#43 Christos Yannaras - The Dormition of the Theotokos as personal experience | 2023

REVIEW of the Dr. Gavin Ortlund and Fr. Stephen De Young Discussion
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.9 месяцев назад
What about the Seventh Ecumenical Council? What did the Fathers actually say? To find out what the Fathers decreed, we read the Definition (Horus) in its entirety. Amongst other things, we play a part of a lecture by Gary Habermas and how he connects the Shroud of Turin to icons of Christ. The quote from Deacon Epiphanios is from "The Acts of the Second Council of Nicaea (787)" page 522.

In a resent debate, Alex O'conner (@CosmicSkeptic) asked Ben Shapiro (@BenShapiro) about slavery. He and other have often made the point that the God of the Bible actually accepts slavery. A glimpse of Holy and Great Wednesday
Schisms originate from heresy. Heresies threaten salvation. If you’re part of a schismatic group, your salvation is threatened. If you’re a heretic, your salvation is forfeit. Drinking water with fluoride is bad for you. And yet people still do; some, even unaware of doing so or of the harm it causes. So is with heresy. Some people believe heresy unknowingly. Their ignorance does not shield them from the harm that heresy causes.
Is Fr. Patrick dyslectic? I find it hard to understand what is it saying :(
Tack för ett helt underbart program. Edward Blom är en sån underbar människa.
Paraphrased one of the best lines - "Orthodox Christians don't want a political program. They want Caesar to hear the Gospel and to change the Empire that way." My minor addition - It is why Jesus was tried before Herod and why Paul and Peter went to Rome to die.
So many people are looking for a church that has a foundation. Show me these protestant churches and I would say even the Catholic Church are flawed. Some badly so. These people in good faith want to fix what’s going on. But the thing is the orthodox church has everything in order and you really don’t need to do any fixing. Maintenance is always required no matter where you are, but the orthodox church does not need to do an overhaul or anything like that
I was born and raised Catholic. I began learning more about current- day Protestantism and Orthodoxy as an adult. I definitely do not believe that Sola Scriptura is the correct way to practice Christianity, so Protestantism isn't something I'm entertaining. Something I find difficult about Orthodoxy is that I live in the deep South so there aren't many Orthodox churches to go to. My husband and I have been attending the TLM Catholic mass and a reverent N.O. I feel as thought it's impossible to figure out the correct way to practice Christianity! The Catholic Church appears to have developed so many doctrines and legalistic views on things that I don't think that Jesus or the early church would have recognized. I'm so confused because on one hand, it's comforting "knowing" that if I receive the sacraments, don't have a mortal sin on my soul, receive Communion, go to confession, and don't die with a mortal sin on my soul (God willing, get last Rites), that I can reasonably die with a peaceful heart knowing I'll most likely go to Purgatory and then Heaven. As far as Orthodoxy goes, my understanding is that those "guarantees" don't exist. Is the Orthodox belief that if you try your hardest to lead a good, Christian life that you can have a reasonable chance at heaven? What if someone doesn't have access to an Orthodox church? Would you be able to be baptized in the Orthodox church if you're only able to attend a few times a year due to distance? Do the Orthodox believe that Catholics are Christians and can go to Heaven? I want to practice my Christian faith the correct way and my understanding is that the Catholic church seems to be the only one that says there isn't salvation outside of it. This causes me so much anxiety because I don't want to lead my family to Hell.
I traveled the same path and was led to Holy Orthodoxy over 12 years ago. Glory to God for all things!
Thank you for these videos! I'm Catholic and have been wanting to learn more about Orthodoxy and icons :)
Thank you!
Did the priest ever quote the bible even once in the debate?
What a great story, praise the Lord for Klaus Kenneth🙏
Thanks
if a church becomes salvation not our faith in Jesus Christ then something gets extemly wrong

