Josh, thanks for the explanation on the tobacco barn. When we travel to Martinsville to visit my wife’s family, we see these types of buildings all over. I always wondered what they were because they are very unusual.
Glad I could clear that up for ya! They really are a unique piece of architecture and I love the history behind them.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Get well soon!! Really enjoy your content and appreciate all your work and transparency.
In Kentucky our tobacco barns are much different. We have doors(vents) along the length of the structure that allows air drying so no supplemental heat needed. Just curious if those type barns are enclosed (other than the rafter vents) due to the higher relative humidity y'all have?
honestly...I have no idea.....we are more humid than KY thats for sure
NC here I hung a lot of tobacco in those barns, and some were taller than the one he shows it's hard work for a teenager to hustle those sticks full of green tobacco to the top. I hung the top 3 my brother hung the lower it took about 2 long days to fill one barn. The ones around my area have disappeared or overgrown no one farms anymore. cheers :)
@@leonard5606 The tobacco barns around here are considerably larger than the one in the video and took a full crew to hang the wagonloads stationed on each level of rails. The newer/younger crew members were usually on the bottom tiers to hand up to the top because it was NASTY especially in late August/Sept with the crap dripping off the leaves. Shew. Sorry- major flashback. :) Since the federal subsidies dried up there's no money in it but times change and so must we.
I'm sorry for future farming generations that won't get to enjoy a brisk fall morning walking through a barn full of dried tobacco=== the smell was amazing.
Hard work there-butyou are living your dream. Hope you feel better!
Appreciate ya! Farming isn't always a dream!
DayQuil just makes colds last longer……. v-C, V- B and zinc….. activity at 50-70% of normal helps you get over it quicker….. fluids fluids and more fluids…….and pretty much any soup will warm you up and and help you rest at night …hopeful your already feeling better
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind for next time!

Josh excellent work on the projects that you had to get done today and may you get better soon with what ails you 😮😊❤
Hey Josh! I hope that you feel better soon! Good job all around... and filling in those holes before they get bigger must have been VERY satisfying, despite your cold!
Thanks for the well wishes....I'm feeling much better!
Hope your feeling better Josh great video. 🇺🇸 stay safe
Thanks for the barn update!! Old barns are awesome! Built by farms and last a lifetime!!
You can find a few around my area here in NC but they've all fallen down or overgrown. No one farms using these kinds of barns anymore. Tell you the truth no one in my area plants tobacco anymore. :)
@ I’ve actually grown some tobacco. I didn’t have much luck. 😁😁
@@jeffeubanks370 I think I was born in a tobacco field......lol
@ 🤣🤣
Back in the good ole days!!
Options for equipment to get jobs done is really cool. Hope you feel better soon.

Fun on the farm. Hope you feel better!
Thanks for the well wishes!
No fun working sick … hope you can get some rest and feel better soon!
Appreciate that! I'm feeling much better, thanks for asking.
A lot of work to do by oneself, Josh. I know you are up to the tasks. You're getting to be quite a good equipment operator as well. Good luck.
Appreciate it!
Hope you feel better soon!!!!
Hope you feel better soon, I dread working while I'm ill..
Be careful, there is a local lady near me that fell into a sinkhole and died, it took a few days to recover her body.
Thank you very much for the video sir
Get well soon, brother!
The tobacco barn is so awesome
Hope you are feeling much better!
Supplement your system with zinc (if you aren’t currently)
♥️🌟
Always loved his camera work. 👍
Being a 45+year resident of Florida, I am familiar with sinkholes.. 😬
Research Yin Chiao for colds & other illnesses. It really works. I order mine from Herbs Direct
love the barn...i wish i had one!
Excellent vid.. sometimes when your not feeling great its better being on a machine doing all those other jobs where the machine does all the work.. stay safe 🏴
I agree!
I like your idea of rolling out the hay and moving the cattle
But I would think you would enjoy positive comments as well as experience comments 😄
today we'll chat more about it...new vid coming out around 5p about how I hay the cattle in winter and build pastures
Need humidifier when heat gets turned on get humidifier and sambuco/elderberry for help
Always something new!
There’s always something to do, it never ends.
Good morning !!!

