    Funny how he 'solves' the problem of the difficulty of a one hander over the shoulder by increasing his shoulder height by 10 inches this way. He likes fast courts so he really needs this shot to play the way he plays. I think we'll be seeing more of this, fortunately

    • @johndunlap9139
      @johndunlap9139 5 лет назад +4

      @maccajoe Perhaps but it helps with the height issue too.

    My guess is that Shapovalov learned how to play this to shut down cheeky players who would hit high top spin forehands to his backhand when he was younger. Being a lefty, it takes some real balls to go with a one handed backhand. For me, being a right handed player, the one handed backhand was all about having a better backhand. My slice became a lot better and and when a player was foolish enough to hit the ball to the sweet spot, I rewarded them by giving them a break and ending the point with an insane winner down the line or at some crazy angle.

    His backhand is his strength and weakness at the same time. With a one handed backhand you need to be able defend and redirect effectively with a slice. That allows you to be patient and choose when and how to attack. Every great one handed backhander has it: Federer, Thiem, Wawrinka. Dennis practically doesnt have it which makes him very inconsistent. That is the biggest weakness of his right now as far as I am concerned and the reason he hasnt won a tournament yet. May be a switch to Yuzniy as a coach will make a difference. He should also improve return and the game around the net. But the later two I see some improvement this year. So work on a backhand slice and make it your weapon. Otherwise it will continue being: great victories and highlight shots and no titles

    • @KingCast65
      @KingCast65 5 лет назад +1

      Yes he needs the slice ball, correct. I love my BH slice and so many players have no clue what to do with it especially if I hit is aggressively X/C to their usual BH.

      Yes, agreed. To get to the top, you need to have as many tools in your arsenal as possible. Only maybe one or two things will be your weapons but the other skills need to be strong enough to not get exploited

    It's best to name this signature move as: "Denis Shapovalov's Patented One-Legged Backhand"
    It would be awesome to make a video of compilations of the most well-known signature moves in tennis of different players like: Roger Federer's SABR (Sneaky Attack By Roger) & Pete Sampras Dunk Smash as an examples.

  • @Xtiansldrs

    He’s mastered this move. Initially I thought it was from his being able to get a bit more height...but Idt just a couple inches would do that. It seems it really is just an effective and powerful shot!