Man skipped question like a pro politician. But 1:12:00 question and answer is the easiest to spot. Mans on a maths quiz show. Not seeking betterment in the Lord. Forgive us Father ☦️❤️
Man literally says he doesn’t know the Holy Spirit. We have to use scripture but that’s what orthodox do too. Mans an atheist in disguise
I don't see 1 Corinthians 14 talking about what he's referencing: "cut to the quick" in fact, I see a lot about speaking in tongues and prophesy. Please help me understand what scripture your'e referencing.
When non believers say the Bible contradicts. But then when you say ‘well ok where?’ To then go forth and find out it was a terrible translation, misunderstanding of meaning or total disregard for context. Jesus is King ☦️
Here’s some quick maths for you. After the problem raised was ‘ but they all Claim succession’ so quick maths if they all claim succession which one is true to the claim. Firstly remove all that have changed scripture. Secondly remove all that welcome a different gospel than the one taught by our only saviour Jesus Christ. Then which one has made the straight path for the kingdom and is least with the worldly spirit. After this you should soon have your answer or a lot of stumbling blocks which are probably personally between you and God to figure out ☦️❤️🕊️🫡
Lord have mercy. Notice how ones questions begin with the foundation of the faith and scripture, and whether in truth they are inline. On the opposition you have, like many claiming to be Christians, ones who instead focus on the original teachings instead desire to focus on a defence genre that I can only define as victimisation. Seeing the Bible as being up for debate and only certain scriptures have authority rather than having sense on the whole. Now my only analysis is that non orthodox believe like how after the rooster three times crowed, and Christ was denied, base on this that many Christians believe that scripture is not full and instead needs decoding and/or is up for debate and/ or interpretation. Or over exaggerated verses that claim we are saved by Grace and then neglect or reduce verses such as faith without works is dead which causes a kind of blindness to the whole of scripture and allows more focus on ones feelings and confirms not living as a true Orthodox Christian. But then it’s in plain sight. Yes one must fully believe in the early fathers and scripture as a whole. Or not. And claim that instead they have a spirit which tells them otherwise. Which neglects scripture. Other than maybe the verses that can be made sense of with certain spirit.
I am so grateful to Luther for opening our eyes from Catholic church and Orthodoxy. If I had to chose from Catholic or Greek Orthodox, I would choose Greek Orthodox but I am a protestant but definitely not a Calvanist! Love the worship in protestant church. Did you know that icon is synonymous to idol? Pastor Francis chan studied orthodoxy but he really did not become one.ibdont need icons or incense or specific chants in order to have true meaningful worship. If Orthodox wants this that's fine for them but it's not needed or required at all.
We work hard, we have love for people, and we don't mention the name of G-d as we rely on intercessions. :)
I called Orthodox Christian churches to get answers and they judged me cuz i wasnt a part of them
Cool story!
all the bells and whistles of costume heavy and ritual heavy religions always scared me i love the plainess and simplicity and urgency of the original new testament church
the orthodox church was judged by GOD in the islamic invasions...you have zero authority and your delusional byzantine theology is NONSENSE
Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Church leaders are going to have to come to terms with each other’s real and valid apostolicity. Postreformation movements have no legitimacy.

My dad came with me for 6 month's, and even after all that, he still didn't get it, and stopped coming. He simply doesn't want to shift into a mode of surrendering, suffering, and devoting his entire self from his more comforting belief of easy-Christian "all is well" Protestant-style pattern. Please pray for him! Western Protestant-type culture has ruined so many soul's salvation!!! 😢
Evangelical raised baptist here thankyou for making these videos. I have been interested in orthodoxy. I struggle with a lot of these topics but i have an open mind. Id like to read the fathers. Where can I can I find it? Please pray for me as i research orthodoxy. I found Father spyridon baileys videos and it led me to dig deeper.
Is there any early church father evidence for the Greek Patriarchate, or did the Greek Patriarch appear as specifically a Greek Orthodox Patriarch after the mid 1400's? If the Greek Orthodox ecclesiology is founded upon the early church which had seven ecumenical councils, ecumenical councils are an accepted form of church governance. Why has the Greek Orthodox never had an ecumenical council since the split with Rome after about 1450AD if the early church is the predominant measure of the true gospel including the Spirit's willed church governance? If JEsus is the rock in Matt 16 what is the theological import of the keys given to Peter to bind and loose relative to Isaiah 22 and later church fathers acceptance of the keys founding the Papacy? If the church fathers accepted the Davidic keys indicating Papal authority, what alternative does the Greek Orthodox have with the church fathers' understanding of the Davidic keys of Matt 16? If church governance over the Greek Orthodox church is exclusively given to the triumphant Jesus, how does the Orthodox church know when the authority of the keys is exercised? Is Jesus' authority over the Greek Orthodox church exercised through the Greek Patriarch? If so, what basis is there in Matt 16 and the church fathers? If the the Greek Orthodox Patriarch does exercise the power of the keys, how is Jesus giving Peter the keys in Matt 16 relevant to a Greek Patriarchate developed after the mid 1400's? If the the Greek Orthodox Patriarch does not exercise the power of the keys, what is the significance of Jesus giving Peter the keys in Matt 16? If the the Greek Orthodox Patriarch does exercise the power of the keys, how is the Patriarch exercising the keys over only the Greek Orthodox church possible when the biblical church has the keys given to rule over the church with the four mars of one, holy, Catholic and apostolic church without reference to any restricted geography such as the Greek Orthodox church which is predominantly dominated by a native Greek population? The early church fathers taught Mary was the second Eve compatible with the Immaculate Conception. Why does the Greek Orthodox reject the Immaculate Conception when there is early church evidence for Mary's unique grace?
Brilliant defense of the Papacy
That’s another thing I never really understood about orthodoxy ..especially Greek. They always question you in the Greek churches asking “why are you here if you’re not Greek”?? . It’s very rude and offputting. And let’s say they do mean well about it (as alludes to) that is still concerning in that how do you not know your faith is the truth ?? So are you there just because culturally it’s your religion??? Maybe this explains many things.

