Casio LDF-50. If looks could kill.
The Casio LDF-50 is out of production, but it's a really interesting model - how does it stack up against the F91w?
Shoutout to SmolWatch, who had a great review and similar thesis.

Casio G-Shock GMD-S5600 Light Comparison to Casio F-91W

A brief demonstration of the illumination of the G-Shock GMD-S5600 as requested by previous commenters. 1) I don't have a great camera, and 2) it's really hard to film watch illumination to illustrate what it looks like with the human eye. Throughout the video, what you see is more intense (brighter) than what you see in real life.
Casio G-Shock GMD-S5600. Is the smaller G-Shock an F-91 Killer?
Просмотров 16 тыс.Год назад
New for 2023, the GMD-S5600 is a couple mm smaller than the classic square DW-5600 (45.7 × 40.5 × 11.9 (L× W× H) vs 48.9 × 42.8 × 13.4 mm). Does this mean it's a better everyday watch for those with smaller wrists?
did u noticed that unlike the orignal black f91w, the backlight in the silver one lights even outside the frame.( a little light just on the left of the orignal backlight.) Is it some kind of manufacturing defect?I have encountered the same on my silver one.
Really miss your reviews, I refer back to them at lot . Please consider coming back to guide us Casio fans on the hunt for the perfect watch 👍👍👍👍👍
I worked in a restaurants and this watch is just the best watch for a cook. I used the timer button million times. Had this watch for more than 5 years of work abuse. The strap broke unfortunately.
I can't Thumbs-Up more! I worked back of the house, and messed up so many times trying to multitask - pasta comes out in 5; chix needs another 3 min on the grill, and then forget for just a few seconds too long trying to fit in another prep. Sorry the strap broke!
Thank you for the Video! I have a W-59 which is one of my Favourite Watches. But It developed a loose Button. I have Plenty of Casios...but never had a loose button. Did you ever have something like that, and if yes, did you fix it?
Dario, love your stuff, thanks for watching. No, never had any buttons break (on any of my 50 casios). It's funny that it happened on the W-59; the buttons looks un po' robusto compared to F-91w. It's hard to get the W-59 in the states, so I don't know.
@manifoldz thanks for the Response. Is saw Buttons replacement on aly Express, maybe I try it out! Yeah the W-59 is a robust one. I mean I could just buy a new one... But that's nonsense.
On my wrist it doesn't look chunky (the 800)I only have three holes on the strap to spare so on my big wrist its in the right ratio for a digital watch so the 800 is more for the larger wrists
I like the F-108 WH, [3224]. It's a great size, low cost, and fits my 6.5 inch wrist perfectly. I trimmed the strap to fit better. The F-108 gets my vote.
Where are you dude?, also review the w735h
Thanks for watching. Boston. I was thinking about the w375. I recognize its a great watch, but way too big for my style. I would get it ONLY to have a vibration alarm in the collection.
@manifoldz of topic the AE-1600H-1AV with the MWD-110H bezel would have been amazing
В w800 можно активировать таймер обратного отсчёта с автоповтором ! И ещё плюс четыре многофункциональных будильника ! Даже не у всех Джи шоков имеется такое ) По этому 800тый - лучшие бюджетные часы 👍
It is a very impressive upgrade/hack.
I have big wrists and hands, enough so that the F-91 was never an option for me. Somehow I didn't know about the w-217 until this year. Picked it up, and it's PERFECT for me. The way the light illuminates the numerals seems pretty unique among casios. The size is great, it's comfortable. The light's an improvement over the 91 while still having a retro feel. Better water resist, and the distribution of fine visual elements over a larger area makes the w217 look sleeker and more grown up. To me, this rivals the gshock 6510 in being the perfect Casio watch. It's got everything you need, upgraded at that, and nothing you don't.
I'm always in-between strap holes 😂
Przecież to jest damski zegarek 😂
Great video. Thanks!
I use a stopwatch instead of a timer because its instant no mater the situation.
I agree with you, i jumped into watches and realize in the automatic world they are all the same, and came down to earth and back to casios. I do like the 5610u and most under 50$ ones
Sounds like the RUclips author of this video should go for the w86 or f105w if wanting an F91w replacement that is negligibly larger. The 217h is awesome for people with large wrists. An F91w is puny on my wrist, and I'm on the second to last hole on the strap, but the 217h looks and feels normal, being nearer to the 40mm size instead of 35mm. As for height, the 217h is only 1.5mm taller. It is the thinnest modern Casio; only the F91w and the f105w are thinner if you aren't looking for a metal band watch; A700 is thinner than even the F91w but no resin/resin variant.
I can't find these for sale, did they discontinue these?
Yes. However, there are plenty of used models on ebay; and a New Old Stock version will pop up often. Get one before they get even rarer.
thank you so much, this is exactly what i wanted to know about this model, waiting for it to arrive in the mail :)
You'll love it. What color?
@ didn’t want red, also i find that the black with gray face is a bit y2k, so i went with all black :) Got it used for 25$ from ebay and i hope it’s in good condition.. Really interesting that i can’t find any other model that has the single-press-timer from casio
great watches.
