It’s very important for criticism like this to be put out there. As a fan, I am optimistic that these issues will be fixed as they scale up operations but as a customer, expectations should always be met and hopefully exceeded.
@@stuartburns8657 Some people will say 'Tesla is a new car company, give them time to sort out the problems'. WRONG. Tesla has been making cars for more than 10 years, and still loads of quality issues, software issues, and LIES from Elon Musk (FSD is almost ready, LA to New York automatically. yeah right).
@@stuartburns8657 I have heard that Tesla factory workers in Fremont California are under-paid, their salary + benefits are much lower than a union autoworker at Ford or Honda or Toyota. Maybe that's why so many quality issues? Disgruntled and low-grade workers? Or maybe just *poor* *engineering* ? haha
We picked up our Model Y last December, and unless i just have no eye for it, couldn’t find any fit and finish problems. Still haven’t. I was a professional mechanic for many years, and dealt with cars from VW to BMW to MBZ, and American brands. This car beats all of them in comfort, sound system, performance, every metric you can name. Fit and Finish is right up there with the best.
@@Redmanticore MB EQS, end of discussion, based on what I have seen. I had an S-class years ago, and several lesser models. Even the 190 was superb. I can't get beyond the lousy door closing sound of the Tesla 3/Y. Get rid of the frameless glass!
@@AudiTTQuattro2003 we might be closer than you think. Just wait until Giga Texas is ready and new vehicles are gonna be made way better than those from Fremont
@@jordanjk seems unrealistic to expect zero quality issues in such a complex and mass produced product. When there are issues Tesla should make human beings accessible to resolve them. It's a frustrating experience when you can not get in touch with a person on the phone or have your issue resolved in a timely manner. Good customer service is a weakness that Tesla should address.
I feel you, Got my model 3 perfomance 2019 delivered with a puncture hole in the back seat, a trunk that hit into the bumper causing groves and paint damage when closed, condensation in the rear lights, everything got fixed eventually but it was a hassle to drive back and forth to the service center. Still rooting for Tesla, hope the Cybertruck comes to europe!
Bill. I feel hopeful waiting on my S LR when did you place your order I’m waiting since late March est DD late nov. south Florida. Lots of good luck JK
@@jerroldkoenig1236 The biggest issue in FL seems to be getting all the cars out of the train yard in Alabama and transported to Florida. Mine seemed to be the last one out of the train yard.
The clicking sound on the b Pilar is in the seat. It is the hooks that hold the leather to the frame. Try sitting in it and just replicating the movement of your body as it goes thru a turn. You will hear the clicking. I have the same issue on my plaid.
Great video. Thanks Ryan. I took possession of my 2021 Model S Long Range in late July. I had zero actual "fit and finish" issues but have had a litany of non-critical tech issues (parking sensors, navigation maps, USB drive, etc etc). In addition, it crapped the bed during a firmware update and needed to be towed to service, leaving me car-less for 4 days. I'm still a fan of Tesla as they are clearly the market leader and I believe in their mission. But, I fear they are under huge pressure to ship product that isn't quite ready for prime time. I remain confident they'll invest in systems to render all this moot.
This was a great a video, and one I’m particularly happy to see you post. Fanboism can destroy objectivity, and that’s unfortunately what we see all too often in discussion of Tesla and other subjects. One can be a proponent of Tesla and still be honest and up front regarding its failings. People shouldn’t be offended by that. Even though I don’t own a Tesla, I’ve become a supporter In recent months, and hope to purchase two of them next year. But I’m not going into that purchase with my eyes closed. I want a Tesla, but I also want the quality the purchase price demands. Thanks again for the honesty!
Hey Ryan, love the informative videos. I took delivery of my Model Y Performance about 2 months ago. Only issues were very minimal - one of the coat hooks wouldn't stay closed (was a quick and easy repair from the mobile tech) and my front passenger seat had a crease where there shouldn't be one. I hesitated even mentioning the crease to them, because it was pretty small. They told me they could just steam it out, no big deal. When I went to pick up my car, they had been too aggressive with the steamer, and actually wore off the white on the seat. Now they are replacing the "vegan leather" of the seat. I should have gone with my instincts and said "No, it's not a big enough deal." But compared to what others have had to deal with, mine are minor inconveniences, but still strange to deal with. I've owned everything from BMWs & MBZs, down to pickup trucks and even a mini van back in the day. Never had any issues at delivery. BUT - they sure didn't drive like this car. And it's still my favorite car to drive of them all. How crazy is that? Thanks for the info you provide. Cheers.
Your favorite car? Even though so many hours wasted at the superchargers, when taking a road trip? A gasoline car can add 400 miles of range in 5 minutes.