@StoneyRidgeFarmer I love when the County tells you what you can and can't do on your property. We've been down this road on our property. We are tossing around the idea of a barndo on our property as our primary home and leave our manufacture home as an income property for the farm. I haven't brought any plans to the County about the barndo but i'm prepared for them to say no!
I'll tell ya this.....sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. My county won't allow us to have more than 1 living dwelling.
@ i agree, ask for forgiveness ;). We’re allowed 1 per 5 acres for 10 acre parcel.
Cool
Lol "...but I feel like crap..." Now thats an interesting way to start a video. Lord knows i understand. The work never quits just cause you feel like crap. 21 years over the road, now ranch owner, ive not been allowed a sick day since highschool. I get it. Hang in there pard. Definitely wish a quad had a cup holder... The tractors got one... Lol hot chocolate always seems to help clear my sinuses, and sometimes helps my moderate sore throat.... Hilariously, tootsie rolls helps a lot too.
Tip: Buying used furniture is a great way to get bed bugs started.
bhahhaha....too funny...but....totally correct!!!
always need more fill dirt. Put some organic matter in it and u got u top soil. I like to make terraces on real steep side hills and build greenhouses on them. Towns and county all know bring ditch cleaning to me. I take any clean fill no matter how big or small.
Great idea
Maybe North Carolina knows something I don't, but in Kentucky, those are TIERS, not PIERS! Tier rails. Tiers...different levels. I think piers are found at the beach or under bridges.
Josh, was there a problem with the ram pump? We were thinking about putting one in to pump water to a holding tank. Love seeing the tobacco barn, haven't seen the inside of one in many years. My uncle had a big tobacco farm from about the 1945 to the mid 1970's in Wilson NC. You have a beautiful farm, keep up the good work. Hope you get better soon.
yep...the ram pump simply SUCKED!! lol....it's just not a good and reliable source of year round water for livestock. Constant problems plagued this system...too many variables such as temperature, clogging, frost, moss, algea, moving pumps and floods that caused the ram pump to be horribly unreliable. It's a great little novelty and great in a pinch....but simply not reliable....let a water tank run dry with 50 cattle and you'll know what I mean....that little trickle won't keep up and your stock tank will be beat to pieces out in the middle of the pasture...ask me how I know!
😊Interesting video, thank you for posting. Feel better!
Thanks for the good vibes!
I’ll buy that HD dump truck right now if you, “don’t need it.”
Great video as always! You should remember from your healthcare days to take zinc tabs when your sick, shortens colds and flus because its stops replication of viruses! I take it every other day because I work in the hospital and I have people coughing and sneezing in my general area all day. And moms chicken soup helps too!!! Maybe you can do a Colab with Micheal Mcgie one of these days, his youtube channel is all about homesteading, raising and slaughtering animals, and self sustainable living . When are you going to get a few more german shepards for buddy to train before he goes to the big dog run. After your chores while your watching football let us know the teams you like.
oh my friend...my healthcare days were intensive care....I'm pretty sure I'm getting these colds from the GYM
A+ Lot of Earthwork comes with Farming
The upside of wearing that earpro is you're only talking like you're deaf temporarily.😉👍👍
true!
Carolina red dirt
You should build a equipment shed for tractors and other equipment
This video is amazing! What inspired you to create content like this?
I've been doing it for 8 years now my friend
It would be a good Idea for you to build a shed for all your equipment.
It probably would, but it’s not like he’s been sitting on his butt doing nothing. Give the guy a break.
yeppers....I have the big shop building....and I need to make room for everything
lol....thanks for taking up for me....it's tough to get all this done and burn the candle at both ends every day for sure...but he's right....I need a shed just to keep things out of the weather
My only farm job was hanging tobacco
I watch another youtuber called, The Hoof GP. He goes around to different farms and conducts hoof maintenance on cows. Is this something you have considered doing as well as your herd population grows
Hoof GP is mainly taking care of cattle that are living in "other than ideal conditions"...my animals typically won't have these health problems such as hoof root and fescue foot due to the constant movement of the animals. If we need to treat a hoof issue...we most certainly will...however so far we have not had any foot issues that required treatment or medication....keeping the animals moving is instrumental in keeping them healthy for sure
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer That answers my question perfectly. Thank you brother
You need to find a system to keep your toys where you can use them.🤣
yep....I have one...can't ya tell bhahhahaha
Vitamin D3 will reduce chances of getting sick. Lack of sunlight (Vitamin D) is a contributed why more people get sick in the winter time.
my friend....I'm outside 80% of my life lol....I hit the gym 4-5 days a week as well as eat right, take multivitamins and live in the elements.....sometimes we just get sick. Right now my dad and step mother have the same darn illness...pretty sure dad lives on snapping turtle, kale and squirrel lol
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer FYI: when your outside during the cold temps you cover up (long sleeves, pants instead of shorts, etc), getting less sun exposure on your skin, causing lower Vitamin D levels.
my friend....believe me, I'm a registered nurse....I get more vitamin D than 99% of our population....trust me brother. However, it's more than just vit D.....I honestly think the stress of content creation and the amount of mental work it takes to keep this business rolling is the biggest culprit. I find myself getting sick at the same time each year....the time when views are down, workload is up, income is struggling and I'm just not my best person. Healthy mind...healthy body that's for sure
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer OK, No worries. FYI, I expect some significant economic problems in 2025, so try to get your finances prepared. Leveage as much tax deductions as you.
Go for some paid advertisements if you can. I am OK with you doing paid ads in your content. I get it, video creation is income. Tell your subscribers in a video & I am sure they will be supportive!
Be careful operating equipment while taking cold medicines - but you have a nursing background and already know that!
lol....well I'm not taking NyQuil that's for sure.....just a touch of dayquil....any mind altering substance is a no go on this farm.....Never will I ever ride any farm equipment working machine with a beer in my hand either...my father does this and it's nearly killed him so many times. Cold beer is for after the day is done, not for working...that's for sure
You got tunnels under you that you didn't know about?......old coal mine maybe?
keep on watching you'll hear what the issue is....brush burried in there
Josh, where do you get your lime from and how much do you buy ?
here's the video...his info is written on his truck I do believe ruclips.net/video/8QHR0COoMl8/видео.html 180 tons
Zinc and vitamin D3. Hot ginger tea
Ok Josh … if you are a self proclaimed cheapskate you crack me up to buy a new washer/dryer just for shop rags 🤭!!? Cheapskates don’t do that 😆!!
someone gave it to me...next question your honor lol
@ 😝😂😂😂.. fair enough!! Case closed!! 😆
lol
What is with the "clear prop" you been watching "jimmy's world" too much?
I've been taking flying lessons my brother...should have my private pilots by march!
