Great video, I own a lot of Seiko dive watches and I have never had any issues at all with them except for one or two that have slight alignment issues. I recently purchased a Tissot seastar (Swiss made divers watch) initially the bezel action was fantastic but after only a couple of months and one swim in the ocean it seized up and wouldn't turn. Even with a thorough clean in fresh water and lubricant. After I was told that it wouldn't be covered by warranty I attempted to fix it myself. It now turns but not well, sometimes it jams up and it can't be turned. The point I guess I'm making is the Japanese bezel is designed to function under all conditions for many years, if it needs maintenance it can be done by yourself at home really easily. Once again thank you for a great video.

Good points about gear play, backlash, and the difference between perception and a problem. Of my rotating bezel watches the marathon jsar is my favorite to use.

    Brilliant video!!! Never knew
about the clever design differences in Japanese bezels, makes complete sense and now come to think of it I don't think I ever had a problem with the bezels on my Seiko's after swimming in the sea.

Valuable insight! Thanks! I was actually searching for a video on how to make my seiko bezels perform better and less squishy since I haven’t been able to figure it out. But now I see that’s probably not going to be possible if the bezel system is designed differently

Great video. Everyone’s hard on Seiko but everyone loves them as well. As i only own one seiko watch, an alpinist with the internal compass bezel I have no experience in the area but I can tell you I love my alpinist and it holds up good to my other 3 more expensive watches

I realize this is an old video but this a a great example of a suddel nuance that can only be appreciated by someone I to divers.

Finally, someone said it! Thank you for dragging that cat of of the bag. 👊
As a 20+ year diver, this is exactly how I think dive bezels should work. And Seiko does a damned good job at that.

Today I returned a Mido diver because the bezel felt so terrible. My reference before the Mido were a Seiko Sumo 120 click and a citizen promaster 60 click. Both felt much higher in quality, particularly the sumo which feels extremely precise and we'll aligned. The mido had lots of back and forth play, misalignment, and play when pushed down like you show with your Oris. I hope you get a Pelagos so you can compare it's lume to your MM300 as well as it's bezel action.

Interesting take, thanks for the video. I still hate the mushy bezel though. I much prefer clicky.

Sinn 104 has great bezel action. I haven’t handled any of their dive watches, but expect they are great.

Mushy and hard to turn is bad. No argument. If its mushy its BAD.

But seiko bezel have weak and soft clicks
Not tactile like swiss watches ..

Precision means nothing if a simple knock can send it back to the previous detent. Seikos are BAD.

@@watchroll3310 My lume modded vostok amphibia uses a lume bezel with steel tension wire. Takes a right amount for it to turn. Its a bidirectional.

@@watchroll3310 most of my sieko divers are good aligned but very soft clicks and very easy turned..if i put my hand in my pocket and take it off , i find the bezel moved by itself ...very weak ratcheting spring
Different to my breitling avenger which require strong turn to move the bezel