W-202 (positive display version) is main F-91 killer , imho. Also, as a smaller and much lighter, but still waterproof enough for snorkeling, it is even better as "field watch" than most Gs :)
You are SOOO correct, or at least as much as I can agree without owning one myself. Unfortunately, the W-202 is not sold in the USA - so I cant verify until I spring for the import fees. Thanks for the comment.
@@manifoldz I'm swiming with it in a pool 3 times per week for 2 years now, no issues at all :)
Huge 217 fan here. I love the larger display and it’s so crisp. And it’s maintained that classic look. Thanks!
They certainly kept the look, and if its your style, rock on!
Very nice! just ordered on off of Amazon, Can't wait for the delivery, so glad my first wrist watch is this beauty!
You'll love it - wear it in good health!
you bought three so thats why😀
Ha! Touchez. But how many weirdos are there like me that are buying all of them? Certainly not enough to keep Casio in business only for that.
The W96H has good real estate.
The w96 does make very good use of the space, but the F201 kicks its butt.
its inferior to F201, lacks functions
@@rm9sbg93zxjzg IMO Looks better than F201
@@CasioVintage_1 i rather have function over form... timer is the most i use in most situations
@@rm9sbg93zxjzg I hear you. I took negative display F201 module and put it inside my W96h. Now I have best of both worlds.
Love everything about W800H
It's a great choice, but the current year taking up screen real estate will always bug me.
Hey , what’s the name of that neon blue watch
It's the Blue F-91: F-91WC-2A Its my beach watch.
Thanks , sadly I couldn’t find it in my region , So I got the A158
It's great that Casio makes so many sizes and styles! I have all three of these watches and the the F91-W is my least favorite. The horrible backlight is a deal-breaker for me. My wrist is 7 inches and in my opinion the F91 is too small unless I'm wearing long sleeves and it's hiding under the cuff. The W217H is ok, but because it is so thin, it looks too large for what it is. It almost looks like an F91-W that's taking itself too seriously. But at least it has a decent backlight, which is very important to me. My favorite is the W800H. I use it every day, but seldom wear it. It has a semi-permanent home on my bathroom counter, where it tells me the time when I get up in the middle of the night, the day of the week for taking morning and evening meds, and the date and 24 hour time for my medical log (when I had a serious illness). But that's not what I bought it for. When I got The W800H, it was a replacement for a 5600 G-Shock that had buttons that were just too darn hard to press. I wanted a digital field watch that was rugged, accurate, had 100 meters of water resistance, 10 years of battery life, a decent backlight, and looked like a mini G-Shock. The W800H perfectly filled that niche. I don't need that capability every day and I agree that the W800 isn't the prettiest watch in my collection, but when I'm going camping or traveling overseas, that watch is always in my kit, even if I'm wearing a prettier 3-hander on my wrist most of the time. If something happens to the pretty watch or I'm going to be in the water or I need to wear a watch a night, the W800H is the one I reach for. Oh, as you can see from my comment below, I trimmed the strap to the perfect length. If you decided to do this to yours, take a few practice cuts, to get the hang of it, before you make your final cut.
Great takes. Thanks for watching.
LOL… the W800 is awesome … if you like the F91 but want one like it just better … try the W86 or the F105 !!! Due to my travels, work and lifestyle: the dual time is very nice feature as is the “yearly” alarm in the W800 … so in the end the features are just dependent on each person !!!
I have both - and am doing a review on the W86. It really is great. I dont think the F105's light is enough of an improvement to justify a whole new model. Thanks for watching.
pretty sure its no longer made, lucky enough to get a new one in early 2024 on ebay before used banged up ones go for 30 plus bucks. with lots of smart watches coming out I purchased a circular screen protector that covers most of the saphier with a bit jutting out where the light button is. looks weird if you want to show it off but that damn countdown timer is legendary for work related things.
It's flipping amazing!
The 217H and W00H are awesome for medium to larger wrists. While the F91W may be the classic, it looks too small or even like a woman's watch for larger than skinny wrists. BTW on the dual time, tell those sentiments to Gen. Schwarzkopf 🤣
Strangely enough my silver one has way better illuminator that the basic black f91. Its almost an illuminator. I swapped the strap on it with a metallic one. The backlight is almost as bright as the a700 w.
I find it more refined than the f91....It's a detail but I love the reminder of the striations between the top of the case and the bracelet :) I don't know if I'm making myself clear, I'm French and my English isn't very good.. Anyway, very nice little watch and thanks for showing it :)
The F84 is more elegant, and even more 80s than the F91.
for me, the W59 is the best of all proposals. It retains the nostalgia factor of the f91, with which the w59 shares dimensions and style, BUT the w59 is 50m waterproof. I very often wear my w59 and my a168w but I also like to wear w217 as well as my other casio models.. Thanks for you video :)
Agree completely. I don't have the w59 yet, but I guess I will personally weigh horological importance of the f91 just a bit higher than you; but the w59 is better in every logical sense. I just bought the W86 and really like it. It has the 50M water resistance, the nostalgia, a better backlight, and is just a hair larger without being too bulky.
Getting the white one soon!! Thanks for the demonstrate on the wrist!!!