@@DerekDavis213 Considering I barely take my Tesla on road trips, I don't waste "hours" at superchargers. How about the "hours" wasted at gas stations throughout the year for you? I plug my car in when I get home, and have a "full tank" for what I need every day. I LOVE not having to go to the gas station anymore. And how much does that "400 miles of range in 5 minutes" cost you now? When I do go on a trip, I get about 200 miles of range in 15 minutes. So yes, it does take a little longer. But as I said, on a daily basis, I never have to stop. Different strokes for different folks. And that's ok. I have a gas vehicle we take on trips and that my wife drives daily. I have the best of both worlds. Cheers.
Picked up my Model 3 SR+ in August. Zero issues. I checked it over carefully for all the issues I have seen online. Found no issues with fit and finish.
Just received my model Y performance. A few small issues: 1. A chunk of tire was missing from my passenger rear and rim had small scratch in that location 2. Both rear doors had to be realigned. They resolved both issues in one visit. That’s all, not too bad. Very very happy with the car!
My Model 3 long range had essentially no issues on delivery a year ago. Some very minor fitting issues with the plastic on certain parts of the car but nothing drastic enough to take into the shop. Also there are some panel gaps in certain parts of the rear of the car but I didn’t even notice them until someone said I should look around the car for them.
I took delivery of my Model Y in May of this year, and the biggest issue I had was my driver's side door handle wouldn’t close all the way automatically. A quick push on the handle would make it fall flush, but the fact that it required that extra effort was annoying. It took 2 service appointments, but it is fixed now and working properly, just like the other handles. Overall, I absolutely love my MY and can’t see myself ever getting a different vehicle 😊
Agree... thanks for sharing the truth. Tesla owners overlook these issues now because of the experience. Hopefully by the end of 2022 we see some more consistency in the finishes. However with demand still off the charts it might be the same for a while. I'm leasing a 2021 model x and wondered if I would change to the new version. If they both have the same 371mi range, then I'll just buy out the 2021. Thanks for the reviews!
Our model 3 delivered in July only had three minor paint issues and those three paint issues were located around the hinges for the trunk and side door so not a big issue. They fixed all at a follow up service appointment.
Bought a performance model 3 in 2018 when they offered free supercharging for life as a perk to juice sales. Zero issues. No rattles, misalignments, tears, nothing. Brings a smile to my face to this day. And free charging is so sweet. Never selling.
Like I mentioned in a comment on your other video, I took delivery of a 2021 M3P about 3 weeks ago and have encountered zero issues. I'm also the type of person to notice anything wrong. Thankfully, everything has been amazing. I'm shocked that a vehicle that's double the cost of mine has so many issues. I would be pretty upset...
Even if the car costed 10 thousand dollars shame on Tesla for shipping such cars from Fremont. Thank God in Europe we no longer take delivery of cars coming from the nightmare Fremont factory.
I love that you also bring out the negative issues. I think it is really important to not be blind to bad things just because you are a fan boy - or fangirl. 😀 Now when Tesla has started to show huge profits, they should invest more in their service. And hopefully Austin and Berlin can do better.
Yeah this is sad !! If they can have a dented bumper on their most expensive car then someone needs to overhaul their quality control department. They can’t always get away with these silly things.
Model 3 owner 2021 and mine like many others has a plethora of small issues, gaps, water leaks, smells, faulty sensors. It still has autopilot and that's one of the main reason I purchased so of course I'm still happy. Plus 100% torque on tap + full electric.
We picked up our long range Y in July. The front bumper had a couple of paint drips. They fixed one but ordered a new bumper for us. There was also a small tear in the front passenger door upholstery which Tesla fixed when we returned for the bumper. Before we went to that service appointment we discovered a larger than acceptable gap in the rear where the trunk meets the body, and they fixed that for us as well. This past week I started to get an error message, “park assist unavailable.” I tried two different fixes per their recommendation but neither worked so we have a service appointment at the end of this month for that. I’ve searched online and it appears as if others have experienced the same error and it does require a tech to secure the sensors. If the closest Tesla location was closer than two hours each direction, it wouldn’t be as much of an issue but these appointments require me to take off an entire day of work. I do still love my model Y however.
Its also crazy how much better cars coming out of the Shanghai factory are when compared to US ones. My china built 2021 model 3 I got in New Zealand has no quality issues and was perfect. No panel gaps, fit and finish issues, and the paint was also great! No complaints at all...
My MYP only had two issues upon delivery. One was a fingerprint in the clear coat on the frunk. I ended up getting full PPF on the front that made this disappear. The other was painters tape left behind the passenger’s side rocker panel; they ended up replacing the rocker panel as it was deformed.
Speaks volumes about your integrity. To talk openly about the problems with something you love. Well done. BTW, maybe I got lucky, but my refreshed Model S (LR) had no issues. Went over it closely, following an online list of what to look for upon delivery. Even had a paint shop check it out. Tesla definite has work to do on this issue, but there has been progress.
