@Aaron Hart Yup, that mac mini setup is very close to a 27" iMac specs-wise (fusion drive, not SSD) so why bother ? That said, if you're say, a music producer who don't need 330$ keyboard, a 100$ mouse, 1400$ display, a 300$ egpu or a better graphics card for 200$, the mini is a great mac for an almost acceptable price.

Really great video. I just purchased a 2018 Mac mini and upgraded the RAM to 32 GB, and attached an external hard drive and EGPU through Thunderbolt 3. So far, very impressed.
I did the most important parts of what was done here as soon as the 2018 mini was released, but on a smaller and more cost-effective scale: I found a good (560R/520W) 1TB SSD for $100 and put it in a case I had for extra storage; Newegg was running a sale on an LG 27" 4K monitor for $259 (plus a $20 coupon) the month of the mini's release; and I got the best deal on good (Crucial, if I remember right) RAM I could find. The only thing I would do better if I was spending more like these guys did would be to get 64GB of RAM. And maybe work harder to find a deal on a 2GB eternal SSD. Still, I ended up with a solid second rig for not too much money. Doing it now with an Apple refurbished mini still wouldn't be a bad idea.
I bought the maxed out 2018 Mac mini and I would prefer Apple's own RAM and SSD which are way better than what's available in the market. I paired it with LG ultrafine 27" 5K display which LG worked with Apple for its manufacturing details according to Apple's standard. I love that monitor just so you know and it matches up with mini pretty well. I didnt want to get the one that you had because it has a silver awkward style base and no camera/mic. But I bought my mini as my music server :) My main desktop machine is iMac Pro mid tier.
A PlayStation hard drive fits in the MacMini very well, and they have 1TB, 2TB and 4TB versions on Amazon. You can even get a hybrid drive @2TB fro about 79.99 and the OS installs on the SSD side and programs install on the platter side making it a fast system.
Hi! I was wondering about getting a 2018 Mac Mini with the following specs: 3.2 6-core i7, 32 GB Ram, 1TB SSD, 10 Gb Ethernet, and adding an eGPU with a 16GB video card. Would that be good enough for 4K video editing in FCPx?

I see a lot of comparisons and options for the mini in terms of graphic capability, which is pretty impressive in its own right. But I'm still looking for videos that showcase what "The little box that could" can do for audio production where visuals are far less important (though high resolutions do allow more info on the screen) compared to the ability to lay down and record multiple tracks and run a potentialy large number of plugins, both of which not only requires fast read/write, but a large storage capacity. Even the impressive 10Gb ethernet isn't particularly useful as even the more ambitious audio projects aren't that big compared to an equivalent video project. It could be useful to run plugins and samples in realtime over the network if there was a reason to do so, though I'm frankly at a loss to see the value of doing things that way; the only advantage I can see is sending and receiving audio projects a little bit faster.
