The threaded rod is supposed to turn freely to adjust it, and the roll pin is the handle to grip it. The square nut stays within the bracket and you should turn the threaded rod to adjust it in and out. You shouldn’t have to remove the rock shaft. When I installed my 3pt I took the rod out to inspect it and found the swivel had dirt in it. Cleaned the dirt out, reinstalled the rod...worked like a charm.
Thanks for the comment. ByCo1 informed me of that 3 months ago. Funny thing about buying a 36 year old tractor is you don't always get operators manuals and the 3 point hitch itself didn't come with any installation directions so I was pretty much winging it back then. But I'm learning from any comments I've gotten. Thanks for watching
The threaded rod with the roll pin also controls the range of motion for the three point hitch. If you raise the three point all the way up you can adjust how low the three point will go by screwing the threaded rod all the way in or out, I don't remember which.
Yep, that got covered in the video.. Screwing that nut all the way up (toward the gas tank area) is the way to get the full lowering movement. Thanks for watching!
@@ByCo1 I thought about that but when I tried it didn't seem obvious that progress was being made. Guess I should've kept at it. Oh well, mistakes were made.
That's good advice. I dont plan to put the mowing deck. back on since I have the Husqvarna for my mowing needs unless something unforeseen happens. But if I do have to, I will remember that Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! Good luck with the install. Thosec 140s are pretty serious garden tractors. If it has a rockshaft, it's probably pretty similar. I am glad I have it on my tractor now. Just need to figure out the implements that will be the most useful.
Question for you, totally unrelated to the three point hitch. How did you fasten the triangle to the back of the seat? I was going to use some self tapping screws, but was hesitant on doing it until I may find how other folks have done it first.
Yeah, just showed my inexperience at that time. I really did think of that but when I turned it, it didn't seem to be doing anything so I figured it wasn't working. Thanks for watching and commenting!
"DON'T DO THIS!". You are well meaning but you are misleading people. If you simply turn the bolt by grabbing the roll pin, you can adjust the lower limit of the hitch (or deck). The nut is square because it is supposed to fit in between the brackets. You DON'T TURN THE NUT, you turn the threaded bolt. FYI you should replace the roll pin with the right size.
This guy knows little about the workings of the 3 point hitch. I hope the millions of people watching this video ( so he says ) don't follow his explanation.

Thank you for the video and taking the time to share this.
You're welcome. Just showing my mistakes so others can avoid them.

@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree There wasn't any need to take the rock shaft lose, the roll pin acts as a handle to turn the threaded rod.

@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree It's OK. Just one more opportunity to see the assembly. I just ordered one for my 455 and your vids will help.
@@jackmanatee3162 Thanks, things can be learned from things done wrong as well as things done right.
Congrats on the 455!
john deere mower decks aren't meant to ride constantly on the caster wheels, they are for anti scalping. so you still should use the stop.

Love the content. I'm getting ready to put a 3 point on my 140 so this video helped a little bit

That is exactly how I did it my friend.

@@tractorstrailsandlivingfree Great, thank you! I subscribed as well. 👍
@@michaelwoolums-music6650 I appreciate it
You don’t need to do all of that, you need to adjust by turning the screw with the roll pin to adjust.

Very nice job
Thanks. If I had the chance to do it again on another garden tractor the process would look less clumsy I hope.
But it did the job.

Very good
Hey those all threaded bolts are up side down
Do you mean the links from the lower arms to the rockshaft?
I have the same set up and mine are with the nut at the bottom between the brackets
Sorry I meant to say the head of the all thread bolt is between the lower bracket
I noticed your setup is up under your tractor more than mine so that would be different
I wish I could send you a picture but I can't sorry

Terrible advice.
What part? Moving the nut all the way in? Why so?