Looking at the 3 and Y, after the ramp up is done they fully iron out these kind of issues. Regardless, I'm still going to buy one because Tesla's benefits and I've never had enough pride to care about small issues that don't impact the main purpose of the device can it get me from point A to point B: yes Okay then
@@matthewboyd8689 I hope you do get one soon. You will NOT be disappointed. Fix any minor issues if there are any and enjoy a car more than any you’ve owned. It’s a great experience. Best of luck
@@seantiz only bad part is is that I can't afford a new Model 3, so I'll be waiting until the"Model 2" (or whatever they decide to call it) comes out (love compact cars though) So it's kinda funny not knowing any specs or even what it will look like. The fact it's a Tesla with enough range to use the Supercharger network, the emergency avoidance, Boombox, and the fact they can only put their money to growing EV sales is enough to win me over. But to help gain attention (while remaining humble) I plan on painting it to look like Herbie and explain that they are both underdogs that are loved despite not having a roaring engine. 2023(~ish) Can hardly wait
I had purchased 2 Tesla's in 2018 and the quality control was shit then. I bought a 2021 model Y and it was perfect. So imo they have made lots of initial quality improvements.
My parents took delivery of a new Long Range Model S a few weeks ago. Shortly afterword they noticed one tail light wasn't working, and shortly after that the main screen simply went completely out. Service center found two loose connections and corrected them. Still, just like you said it's evidence of really substandard quality control. Like you, I'm a big Tesla fan (and owner of an older Model S, and a shareholder) so I really hope they make some progress on these issues soon.
My new plaid spent 3 days in service center getting the main car computer replaced.. after over 800 miles of driving the cameras wouldn't calibrate. I feel lucky after watching this about all your issues. still love the car either way.
Tesla took care of most issues I had found during that initial 24hr window with the car after delivery (only a paint imperfection, and door seal being overstretched). Interesting issue just popped up for me recently was the dreaded bubbling of the head rest. It is extremely unacceptable and makes no sense. I found online the cause of this, but this should not be happening to my car I've only driven 2700 miles so far. I really hope they will replace the head rest and I will be ceramic coating it and cleaning it more often to prevent this issue. But still that is insane to me. I still wouldn't buy any other car atm. They are incredible, but come on Tesla!
Hi Ryan, great content as always. I’ve got 3 issues with my MY: 1: the horn changes sound when it rains and the car is driven through even the tiniest puddle 2: the front dash wood is rough enough to give me splinters 3: there is a cracking sound now and again in hot weather somewhere in the front passenger area of the car. They tell me the horn issue is the first of its kind in China None of them have been fixed yet
Oh, one more thing. Every time I took a turn I heard something slide back and fourth under the floor. I Somone else had mentioned, I did not want service to disassemble everything and make matters worse. Did were more than happy to dig into it, but from many years of automotive purchasing experience, I decided to look into this myself I took the passenger seat out and the carpet under the seat. I took a couple hard left turns on the neighborhood until it heard the item slide right. I took a grabber tool and pulled out a large unused bolt inside the structural frame that ran across the vehicle. (model Y) I can image exactly what happened, they are under such pressure to make their numbers for the shareholders, that when the factory dropped the bolt, they said “shit” and knew it would take too long to find. So they just moved forward on the build.I reassembled the car, no issues, not scratches and went on with my life, happy to not hear the noise on every turn. I told service but they did not seem to care. (Colorado)
Thank you. This helped me to prepare myself for our delivery. Everything you said is sound reason. As they say, the news isn't made of "the train arrived on time." Your presentation puts the 98% in perspective and helps to deal with the nasty 2%.
The glass in your driver's door appears to bounce a bit after you shut the door. That's my biggest gripe with frame-less windows on cars - stability. Some folks will invariably grab the glass when shutting the door and it will weaken over time. You should have seen the floppy windows on my '79 Camaro! My M3LR has only had one problem (so far) that I've had to get serviced. I noticed that after a rain shower or taking it through a car wash, water would collect between the bottom of the rear doors and the body of the car. It turns out the rubber seals around the rear doors had been installed incorrectly and they fixed it for free even though I didn't notice it at delivery. I suppose they considered it a warranty issue. I still notice a tiny amount of moisture collecting between the door glass and the rubber seal. Frame-less windows look nice but are just silly IMO. They have to lower EVERY time you open and close the door so they'll make a proper seal after the door is closed. That HAS to increase wear and tear. Anyhoo, enjoy the Plaid! I hope you don't find any more problems!
