Great question, so it'll likely be part of the 義民文化節 2024 (Yimin Culture) festival and should fall on the Chinese Calendar date of July 20th (Which is August 23rd in the Gregorian calendar). This article below touches upon it but it's a bit difficult to tell how big it'll be. It sort of offhand mentions it under a photo but it also seems to imply how small it is in order to maybe dissuade controversy. In recent years it's been quite controversial so they advertise it less and actually do some alternative events (Painted pig sculptures, school competitions). It's a bit unfortunate all the controversy because it's during a Hakka celebration can take a bit of focus off of celebrating traditional Hakka culture. @@PilgrimageFilms It does seem like they're trying to keep it low. I'm guessing the program starts around the afternoon til evening? Would you advise coming there a bit earlier?

When we arrived it was around 3-4 PM and it seemed like we had missed quite a bit but also when night fell things started picking up a little. I can't confirm if it's on that date but if so I recommend going around noonish or even calling the temple itself!

There is one called the Wind Temple in Tainan but to be honest we see Lei Gong often but don't usually see temples dedicated to him only in Taiwan. I'm sure they exist but I haven't encountered any yet!

Are you trying to understand it on your own or from a fundametalist framework? It's much deeper and richer than post-moderns can possibly grasp unless they're humble enough or have access to the wisest and most educated commentators who work from an established tradition rather than from a vacuum or dogmatic (unexamined, of course) post-Enlightenment propaganda and prejudices. This is not judging you, but you might be a victim of ideology and not even be aware of it.

@@Kirin2022 I do respect the book but sometimes there are interpretations that are hidden. I remember finding a medical solution which was hidden. It does not make sense if you read it as is.

@@lominiski Of course it doesn't. We are too far removed from the times without the help of experts. It's like being confused by Shakespearan era customs, norms, and even word choices--but magnified by 10x. We can't even recognize hyperbole of another contemporary culture most of the time and, instead, automatically assume a lie or deception. We even have semantic misunderstandings between different generations among American today.

From what I've observed, one of the bigger differences is the knowability, so Mazu seems to be very similar to some aspects of Jesus (Kind, merciful) and is often compared to Mary due to some aspects of her story. It seems at the actual events though there is this sort of need to introduce yourself and plead your cause with Mazu meaning that Mazu didn't seem to have the same level of foreknowledge, the idea the Christian God knows even the hairs on our heads. Mazu actually has those Demon generals that tell her information meaning she is relient on outside sources to know things. This sort of conflicts with the comparison of Mazu to Christianity. I'd have to study more to see how much of that introduction during prayer was required vs. formal greeting to a deity but basically, there is a friendship and love we see in Jesus that is extremely intimate compared to other belief systems. Jesus knows us!

It was literally terrifying but really helps you understand gatherings better, there were similar numbers (More actually) at the temple during passover during the time of Jesus and you can kind of understand why the crowds had such influence over the political decisions during that week!

It's interesting, actually the parents sort of seem to have ultimate control and can even sue kids for not providing but there was a court case last year when two kids got a court case removed by proving ol' dad was a deadbeat.