What do Orthodox believe if Jesus had biological brothers and sisters thru Mary and Joseph’s Union?
So Catholics say they are the one church, now orthodox say they are the true church. I think it's better to say there is one church, Jesus body, we just have different ways to minister
I have had the exact experience as an inquirer. Asked what are we supposed to do with Moses having to beg God not to wipe out the Israelites after he came down from Mt Sinai😮 was not given any explanation. Thank you Dr De Young for taking on this subject. I feel it is very important due to this being a common argument against the Christian faith.
This is terrible to watch. And the video problems didn't help. Dr. F is full of shite.
I want to hear that SG on 11! This faulty Egyptian history is sus, pick up that ax and JAM!
Dr. Ortlund is not a fair or reasonable individual, only prudence prevents me from calling him a liar, as he argues points he must know are incorrect unless he’s a Dr. of Dentistry. The Filioque was not commonly expressed let alone tolerated in the Body of Christ for Hundreds of years and then conveniently made heresy at some later junction to unnecessary fragment the Church. The opposite is in fact the case. The new found king of the Papal State Pope Leo III and crowner of the New Holy Roman Emperor, Charlamagne twisted the theology of others to create new territory to justify claims of Primacy and thereby making the Bishop of Rome distinct and greater than all the other Bishops because how could he be King, in every since of the word, over the Papal State and have the Authority to declare Charlamagne the Holy Roman Emperor and begin to inflict his reforms on the Church if he were just another Bishop. So temporal possession through the Son became Devine procession from the son and Peter, Rock Keys became rational for Primacy and infallibility, meanings neither had before until it became convenient for the application of secular power. Even Pope Leo III wouldn’t touch changing the Nicene Creed though and demonstrated he knew the shaky ground he stood on with his claims and actions, but when his successors did that became the ultimate schismatic act that cemented the Papal sin addressed at the eight Oecumenical Concil of Constantine in 879-880 and begun by Leo III less than a hundred years prior a blink of an eye in Church years. The Protestant Reformers followed the model and that is precisely why Protestantism had a different flavor to the liking of the regional secular authorities between Wittenberg and Geneva for instance.
I have been looking into the Orthodox faith, from Protestant in the past, and I learned the view I was taught and believed was wrong. Through biblical archeology, I was seeing early churches with iconography on the walls. I do not have the ego to push through when I see I'm wrong, so I accepted the truth. I do however have issues with calling Priests 'Father' because of Matthew 23:9, kissing pictures because that seems like worship to me, and praying to anyone but GOD. Maybe I'll have these issues explained to me, or I'll find it on my own.
Why protestant is bad? Aren't we part of Christ church as born again?
@@partlysimpson5154 Well, you can watch debates, like Jay Dyer vs Protestant and you'll see the problems.
@@Curveball i mean i talk jesus daily, i feel presence of holy spirit etc. Iam sure iam on right path

@@Curveball JESUS IS THE WAY, TRUTH AND THE LIFE! I rebuke you satan! You dont think with human reasoning, you get to know Jesus. Church DONT SAVE. Wow, this is so good. So powerful. It answered many questions that I had. Studying theoretically many religions is not as powerful as experimenting them like Mr. Klaus Kenneth did. Thanks to this interview I have learned that the word "Love" does not exist in the Quran/ Koran. I have learned that in Buddhism by emptying one's head of thoughts to reach 'Nirvana' what actually happens is creating an empty space open to demons. Indeed, we have to fill our thoughts and hearts with Love, with Jesus Christ, to leave no space for other entities. I wish this video had Romanian subtitles, so that I could share it with my co-nationals. So many of us still believe that yoga and meditation are harmless. Thank you.
