This match was simply Monfils redlining his game. Obviously if you smack balls onto the lines you’ll beat anyone. It’s like when de Minaur almost beat Rafa earlier this year by smacking every ball much harder than he normally does. It’s not a sustainable game plan, but maybe it’ll get you a win sometimes. I wish Monfils played more risky tennis, but it’s just not how he was raised to play I guess.
