you fixed? Thx for review.

You make this look so easy! Great video!👍🏼👍🏼
I have a genuine question, probably highly ignorant but a question nonetheless. Is there a "top" or "bottom" to the ball bearing rings? Like is one side flat and the other side the bearings are protruding? I'm going to guess that the dimensions to them are even? I have a new Milwaukee Tonto blade, I believe it uses a bearing system (I think) It has a fairly fast action release. It has a protruding notch that you push down on with your finger to release the blade. I haven't used it much but it does seem like it could probably use some oil for preventative maintenance and a bit faster action.
Can barely hear your voice with that loud music in the background
Lock stick on compression lick is real! Music is annoying. Thanks
🤣
Chill out with the music. Too loud
Sold! Manix 2 is my next knife 😂. I wasn't into Spyderco until here recently, surprisingly, but the more I researched the Manix 2, the more I started to really like it.
You should give the Para Military 2 a try next, I know it looks a little goofy but when you hold it, it will all make sense.
As a machinist, hearing a random ceramic tile called "extremely flat" just hurts my brain.
I install tile and while most people think all the tile in a box is all the same I can confirm that to be absolutely false. Ceramic tile varies wildly tile to tile and to call them flat is ludicrous 😂
Hey guys, I have a 20cv manix 2 g10 red but satin steel for sale or trade ty
The Knife Doctor just uses Rem Oil.
What lube is that?
I put my CRKs in my ultasonic cleaner, then use micro Q tips, then compressed air.
As a new Knife collector and someone who just ordered some KPL, this is EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks
I like to use the 1/4 Teflon tape instead of locktite. Making future disassembly much easier. The Teflon tape also prevents screws from backing out.
Give purple loctite a try. It’s definitely the way to go over blue loctite. The only downside is that it isn’t available in stick/paste form like blue.
Fantastic knowledge well done
Do u polish both sides of the Washers or just the one sidr
For the cracks you can always use a tool and a cloth. Anything slim and hard, you can even use a butter knife. Then you can use it to push the cloth inside the lines and use the tool to rub very hard.
Can i take out the lanayad tube with out totaly diassembling it? I have the kpl lube and i aso have some new ball cage and hardware upgrade i want to put in. i have the sharp dress knife tool also.
there is absolutely no reason to remove the tube. You can easily disassemble it without removing it.
Excellent review, with easy to follow steps👍🏻
I want to ask soemething. Is it possible to polish those 2 washers by using fine water sand paper like 1000 grit or more ?
0.5 micron is equivalent to like 50,000 grit. So if you want a mirror polish you need something very fine
Great video, just picked up my first manix 2 and absolutely love it. Will definitely do this mod down the road, great to see. ❤
I use KPL all the time, but please, take off your hat.
$300 for a bit driver …. Is it going to sing to me while I fix the knife or do they come with built in Bluetooth wth? Wiha FTW imo😊
There's one problem I see people doing even in this tutorial. Why not lube both sides of each bronze washer? The washer is able to slip on the knife blade and frame both. In case you haven't noticed, the frame is sometimes the smoother side of the washer. For example, a Satin spyderco blade has grind marks that can grab the washer causing the washer to spin with the blade causing slippage at washer-frame. If you want to fine tune a knife..lube both sides of each washer. The knife will take the easiest path of slippage depending several things. Also polishing washers can't be a bad thing but would only work ideal if the opposing surface is smooth. If you notice in the video, the blade has a dlc coating that has worn appearance at the washer area. Dlc is not that smooth on a micro level. Satin blades are not smooth either in a different way. What I'm getting at, if you polish a washer, and use it against that rough blade then check it later. The blade really does a number on the washer. On satin blades you can notice after usage how the high spots of the blade grind has worn some. The blade steel is harder than the washer. It defeats the purpose to do all this work. One benefit of having blades not perfectly smooth like the polished washer would be, is those micro low spots hold lube better. I would think it be awesome if they made a blade that is mirrored smooth @ the washer contact. The scale polishing is a good idea if the scales are unsatisfactory in grip. Great video though. Lube ALL slip points and your golden.
Thank you so much for making this breakdown!
It's crazy, at the price that Spyderco sells its knives that they still need to be optimized. Russian knives, like Cheburkov, don't have these kinds of drawbacks.
Those knives need nothing, take it out of the box and put it in your pocket, this dude is anal , probably cleans everything he's about to cut lol
@@ScottSimmons68 The value for money at Spyderco is disastrous as is at Extrema Ratio.
What drawbacks? For under 200 bucks Spyderco knife will last 99% of people a lifetime, are there better knives? absolutely but nothing this dude is doing is necessary, my handle is too grippy, that's not a flaw, those Russian knives is baddass not gonna lie but so are Chris Reeves and many other handmade knives but most people don't have 500 to 1000 dollars for a work tool ya know?
@@ScottSimmons68 Lol, I bought a Cheburkov for $300 and it's the best and most beautiful knife in my collection, far ahead of all the much more expensive, ugly American folding knives that work much worse.
Ok I get it you're not a Spyderco fan, you don't have to be, good grief
Love my TRM Atom
Background music is making your audio hard to hear.
stopped watching when IPA came out. RIP everyones red scales. How to get sued
Did someone try an ultrasonic cleaner? I am curious if it would work.
I love Manix 2, I think it's Spyderco's best knife
Excellent tutorial! I'm getting ready to put some Metonboss scales on my Manix 2.
I’ve never ripped up my pocket either. I can see doing this to Cold Steel knives as they have super aggressive g10 on some models. Spyderco G10 is fine as is in my book…
Can rubbing alchohol harm plastic knife handles?