My favorite story when it comes to quality control in cars comes from Bob Lutz (The guy was a top exec at all of the big 3 US car makers). He once had a meeting with Ferdinand Piëch (Rest in peace), a man who happened to be the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, an insane engineer who made racing cars so fast they ruined entire racing series and dominated every competition they got into, road cars so advanced everyone copied his team's innovations, and was who now the chairman of the VW group. At that point (around the mid 2000s), the VW group was known for having insane build quality and consistency on all of their cars. To a point that other automakers thought was impossible at scale. So Bob asks Ferdinand how they managed that. The thing is, Ferdinand is also known as an absolute dictator in business who crushed everything in his path. So, here's Ferdinand's reply: I got all the production execs in a room and told them they had six weeks to achieve consistent 4mm gaps or they'd all be fired. It was easy!". This guy was known for setting requirements for his engineers that were so harsh many would straight up quit, knowing they'd be fired for not succeeding to reach said requirements either way. He had a... special management style. But it is that that mad him the man who made the VW group into the biggest, most powerful automotive group on earth. I don't know if Elon could afford to go full on dictator to fix this, though.
July 2020 Model Y. Had about 4 service appointments to fix delivery issues. About a month total time Tesla had my car. Did get a loaner Model S for about 3 week. Annoying it took so long but they will take care of any issues. Still wouldn't trade it for anything else. Driving experience is great, FSD Beta is awesome and is getting better!
I bought my Model 3 at end of the June 2020. There were a few rattles, a couple still in the passenger door area. The one rattle that was a PITA, there was a rattle in the back that I couldn't pinpoint and if you sat in the back seat you didn't hear it. That took seven visits to resolve, a mobile service person discovered it was the bar in the bottom of the passenger rear seat that keeps the rear seat together. The bar was rattling against the cylinder it was in, and putting their cushioned tape fixed it. The wireless cell phone shelf rattled also and that took a couple of visits also. I still love the car though.
My parents took delivery of their model 3 SR+ in March, and there was a gap in the trunk, after an appointment to fix this, the service center just made a dent on top of the trunk, so they fix it again and now the trunk has a hard time closing, like a misalignment... They're a bit tired of the situation If it wasn't for this particular problem, they love this car ! (I incited them to buy it haha)
I luckily had no issues with my Model Y in September... except for a little mark on the interior near the driver's side pillar. Didn't even mention it, I don't want it to sit in a shop and the car is so much goddamn fun it makes up for any gaps I haven't noticed.
i took delivery of my model 3 in august 30th and right away i noticed it had wheel alignment issue. then i noticed dashboard noise after driving for a while rear middle armrest was making creaking noise. two of the speakers were also making creaking noises. so far been to the service center twice and had mobile service once. and my model 3 is currently at the shop getting serviced after water was leaking from under the glove box. i love this car but the fit and finish quality is crazy!
I feel your pain. My Plaid S has been in the shop for over a week now because SC can't figure out what causing the rattling noise from the dash/A pillar area.
For a $130,000 car, this is totally unacceptable as you mentioned. I ended up having my ENTIRE car replaced due to that same mirror problem and power steering randomly turning off. The door handles feel super cheap and would often get stuck from the very first time I used them. I really really really hope they can work these out. In the meantime, I decided to just returning the car and cutting my losses. I love EVs so I'm trying out Lucid.
I received my refreshed MS Long Range in June 2021 and have many issues as well, some are still needing to be fixed. Issues that have been fixed are as follows: rattling behind the large front screen, charge port not closing, front trunk alert stating not latched, the A/C failing due to a leak (in August, Texas!), Front driver door handle very hard to open, all door handles way to far in and dust getting into the vehicle due to ripped foam on the front air intake. Issues still be to fixed: two damaged trip pieces (occured during repairs) and a rattling in the back drivers side. With all that I have to say I'm happy with the folks at the service center, even though I've had to take my car in 6 times and have mobile service out once! I do still love the car but completely agree that a vehicle of this price shouldn't have this many issues.
I took delivery of a red 2020 Model X Performance in June right after Fremont reopened after the pandemic closure. I had two paint imperfections that required respraying. I'd scheduled to have the car wrapped, but it was delivered filthy (they flatbedded it 5 hours through a wind/rain storm in the high desert) so I didn't find out about the imperfections until the detailer had to halt work. The nearest service center at the time was 5 hours drive away, so that took 20 hours of driving to resolve (thankfully there's now a service center 20 minutes away). I've had trim issues on my driver side mirror, so they replaced the entire assembly. The rear window had an alignment issue, so they replaced that entire assembly. The falcon wing doors were rubbing the paint so they were adjusted twice and the paint was reapplied twice. They filled the gearbox oil too low initially, so the car threw an error at 10 PM at night 100 miles from home. It rate limited my speed to 40 mph on an 80 mph freeway. I've had a ton of firmware issues. Homelink worked perfectly for 8 months, but after a software update started to double signal my garage. The end result is that it starts to open and then immediately shuts or vice versa. The door open buttons on the mcu are non-responsive and often take 4 presses to cause the door to open. I regularly get a warning saying the parking assist feature is unavailable. I don't even have that feature since I didn't purchase FSD. I've made one attempt so far at having these issues fixed. No luck yet. I knew going into buying a Tesla I'd need to get the car serviced to get it just right. I feel like I'm finally almost there, but it's taken more effort on my part than I had expected and I went in eyes wide open. I still love my X, but it's not an experience I can recommend without reservation.