Love this watch, when I was a kid I actually had a smaller, blue, kids version, lost one and think I lost the other on holiday ,never looked those up but I may do, does anyone know the reference, I am not sure if it had the 'Countdown Alarm' as Casio reference it in the instructions
I think I have one and am doing the review. Stay Tuned.
It looks like a watch for kids.
I show a picture of Bill Gates wearing it; so I'd say its objectively a watch for Billionaires. Thanks for watching.
there is no replacement for the f91 :))) good luck with your youtube channel!
Yes, - way too funky, but happy to have it in my collection. Thanks for watching:)
you mean to say you do not cut watch bands to size, and therefore just leave the fate of your fashion to the length of strap from the factory?
Ha. Yep. Keep 'em stock.
This review is really helpful as it features multiple Casio watches of different sizes for comparison with the GMD-S5600. I believe that, like me, others who do not have the convenience of trying on multiple watches should use this video as a reference.
Thanks dude... glad to help.
Bom dia! Muito bom seus vídeos sobre relógios, parabéns! Estou em dúvida entre o casio 217 e f91. Talvez compre o 217. Saudações do Brasil.
Obrigado! e desculpe pela resposta tardia! Você comprou o 217 ou o F-91. Se você tem pulsos grandes ou olhos ruins, compre o 217. Se você gosta de história, compre o F91.
Good review but be careful with making ridiculous assumptions based on your life…. A) yes, people do use the split function on stopwatches. B) dual time is very useful for frequent world travelers and used quite often. Example, military reports are written in Zulu time and if you are bouncing around the world, it’s not always easy to know, let alone remember, what your time difference is. Add to that, some countries use time zones with 30 min increment differences thus adding to the confusion. So, dual time is extremely useful.
Thank you for watching. We will have to agree to to disagree. I'm not talking about hypotheticals - you can invent a fictional person who might use those functions, but anyone that uses splits is going to get a 60 lap watch, and because of DST, the Zulu offset isn't correct for a couple weeks of the year, you have to check it anyhow.
@@manifoldz these are not fictional examples. These functions are used by people everyday the world over. The DST change happens twice a year and is an easy fix. That argument was just silly. And when one presents real-world examples from experience and you refuse to listen, that speaks of your unwillingness to learn. Again, world time and split functions are very useful.
i agree on that there might be people who actually use dual time and split timer. i liken this to the case of the divers watch, which is unfortunate because watch vloggers reviewing divers watch are not divers. example is jodie of just 1 more watch, who does not even know how to swim. nut n fancy does scuba dive so for me he is a credible commentator of dive watches. to finalize and conclude your point, can you suggest me a youtube reviewer who uses dual time and split time in his ligestyle, to prove that such a person is not hypothetical?
@@beberforumer9715 Fredrick loves watches…. Always talks about traveling and enjoying a gmt function or world clock complication. To be honest, I could care less if RUclips reviewers use these functions, I just know that real people in the real world DO use them.
Look, with all due respect, I also a "modest colecttor (16)of G-SHOCKS", ... also for international, or, for that matter, pilots, truckers, crossing several time zones..., dual time is definitely important... not to mention 24hr./time format at a glance... (to me, VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE...! Thank you for your comments. @@beberforumer9715
Have you tried a W-94H? It’s very small and has a load of features.
I agree, and some of them are pretty unique like auto light, so it's the watch that I wear outside when I know I'll need the time, but don't want to fidget with buttons. I hope to review one day, it does have a couple downsides.
The W96 is superior in every way to the F91 but im still wearing the F91.
What vacuum cleaner is that. I think it's a Vax...
have them both, use them when I want something more discrete than my g shock
The G-Shock GW5000U has the same feature that brings back to main screen if kept pushed. Great feature indeed. Loved the video.
Whoa! These are cool! I wonder how come I never heard about them! These will make for perfect gifts (and self-given gifts)! Grazie per questo video!!!
Thanks. I haven't been nice enough to let my daughters wear them yet, but they've been eyeing them.
@@manifoldz my daughter is just the person I was thinking about…
I thought it was a new model 8)
Sorry to burst your bubble :)
Yeey! A new Manifold vid! Honestly the aesthetics on this one is definitely not my cup of tee. Like you said: too flashy. BUT. If I had too choose one at gunpoint I'd take the yellow one. Go big or go home, I guess! BTW. Have you tried the LF-20W by any chance? It's currently my daily driver and I'm pretty happy with it. It may not beat the W96H feature-wise, sure, but they're decent and the looks are to die for :D Cheers!
Thanks so much Dude! I concur, the yellow is my second favorite (after black), but I don't think it was released in the US, so hard to find now. I was really excited about the LF20 when it came out, and I'll pick one up (hopefully in maroon - also not available in the US). My main criticism about it is the poor use of screen real estate - it has to cram in all the meaningless dials, so the time and date need to be tiny.
Your back !!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂
Great call out for smolwatch, he is hilarious…. Love the style of his videos
Thanks for the encouragement! Plenty left to review.. I'll get it done (slowly but surely).
Is this channel still active? Really missing your point of view on the Casio catalog. What do you think of the new MQ24-5B?
