    Hey man I’m a chippy from NZ, been here in the UK for one year and doing a big job for a woman on charge up/day rate as a learning experience for me, so I didn’t price the job. It’s my first time going out on my own, and I want to keep working for myself in the future and take on another big job but I’m absolutely fucking terrified of pricing a job wrong. I’m already finding on this job there are a lot of hidden things that would never have been accounted for, and very unique things like a very custom deck, building a sauna and stuff I am so scared to price my first job man, do you have any tips outside of using software like this? I’m a good carpenter and I deliver a high quality product every time, maybe a bit slower than some because of this, but I want to do the best job I can. I’m a bit unfamiliar with UK practices and regs at this stage too Any advice?

    Great video - really helpful. Thank you. Only thing I'd say is it would have been nice to see a close up of the finished job. And possibly a reminder to apply the patination oil at the end. One question... Do you get hung up on the instructions for the sealant? Most say a maximum depth of 20-25mm, and a width to depth ratio of 2 to 1. I'm doing flashing on a stone wall where the depth and width varies a lot, so no chance of sticking to that! I guess even on a brick wall it won't usually be possible. In your video, if you're width is that of the chased out mortar - 10mm (8mm once the lead is in there), and depth is 25mm, then without a backing the ratios would be 1 to 3 width to depth. Is that a problem? Or are the manufacturers overly picking in their tech specs?

    • @pauljamieconstruction1871
      @pauljamieconstruction1871 4 месяца назад

      Hi thanks for the nice comment. So usually yes 10mm joint ground out, and lead goes in the chase 20mm. On stone just keep a 10mm joint . If it doesnt have a 8mm joint the pointing will fall out. You can get lead sheet sealant in beige which might look better on stone.

Not many companies are run like this or even spare a thought on some of things and equations you raise in your videos. How do i know ?