I guess I was lucky. I had no fit & finish, or paint issues on my 2018 Blue Dual Motor I received in September 2018. In fact I drove the car over to the shop that did the full body PPF and still after 3 years no issues except I had to have the 12 Volt Battery replace in October 2020. I'll keep knocking on wood.
Thanks for this video Ryan. It is sorely needed. I’ve never been a blind fanboy of anything. I love my Tesla, but if us owners don’t raise these issues, Tesla won’t fix them quickly enough. We need to find a balance between being complimentary and calling out legitimate issues. As for me, I got a 2nd hand Model Y from a non Tesla dealer, and paid $5k more than I would have were it new. It has 8k miles on it, and I was able to take it for a very extended test drive and inspection so I knew what I was getting. With the trade in I was given for my previous car, and the crazy long wait time, paying more for 2nd hand one made sense to me (I’m sure others will disagree). But at least then you know what you’re getting.
I picked up mine and 2 days later I noticed water leaking inside under the driver seat. After going to 3 service centers and everyone sending me back home the service center I took delivery at took in my car after speaking to the manager. Come to find out my HVAC case was cracked and needed to be replaced. My car sat at the service center for 14 days, and after numerous excuses of why it wasn’t ready I finally got it back. I hope no one has to deal with something like this
5:48 - My Plaid had a deep scratch on the underside of the front bumper. Probably from loading or unloading on the car carrier. 6:19 - It also had extra adhesive in exactly the same spot on the drivers side. Not quite as much as you had. 8:05 - None of my door handles were flush with the body.
MIC teslas have excellent fit and finish, the problem seems to be freemont is a giant pile of trash when it comes to fit and finish. at least with MIC teslas have such good scores on fit and finish, that lets me think that berlin and austin will also have good fit and finish, and its mainly a result of freemont being old and out of date compared to the new factories.
Hello Ryan just let you know as of yesterday the Model Y is now available to order in the UK, for early 2022 delivery but only two models Long Range base price £55,000/ $76,000 or Performance base price £65,000, $90,000.
Got our S LR mid July. Frunk alignnment off, weather stripping uneven, missing plastic fram around rear coat hook/ light assembly. Frunk fixed at Carlsbad service center after 2 weeks. other issues were supposed to be fixed by mobile service but they cancelled service on day of, 4 different times saying the part was not in. Still love the car.
No quality problems at all with my Plaid. However, after one day the internet stopped working. I went to my new local service center unannounced. They gave me a loaner and it was fixed a few hours later. They also provided the missing trunk pieces, floor mats , and rear license plate cover.
Fair honest review thanks Ryan, Tesla isn’t perfect by a long way, but over all they are always trying to get better and the core offering of the product is incredibly solid
No issues with our Model 3 purchased in December 2019. Going in for it’s 2 year service soon and will mention the oft mentioned fix for the intermittent steering wheel rattle. Curious to see if they do anything about that.
Being an engineer this makes me really want to become a quality control engineer for them and just inspect cars so that there are little to no issues with the car once it leaves. I have issues on my Y but I don’t want to wait a month to get it fixed. No leaks tho into the car so the panel gaps are just whatever to me at this point.
I just took delete of my Plaid a week ago. I had two problems on delivery. One a small scratch on the bumper which is no big deal. The second one was a big deal. The frunk liner was sticking up above the hood about a 1/8” on both sides. How in the world could any kind of Quality control miss that. Basically plastic sticking up in between the hood and the fender. You could see and definitely feel it. I had to look at the other new cars around me to make sure was not how it came.
My Plaid S came with zero issues. Maybe a later build so perhaps they are improving. Also I live in the bay area and it seemed like the delivery centers were carefully scrubbing all Plaid quality issues prior to delivery.
Not a s plaid, but our new 2021 model 3 also came with issues that surprised us. Left turn signal randomly not working (service could not replicate this too), leather seat creases and the passenger side triangle mirror trim separating from the body. The part that sucks is I left my car in service all day only to pick it up and find out that they did zero work on the car because they had no parts available at all, so I have to wait for mobile service to come over at a later date. More frustrating is a new tear in the driver leather seat has appeared out of nowhere (I really think it happened while service was test driving the car because it wasn't there when we dropped it off)
I find the argument they are new which means unsatisfactory build quality is expected to not make sense. You would expect build quality would be amazing from the start, if you expect to compete with brands like BMW, Audi, Porsche etc.
