The stones curve away from the Putnam Division roadbed because at about this point a branch diverged northwest to Getty Square in Yonkers. It saw commuter service until 1947 when it was removed. The stones approximate the curve of the Yonkers track; its right of way is still extant in the park, but harder to trace. However, its overpass still exists above the Henry Hudson Parkway (the easternmost of the two park bridges on the section where the parkway heads east-west).

When I was about 11 years old in 1977, my soccer team was practicing on the field when we heard the long, slow freight train going by. We ran to see it and a couple of us hung on to the back of it for a short ride. The coach was not happy with us.

One of the things I love about NYC is it's ever evolving history. Grand central is still standing as useful monument to industry, creativity and transportation, while the Grand Central Stones are part of the memory of what came before. Thanks again!

Passenger trains ended in 1958; freight in '82.

Alots of people is picking up on the old Putnam Rail road trains. Even though we have the bike trailer and all that that's all fine. However my Holly spirit is telling me that thats something is about to come back I'm telling you. You know that they have the old vancortlant park Putnam train station old frame and the trestle bridge up and 10 stones up for a reason.

Every now and then talk is heard about adding a third track to the Harlem Division or reactivating the Putnam Division. The latter is becoming less practical as some of the former bridges have been replaced by pedestrian bridges and sections of the right-of-way compromised.

Listen carefully. Starting next year they are definitely gonna dig a 🕳️ hole for sewers and on bailey Avenue and tibbets brook park to lay down the pipes down to get rid of the filthy waters. Another thing to they are not gonna tair down no Putnam railroad tracks just to put a Greenway over there because it's not gonna happen. The Putnam railroad new York central line is definitely owned by the metro North railroad and the CXS and tibbets brook park and Long Island railroad. They are gonna lay down the sewers and pipes down above the Putnam railroad tracks.. I have a real spriital feeling they are definitely gonna lay down the train tracks and trains running on them again I'm telling you. That's the reason why they have the Putnam railroad station and the five furmer bridges up for a reason. If you ride your bicycle fourteen miles you don't see no land mark over there. I'm just letting you know.

I waited for a train there for a year before some old bearded historian told me it doesn’t stop there anymore. I call Uber and went to an Irish pub in Woodlawn instead.
