John Robertson was world class in my opinion
How things might have been different, had Eddie McCreadie still been in charge for two more seasons. Shelito destroyed the team that Eddie had built, selling the best players.
Just sent this to CFC... I would like to ask if CFC has any plans to celebrate the life of the late John Dempsey, one of our stallwart players of the 1970’s. I ask as I am surprised that there has so far been no mention that he died recently, or a statement, on the club website. Usually, CFC is very quick to add notes and news concerning former players of the club.
great chat, RIP john dempsey, Chelsea legend
Apart from the money they earn today huddy had the best times when there was fun and not just top players but top people RIP John 🙏🙏
RIP JOHN DEMPSEY 🔵⚽️🙏🏻
So sad to hear John passed away a member of my favourite chelsea team Rip John chelsea loyal
I’ve been a Blues supporter since 1968, and for me the team around that era were top notch. My memory isn’t brilliant but i can still remember those teams of by heart. I was very upset when Hudson join Stoke, if fact I couldn’t believe it..
John was a very reliable defender I saw him play hundreds of time and he rarely made any mistakes RIP John
Much underrated player in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Loved to watch him play from the Shed. God bless John.
' I Was Very Fortunate To See John Dempsey Score A Great Header Against Everton In 1971-72 Season; Chelsea Won 4-0'.
My Mum worked with john at springwood day centre edgware for disabled youg people. One story they had a clapped out old minibus. John started a fundraiser to buy a newer one. At chelsea matthew harding heard about this and a week or so later matthaw drove a brand new minibus to springwood and presented john with the keys so sad to hear r.i.p john
Very sad day Thanks Tony
I'm Man City...and Alan and John Dempsey were in the Chelsea team which broke my heart as a 13-year-old in 1971 when they beat us in the Cup-Winners' Cup semi-final when I really thought we were going to retain the trophy. All these years later, it is sad to look back now at those games and see all the players who have left us. I no longer have the same interest in the modern game, despite City's success in the last decade, but I love listening to the stories and memories from the old days!
Likewise John . 😀
Two one nil wins in both legs with a little known forward I think called Derek smethurst scoring in each game , with ossie out injured. Dempsey a good and much underrated player and clearly a good man.
I am Chelsea and have no interest now in Chelsea despite all the success
best podcast on the net
Great Thanks Tony
Great Pod . I learned a lot tonight , Thank you 😃
This is the most underrated podcast on the tinternet
You are 100% right there !
Sad news that John Dempesy passed away.
Fabulous player and an even finer gentleman. RIP Demps xx
Whenever I saw Jim play, not matter for which club, he always gave his heart and soul in the game. He never "coasted" or hid. Fiercely competitive and wholehearted player. When you look at Man Utd in 2024, you wonder what Jim would make of the current lot. No sense of pride for playing for a club, no self respect. Good on you, Jim for being a true pro.
Its not just football thats lacking characters its life as well nowadays
“All the overseas players were Scottish!”😂 love it Alan!
It’s not Pep. It’s FIFA. They change the rules of the game. When they allowed the goalkeeper to pass the ball to the centerback in the 6 yard box, the game became slow and boring. Slow build up almost all the time.
I stopped and watched a kids game in the park the other day. It was organised, with a ref and both teams in kits. The lads were aged about 13/14. Anyway, one keeper hoofed it downfield, a lad knocked it on and another ran on to it and scored with an angled shot. I thought, ''fantastic''! The game has not gone completely.
Football has gradually become gentrified crap. All staduims are the same. All tactics and players are the same. Even the goal nets themselves have lost all semblance of any individuality.
Last nights game between Barca and Bayern was a knock off the old block. Very entertaining - took me back to fast paced brave football.
Yes sure pep has ruined football let’s get back to the kick and rush and give it some welly days!!!
Pep hasn't ruined anything, it's all the other coaches who try copy his style of football. That's why Klopp at Liverpool was such a breath of fresh air and a worthy opponent to Pep - he brought his own style of high octane football to the Premier League and given the resources he had at his disposal, he did very well.
Hoorah thank you soooo much modern football ⚽️ is bloody boring 😴 just watch some of the old Big Match episodes on TV they are so exciting
I prefer football with wingers racing down the wing and crossing into the area. I said during Pep's Barcelona's tippy tappy peak that they were great players but it was tedious and numbing after a bit. I used to get called a philistine but many fans now are fed up of this way of playing. I suppose if you support massive corruption fc it is good but I can't be arsed with it anymore tbh.
At last - someone is being honest about Pep. He is totally responsible for making football boring. First came tippy-tappy, and then playing out from the back, the worst tactic ever, yet one that everyone adopts. I do not watch games anymore. Seeing teams making 20 passes to get the ball out of their penalty area is too much. I only enjoy it when they mess up and give a goal away.
So if Pep puts his arse in the fire they all have to put their arse in the fire! Nonsense, the game was being destroyed before vPep arrived, you can't even tackle in modern football, no spicy chants allowed, clowns taking the knee for American criminals, rainbows all over the shop, Spurs fans can't sing 'yid army' Ffin' VAR! and on and on, but hey, lets blame the Catalan lad on everything! He didn't rip the soul from your game.
the point is to win, you retard. He wins. It is boring to you because he has made your trash club irrelevant
Spot on...and I'm Man City! They bore me stiff most of the time.
It was the abramovic effect which led to the shite we see today. And I say that even though that was the best time of my life being a chelsea fan, amazing period, but ultimately changed the sport because other foreign money men saw how quickly they could achieve success
Alan, do yo think that Colin Bell should have been an England regular from 1967-1968, I'm not a Man City fan myself, but in my opinion Sir Alf should have worked hard to get Grieves back into the team on a regular basis, so that by the 1970 world cup with Bell and Grieves as regulars in the team we might have done far better than a quarter final. How could he leave those two players out?
Alan could only get two caps because Alf Ramsay banned him for two years and Revie wouldn’t pick him because Revie was Revie
Men's sport finances women's sport generally.
By Hudson's logic, Paisley would be the greatest
Did Alan not rate Shilton IMHO he was never in the class of Clemence,,,
He gives his verdict on Shilton’s impact at Stoke in this podcast
@@thealanhudsonpodcast9097 He liked Farmer I heard he say,,, I would like him to elaborate on his thoughts Thanks Tony
Slippy G ,,, back pass Wc Brazil,,, cost England ,,, Back Euros against France,,,, Slippy G made big mistakes ,,, He never did it
Gae
Having the ball is more important than creating chances.
Great show Tony,,,, Clough had the right idea Let the players off until Thursday No training . The body needs to rest and heal. Too much training. The mind goes before the body,,,,, Clough was the man.. I believe City have bought all the top Lawyers in the world to stop any prosecutions
Thank you gents . Loved that , Lets have Denis on again please .
Villa were a great team and Mortimer a good midfielder
So true the game is technical farce, ruined very predictable same old set peices and play
Lee Carsley should focus on winning games and playing with a winning mentality
I agree with Alan's view on the national anthem. I'm more concerned with his approach to winning games.
England play like robots
I agree absolutely that Guadiola has ruined the game
A good debate
Dennis Mortimer was class and Alan super classy
I wonder if Alan remembers back in the day when Chelsea used to train at the Crystal Palace Sport ground. There was a 5 a side sand pitch. It was on a Wednesday my school used the swimming pool and we always used to sneak out to watch them train. I met Dave Sexton, etc.