My 2017 model S had remarkable fit & finish quality with only a minor paint imperfection that I could ignore. However, dozen or more Benz my wife has driven all had perfect fit & finish quality. However, the most recent 2021 E-class GPS software is awful with 6 year old maps, makes numerous mistakes, and overall terrible software.
I'm expecting my Model Y Performance to be delivered next month. I'm anxious to get it, but also have low expectations on quality control. Delivery day is going to be exciting, but I also feel like I'll have my work cut out for me when I look it over, trying to find every fit and finish issue.
I live in New Zealand where we have MIC Model 3s (no Ys yet - but soon surely). The biggest thing people complain about on the NZ forums are the cars arriving filthy and with paint swirls from shitty washing prior to delivery. Filthy on the outside, and sometimes the inside too. At the end of June mine was filthy on the outside after its trip two thirds down the length of the country on a boat and then a car transporter. Not many people are complaining about actual fit and finish issues.
As an engineer, I know how product development works. There’s always a lot of pressure to deliver things that are not mature. I always wait for stuff to get mature enough so I can buy them, in the hope first generation issues have been reported enough to have been fixed in the production line.
Hi Ryan, your shows are always informative and well presented. Great job. So sorry to see you with various problems. I’d have rejected delivery, but I understand you must have been eager to experience this new refreshed S. I picked up my S Long Range on September 25 at the Marina Del Rey Delivery Center (West Los Angeles). The white exterior with 19” wheel and cream interior was perfectly prepared. I did my Munro gap scan and they were fine. The car was clean inside and out. What I noticed is that it take a harder slam to close the door. The rear hatch closed but did not latch on first try. I noticed the seals are larger and thicker than my 2017 S. After two days, the hatch closed and latched normally. The door still take a litter harder swing to close, I am totally fine with this. As you said, the car is quiet. I have since driven the car 1100 miles, including a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. Very nice driving car. Super Charging and rest stop at Kettleman City was a joy, fast charge, windshield cleaner and air service, expresso bar and clean toilets. My car is so far trouble free. I only wish you had my kind of experience. I am certain Tesla will remedy all your concerns. Keep up the great shows. Peter
Got a Shanghai built Model 3 a few weeks ago and got no issues whatsoever (Watch my quality check video). My Model S prior to that, wasn’t that good. Unfortunately, it seems to be a problem related to the US built cars…
Picked up MYLR on September 16,th. No issues yet. I have wax it and everything looks good. It is what I expected and more. However it was the dirty when I picked it up.
Like you I love my Tesla, a 2021 Model 3. At 65, I’ve purchased a number of vehicles, new and used, over the past 50 years (yikes!), but the Tesla buying process was unique and by far the best experience I’ve ever had. The car was delivered to my house at the end of March. I had watched a number of RUclips videos and was aware that there may be some issues with fit and finish. Thankfully my car had only a couple and they were addressed quickly by Tesla. They were: 1) a number of small areas of paint finish issues. They only revealed themselves in sunlight and I had to stand in a particular spot to see them. A 45 minute service center appointment and they were buffed out and that was that. 2) the driver side B pillar two-tone panel was not properly installed. On entering, the panel would come loose. I could kind of pop it back in, but Tesla sent a tech to my house to adjust it. That did not resolve the problem though. So another home service appointment and the tech replaced the entire panel with new parts. That was weeks ago, and it’s not been an issue since, so it appears resolved. Panel gaps and door alignments appear to be fine, and certainly there were no safety or glaring issues present with the car. Like I said, I love the car, and plan on many years of enjoyment on the road with it!
so much hassle for a brand new $130k car I'd rather rent it have fun and give it back .The build quality of the motor , transmission etc are also questionable - let's see how long your car lasts
Had a few issues on my M3 Performance from June 2021. Malfunctioning taillight, broken lumbar switch and rattle on passenger A pillar within first 50 miles. Service center was great and fixed everything but took 5 trips to get them fixed. Love the car but for me, it was more about the time it took out of my day (taking time off work) to get things fixed than the issues themselves.
Ordered my Model Y for the UK today - as today was the first opportunity to order one here in the UK. It will be coming from Shanghai - so the build quality should be better than the ones in the US (I'm hoping). Saw a new Model 3 in my local Reading showroom recently (RHD Chinese built); and the quality looked perfect.
I think you do a good job with Tesla info on your channel Ryan and I always learn something when I watch. But Like I have said on my own channel no one should be surprised about fit and finish when they buy a Tesla. I am a fan of Tesla but it is all about getting cars sold and delivered as fast as possible to meet or exceed quarterly sales goal numbers. Tesla knows their cars are in high demand and customer will take deliver, plus Tesla will fix the issue in a upcoming service appointment. That's the way it is whether the car is a 39K or 139K so its no surprise and Tesla is doing just fine with that business model right now. I think the CyberTruck will have the least fit and finish problems out of all of Tesla Cars in my opinion. Keep up the great videos and enjoy all three of your cars.
