I have a 2012 PW Excel with a Dometic RM8505 fridge. post struck a cord as I have issue with elevation over 3,120 ft according to the fridge manual. A new control panel was installed by previous owner, but don't have details of which one. I have owned since 12/22. Did your new control panel fix your issue with going up in the mountains?

Two days before our trip, I freeze 16 water bottles and put half in the freezer and the other half in the refrigerator just to help the cold process begin.

Use only top grade fuses. The two best brands are Bussman and Littelfuse. They will blow open reliably at the rates amperage. The cheap bargain packages of fuses that are sold at the big box stores are not reliable. They have been tested and found to be dangerous to your equipment.

Your fridge will turn on by propane and battery,but it will take 3 to 5 days to actually get the right temperature to use for storage like almost everyone else

I use white lightning chain lube, clean and reapply every trip.

Drawing a conventional 12v battery(s) down to 50% will reduce their life significantly. AGM are somewhat more tolerant of deeper discharges, and the t105 type 6v battery is quite a bit better still. I take my agm batteries down 40% only before recharging.

I've found that it is pointless to precool the fridge before my trips. I prefer to let frozen half-gallon milk jugs do the work along with pre-cooled products. I turn on the fridge at my location, usually electric, and rotate the jugs to maintain one frozen. Maybe I put one in an outside cooler. My fridge is more efficient with propane and uses little to run for several days in the event that I don't have shore power.

Silicone is wrong and will fail for sure! Lap sealant wont fail if done properly

I have had a parasitic of higher than normal, like 6 amps. It was on the same circuit as the heater. I, of course blamed the heater. years later, as I gave up after pulling the heater and replacing its board, I still had the draw. I have replaced my batteries and it had to be bad - Then I just put up with it as I plug in most of the time. When traveling, I just want my inverter to work so i can have a cup of coffee using the Kuriag. I replaced the inverter, still when I want the coffee, BEEEPPPPP no power to run my coffee. I was talking to a park ranger who came by---he said that, older units mine 2003 dometic, have a "Humidor" switch and it is actually a heater----hmmm I did discover a toggle switch on the underside of the top piece that you attached the temperature thing, just the other day and kinda wondered what it was, but---anyway, That switch activates a little heater. I turned it off and THAT was the draw!!!!! Who knew!!!!!--so, perhaps you want to do a video on that after you confirm it, of course! So just this morning I did not have to go out and start the Honda generator for morning Joe!!! It only took me 12 years to have this discovery!!!

I tried your link to the sika flex and it isn't working. If I search sika flex I get tube's of caulk. I am trying to stop the same leak as you did.

How do you seal the ridged connections ??? Mine keep popping off !!! They have a black rubber seal inside the femal end and goes over the ridged brass fitting.

We have a 2020 Class C. The 120 volt side of the fridge works fine ,, the 12 volt gas side of the unit often has to be reset after running for a while.. Batteries are new, any ideas would be appreciated.

Something to keep in mind is when you stop at a gas station to fuel your vehicle while pulling a camper is that a pilot/flame can be dangerous while at the pumps.

LOL! Flatulence! My unit just went off and on the unit itself said "red/red/green/green" means end of life. That's what mine did. It also says reset will last 3 days and then happen again. After 30 days it will be on continually. I guess I need to take it in and have it replaced lest it activate and I can't shut it off. btw my co unit is 5 yrs old.

We used to add frozen bottles of water inside the fridge to make it easier to keep food cold and help with the load

WOW i have the same issue with our new Gulf Stream 23 right out of the lot. We went to Canada from Denver and by the time we came back the screws of the right corner of the slide were out, same scenario. Luckily it happened within the 1st year so it was under warranty. We took it to Camping world so they fixed it. They stated the slide was not properly built etc. Right after the fixing we went to Vegas from Denver and by the time we came back it was happening again. We took it back to Camping world and now they are stating the wall that holds that side of the RV frame was broken. Because is the wall it falls under the 3 year infrastructure warranty. Now they are contacting Gulf Stream for the warranty and i guess to replace the wall. Kind of weird as i do think the wall was broken when we bought it, and i guess Camping world missed it when they repaired it the first time. You invest that much in this units to just find out that they are just poorly built. It is so sad!! and i guess the places who suppose to repair them, they just don't care but the money they can get for the service. Very disappointing!! Anyways, Your repair looks fabulous!!!!

How long do you figure you could use a 300w car lighter inverter for if you had you laptop plugged into it and you werent driving? How long would be safe enough to pull power without draining the car battery?

The part about the thermistor slipping down because of rough road driving, I can tell this is knowledge coming from a hardened RVer.
