    I see some people outraged in the comments, that Oceanus or other JDMs are being compared to Rolex or other Swiss Made watches...and would like to give my 2 cents on the matter: Rolex was the top dog once, and thus built up a reputation. Building notoriety is an entirely different talent. Limiting the production and not satisfying demand was on purpous and strategic, just like most companies launch limited models now and then, and make a fortune out of it. Since those limited models sold so well, it would at first glance seem logical to add them to the main collection longterm but it doesnt really work that way. If its not limited, it doesnt sell so well and so expensive, because people pay more for something that makes them unique, for something that they know, not many others will be able to posess. Rolex really pushed this concept to its limits and they limited their whole production line, instead of just bringing out limited edition models now and then. That is the main reason they are so sought after, expensive, why you get put on waiting lists and you can consider yourself lucky if a dealer agrees to sell you a piece. The fact that scalpers sell them aftermarket at 5 times the price, only helps Rolex get even more notoriety and allows them to overinflate prices since they clearly see that people are willing to pay that much. It has nothing to do with quality. Its all about marketing, reputation and notoriety. They are not experts in horology as much as in business psychology. Now what are rolex doing with the all this notoriety and reputation? They have been using it for dacades to just rest on their laurels and say: we dont need to innovate anymore. We are fine with using decades old technology, because there are plenty people that would pay a sack of money for a classical collection car like you see in a museum but are not interested in a Tesla. Does this make the classical car better? Yes it has a certain charm for nostalgics, and thats just what mechanical movements are: nostalgia. Some stare through the case back at the mechanism moving and consider it art. Some people romanticise the history. Why else would people prefer a less accurate movement, that because of all the moving parts is more expensive to produce and to mentain/service? Some mechanical swiss watches got notoriety because of some actor wore them. This is somtimes raised to rediculous levels: of course Omega is quality if Bond wears it. Doesnt matter that the Aquaterra an astronaut was wearing on a moon mission broke...but if agent 007 wears it, its proof of quality. This trend/bubble will burst at some point, as enough people realise, that quarz radio controlled solars made from metals that weigh half as much and are more durable....are in the end just more practical. Now since whatches are often not only tools but also jewelery, the asians have to step up their game with using precious metals and stones or ceramic bezels in more and more models. Zaratsu polishing and coating and polishing titanium so that it sparkels like steel instead of looking gray and matte is allready a step in the right direction. But as is took 2 centuries for mechanical wristwatches to evolve and devellop to this point, and Rolex has been at it for about 1 century, it may take some time for the asians to sway the consumers on the side of high tech. There will of course always be people that prefer to visit a medieval rustical town or romantic architecture like Paris or Rome instead of skyscrapers and robots in Tokyo. But a watch is also a tool and practicality, accuracy and efficiency will in time gain more and more ground over history, character and nostalgia. Yes, Rolex could use titanium and quarz. Why dont they? Because they just lack the tech and knowledge to implement it as good as the japaneese. Innovation requires time and money and for the swiss whatchmakers, the risk of not being able to compete and the cost required to devellop the tech ist just not worth it since they have an allready established fanbase with deep pockets. But just as with generational change in people, jeans and t-shirts have won over "classy" tuxidos with top hats and a cane, so will practical high tech in the end win the battle. Hell, if they didnt invent foldable phones to fit in smaller pockets, I would have eventually given up on classical watches in favour of a smartwatch. I just cant justify anymore resetting the time and date on my mechanical watch just as often as you have to charge a smartwatch (every Monday since I dont wear it over the weekend and the power reserve gets depleted). Sorry for all the "swiss made" fanboys out there, but the price has nothing to do with quality. Forgetting all the notoriety and reputation I was rambling about earlier, just in general, everything in Switzerland is pricey and the price is not proportional with quality or usefullness but rather with the wages that the swiss watch manufacturers have to be payed and the general high cost of living there. And generally, everything manufactured in the western world is a lot more expensive then asian products. And you may say that its not just the production costs but also better QC but that is also not the case when it comes to watches. While QC may be a problem in countries like China, it cannot be said for Japan.