I'm waiting for delivery of my MY in January and this worries me since my closest Tesla center is 100 miles away, I can't be back and forth to correct issues, plus what am I to do without a car while they fix the issues. I'll definitely go through the detailed check list at delivery to at least get out of the way all the issues find then, if any.
2018 Model 3. No issues at all. I've not heard of any issues from those around me who've gotten a Tesla. I wonder if it is the delivery center that is not being careful? I know on shipment, things can happen and I'm guessing the delivery specialist is supposed to catch those things before customer delivery. Just a thought since it seems you have had issues with every one you've gotten.
My ‘21 P3 has its flaws. Picked it up mid April and about 7 or 8 panel / fitment issues but, as long as there’s no leaks, that’s all I care about. Some just can’t live with the uneven panels and understandably so. For a $130K + car, I can’t overlook that though.
Hi Ryan - I picked up my brand new 2021 Tesla Model Y Performance (midnight silver) on Sep 17, 2021. Right off the bat, as I'm walking towards my brand new car, I saw at a distance, the driver side headlight pushed in, a bit sideways exposing a non-painted surface on the bumper. I was so disappointed and asked, how is it that no one saw this?? It was not easy to miss at all! Then I look and the back plastic bumper, on the side of the drivers side was out, off a clip, I imagine, I continue to check the car and on the passenger side door, inside, I see a big scratch. Well, Tesla was nice to quickly fix the headlight and the back bumper prior to delivery that day, which I had to wait like an hour for...not too bad, I guess. Then I needed a service appointment to replace the inside plastic panel for the passenger door. I just took it in this past Thursday Oct 14 to Warwick, RI. While there I asked them to also check the hatch as I see it is a bit misaligned. Well, the replacement of the plastic door panel did not go well at all, it's like they didn't think I was going to check it. When I looked underneath the door the plastic panel had a huge warp, exposing a bit of the inside of the door. I ask the service guy to have the technician come out an look at the job he just did. It was a young kid who came out with an attitude. They told me it would have to be replaced again. I asked, why would he install it this way? Of course you can only see it when getting underneath the door. Anyways, then they tell me that the reason for the hatch misalignment is because my Tesla did not come with bump stops in the hatch. How disappointing?!?!...and that they did not have them in stock so I need another service appointment for that. On my way home, I stopped at a Super Charger and took a look at the passenger door again. I pulled on it and pressed it in, and wha-la!!! Fixed!! I fixed it myself!! Apparently, the kid just didn't do a good job installing the plastic panel, hence why the warp. Anyways, I'm from CT, and with taxes I paid $69,404.48 for this car. My wife wants to kill me, as we just found out how bad the paint is on the car, reason why you and everyone else recommends PPF. The paint on the car is way too thin! Never had I experienced that with any of my cars. Now I need to spend another 2gs to get PPF on the full front of the car as I see tiny rock chips on the hood. experience
My September 2021 SR+ had paint defects on 3 panels, couldn't pair to my phone and the app failed when trying to book a Service Centre appointment. I've just posted a video on it 😊

@@stuartburns8657 I have heard that Tesla factory workers in Fremont California are under-paid, their salary + benefits are much lower than a union autoworker at Ford or Honda or Toyota.

Cheers.
lol vegan leather. No such thing. Its fake leather. Bonded leather. 100% fake. Real leather does not wear off. lmfao
Cheers.
In June 2021 I got a new Chinese made Model 3 Performance and it’s perfect. Not a single problem.
Picked up my Model 3 SR+ in August. Zero issues. I checked it over carefully for all the issues I have seen online. Found no issues with fit and finish.
Just received my model Y performance.
A few small issues:
1. A chunk of tire was missing from my passenger rear and rim had small scratch in that location
Hopefully with the new Giga factories, Fremont can slow down and fix their quality issues.
I’m a huge Tesla believer and that’s why you got my sub Ryan. Your honest reviews/ videos is amazing and respect ✊ for that.
Agree... thanks for sharing the truth.

How did they fix the paint issues? Did they buff it out or repaint a portion of the car?
How long was it between delivery and repair?

I'm shocked at the dislikes -- I love Tesla and EVs but people act like a cult. You're doing amazing work in showing constructive criticism!
Yeah this is sad !! If they can have a dented bumper on their most expensive car then someone needs to overhaul their quality control department. They can’t always get away with these silly things.
A dented bumper on a $130,000 car? Absolutely unacceptable! BMW or Audi would fricking never do that to a value customer.
