I feel the main benefit from fishing comes with the Tin Fishin Bin, basically allowing you to have emergency food that will never spoil (Even outside of bundling wrap). Also, Deep Bass spawning Malbatross is nice.

the problem with fishing in dst is you don’t really have time in early to mid game to fish, it’s much cheaper and faster to make pigs kill some merms or fish in ponds. not only that, fish meals have cheaper and easier alternatives and i don’t really see why would i go fishing when i have pierogis… i mean for fun? but it’s not fun cause in dst you constantly in danger - overheating / freezing / pirate raid / shark / no food left and you have to watch all this just to catch a fish? also the fishing tab is ridiculous, wasting things to get fish when you can just catch it from pond for free?.. naaah. and don’t tell me about sunfish and winter fish, they’re only useful because klei was too “smart” to make thermal stones unbreakable, like in ds. tho mod “no thermal stone durability” solves this problem.