    I just received this exact model. Most current watch brands issue sunburst dials that are a bit lackluster. This one does not disappoint. The Matisse blue really changes depending on the lighting it is in. This really does rival Grand Seiko on many levels. I'm planning to get several different bands for this so I can wear it in the fall on something other than the bracelet. I have one regret...it is waiting so long to get a Chronomaster. It's much more stunning in person.

    All of this "rating" idiocy gives the expensive luxury makers an excuse to NOT do sufficient water-proofing. Casio's 10 to 100 dollar per watch water chart looks way different, and allows for a lot more, than all these umpty-thousand dollar per watch Swiss rip-off artists! The "dynamic" pressure, that is added, when you swing your arm back and forth for paddling is far less than one extra ATM or bar or 10meters. Swinging your arm back and forth at 5 m/s, which is 18 Km/h , 11 mph, or 10 Knots, generates 1/10th of an extra Atmosphere, and that is more than twice of what a well trained swimmer can do, when they do a world record speed max of 5 mph! Swimming with a 30meter watch should be just fine, as long as you do not jump-dive into the water! Seiko-5 has been famous as a sports and casual swimming watch for generations, and they were until recently rated for only 30 meters! I guess I need to stick to Seiko and Casio????

    *An absolutely beautiful Casio Oceanus. I’d love for this model to be my 1st Oceanus except that it doesn’t have a Stop Watch Mode or Countdown Timer Mode. But oh man is the bracelet gorgeous!*

  • @tarheelred28390
    @tarheelred28390 3 месяца назад

    *Correction sir! After you set the date and the month, the YEAR setting follows.* *•**11:33**-**11:44**: Hour hand on the 1 is for Teen (one Ten); minute hand on the 9. Hence the year the timepiece is set to is 2019. Hour hand on the 2 is for 20; minute hand at 12 o’clock is for 0. Hence the year is 2020. If the Hour hand was on 3 and the minute hand on 7, the year would read as 2037. Simply put, the hours hand is read in tens; the minutes hand you read as ones.* *Complicated? Yes. But not impossible to comprehend. The calendar year goes from 2000 to 2099.*

    • @tarheelred28390
      @tarheelred28390 3 месяца назад

      *The month setting is similar to the year setting with this difference: Beginning with the 1 hour index, each month of the year corresponds to the hour number index. January is the 1 hour index. The 3 hour mark is for March. June is the 6 hour mark. Finally, 12 o’clock while in the month setting is for December.* 😊 *Just remember that in these analog Casios where you have day, date, month, and year functions, you set the month before setting the year.*

  • @tarheelred28390
    @tarheelred28390 3 месяца назад

    *I prefer digital watches because they “tell” me the exact time. I set all of my digital Casios in the 24 hour format. There’s no brain computations needed, except for when I want to know the precise time, i.e. the seconds count. Then I gander at the seconds to see how long ‘till the next minute. The only downside to digital watches are the viewing angles. Depending on your dial time can be difficult to be had at times.* *On my analog ⏰ timepieces, rather than being “told” the time, I have to **_read_** the time to know it. And God help me if the timepiece doesn’t have minute indexes (all 60)! I have to gander rather than glance at the minute hand **_after_** reading the hour hand. It’s almost now to where I have to read the analog time twice because I try to figure in where the seconds hand is on the dial. That’s a lot of work to read the time as opposed to having been “told” the time by my digital timepieces. I sometimes wonder if I’m the only one who struggles thusly.* *Lastly, most analog minute hands don’t correspond to the seconds hand. Your minute hand on your timepiece shouldn’t be proximate or on the next minute, 30 seconds or so into that current minute. To most that doesn’t matter nor is it a moot point. But many of my Casios, G-Shocks, and Pro Treks have a Tough Movement feature which allows for precise synchronicity of all hands once an hour. Combining that with the Wave Ceptor feature and for those who like it, Bluetooth connectivity, keeps time precise, especially twice a year for DST and EST adjustments.*