Thank God No problem with Mines so far.A+
Its also crazy how much better cars coming out of the Shanghai factory are when compared to US ones. My china built 2021 model 3 I got in New Zealand has no quality issues and was perfect. No panel gaps, fit and finish issues, and the paint was also great! No complaints at all...
No problems with my 2020 Model 3. Waiting for my Model S now.
Absolutely yes, all was corrected with service center visit and one mobile service. Most were minor issues that are annoying before being fixed.
Regardless, I'm still going to buy one because Tesla's benefits and I've never had enough pride to care about small issues that don't impact the main purpose of the device

@@Nord_Mann They we’re pushing out the M3 that year and quality suffered. If you got one issue free in 2018 you should have bought a lotto ticket.
Ryan the clicking sound could be from the passenger side tweeter. Many cars have a screw in the tweeter that requires tightening.
I picked up my Model Y Performance 3 months ago and the only problem was the coat hanger.
Ryan, you have a lot more confidence in other $130K car companies than I do.
if the customer notices it, why cant trained professionals notice it BEFORE delivery?
fit and finish is not enough of a priority @ tesla
I’ve got 3 issues with my MY:
1: the horn changes sound when it rains and the car is driven through even the tiniest puddle
2: the front dash wood is rough enough to give me splinters
3: there is a cracking sound now and again in hot weather somewhere in the front passenger area of the car.
They tell me the horn issue is the first of its kind in China
None of them have been fixed yet
Oh, one more thing.
Every time I took a turn I heard something slide back and fourth under the floor.
I Somone else had mentioned, I did not want service to disassemble everything and make matters worse.
Did were more than happy to dig into it, but from many years of automotive purchasing experience, I decided to look into this myself
I took the passenger seat out and the carpet under the seat. I took a couple hard left turns on the neighborhood until it heard the item slide right.
I took a grabber tool and pulled out a large unused bolt inside the structural frame that ran across the vehicle. (model Y)
I can image exactly what happened, they are under such pressure to make their numbers for the shareholders, that when the factory dropped the bolt, they said “shit” and knew it would take too long to find.
I just got my Model 3 Performance this last Thursday, sooooo thankful it came perfect 🙏🏽
I'm glad to see that you have no problem telling both sides of the story.
My parents took delivery of their model 3 SR+ in March, and there was a gap in the trunk, after an appointment to fix this, the service center just made a dent on top of the trunk, so they fix it again and now the trunk has a hard time closing, like a misalignment... They're a bit tired of the situation
If it wasn't for this particular problem, they love this car !
Ford and GM both have plenty of issues. I do think Giga Austin will greatly reduce these things.
My model Y is perfect, my model 3 is has some weird gaps on the doors. Hoping my plaid is perfect 🙏🏽
By far the best, honest review I’ve seen from a fellow Tesla fan! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Picked up Model 3 on July 30 2021. Perfect condition!
My Tesla Model 3 delivered Sept 26th 2021 seems to have perfect fit and finish. No issues noticed yet.
My 2020 3 and 2021 Y were delivered with no issues. Im confident my S due in Feb 2022 will be fine...
We took delivery of two Model Ys this summer. No fit or finish problems on either of them.
They also provided the missing trunk pieces, floor mats
, and rear license plate cover.
Mine is doing the same. Aug '19 took delivery. Let us know what the say
I will be interested to see the QC when GigaTexas comes on line.
Elon said the giga Berlin model Y will be "next gen" with .1mm precision, so it wouldn't surprise me if Texas will be the same
Not a s plaid, but our new 2021 model 3 also came with issues that surprised us.
Peter
Thanks for the video and sometimes painfull honesty.👍
Good video. Thanks from Australia
Nice, balanced video - and glad to see you got your own refresh (Omar)
Got a Shanghai built Model 3 a few weeks ago and got no issues whatsoever (Watch my quality check video). My Model S prior to that, wasn’t that good. Unfortunately, it seems to be a problem related to the US built cars…
Picked up MYLR on September 16,th. No issues yet. I have wax it and everything looks good. It is what I expected and more. However it was the dirty when I picked it up.
Appreciate your honesty Ryan. Keep up the great work.
Like I said, I love the car, and plan on many years of enjoyment on the road with it!
so much hassle for a brand new $130k car
I'd rather rent it have fun and give it back .The build quality of the motor , transmission etc are also questionable - let's see how long your car lasts
Now I need to spend another 2gs to get PPF on the full front of the car as I see tiny rock chips on the hood.
experience
I didn't realize you were in the Carlsbad area. I have an appointment to take delivery of my Model Y next week there.
My September 2021 SR+ had paint defects on 3 panels, couldn't pair to my phone and the app failed when trying to book a Service Centre appointment. I've just posted a video on it 😊
