With all respect (because I too loved the original cast), I think the best SNL cast may have been in the 90s with Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, David Spade, Cris Rock, Adam Sandler, and Mike Myers. There were so many great regular characters and skits, from Church Lady and Opera Man to Wayne and Garth, Dieter and Sprokets, and Hans and Franz. I really loved Dennis Miller on Weekend Update, but I believe he left in the early 90s before the crew mentioned above really jelled. I'll always have a special place in my heart for Chevy, Dan, John, Gilda, Lorraine and Garrett, but the 90s cast certainly content for most talented and funniest.
This was from the third episode. The host that night was Rob Reiner, who was then part of the sitcom "All in the Family". After that show ended, he's been very successful at directing.
The first two seasons of SNL were so good, nothing could ever compare. And nothing has. After viewing those, I can safely say SNL now is a pale, rather pathetic shadow of what it once was.
Weekend update changed so much. Early days it was light hearted jokes, norm came and got more risky with it and was fired due to it(among other reasons), and then when they war on comedy happened it went back to light hearted jokes. These two new guys are obnoxiously offensive given the events that happened before hand.
One fall down the stairs and Ford’s presidency was over. A heavily influential factor was Chevy Chase’s constant lambast of him on SNL. The skits were hysterical and even though SNL helped give us Jimmy Carter, I’m not bitter. However, it’s hard not to notice they don’t give Biden anywhere near the same treatment.
That was weird. Jokes fell kinda flat and the graphics were so Stone Age. Remember, the internet was just a twinkle in our military’s eye at this point.

@@thecawdsquad875 The irony is that Reagan eventually turned very pro gun-control after he was shot at. Came after watching Saturday Night. My god they nailed it
watched it last night, the guy they got to play chevy chase looks damn near perfect, he also looks like ted bundy but thats besides the point.
The movie was incredible!
This wasn't in the movie
Don't care what you think 😊
Same just literally finished watching it… cast everything spot on
I just saw the movie. I met a couple in the theater that said they saw this live. This is tv history wow
I might have missed the first couple of shows but never missed another one while the original cast was there.
And nobody cares cause it's woke bs now
This is Streets Ahead!
Coined and minted.
@@kr6productions been there coined that
I remember 1975 so well as the year brought us SNL. For me the first 10 years of the show were the best years.
Chevy is a legend. So good!
Too bad he is widely considered to be a racist asshole.....
Chevy chase a hall of fame classic my favorite actor
Hang on... I hear Laraine.... I see Tricia Takanawa....
My thoughts exactly
Came here to the comments to see that I wasn’t alone in thinking that haha 😂
Laraine Newman of Los Angeles was a 23-year-old beautiful young lady in 1975!
Her daughter is Hannah Einbeinder from the show Hacks - she looks similar to her. Both beautiful indeed!
Hi, I'm Chevy Chase and you're not! 😂 😂
vintage Chevy, he was really good on Weekend update, the dam founder!
he was good, but Norm McDonald really was the best in my opinion
So the jokes that Colin Jost and Michael Che have been making has been a tradition really since this time
someone came from TikTok
Wow this guy was smokin hot back then!
I can’t believe this is the guy who played Pierce Hawthorne. He was literally Jeff Winger back in his day
@@SadChimchar probably why Joel McHale played him on "A Futile and Stupid Gesture"
My childhood crush !!
We all were😂
Youth is definitely wasted on the young!
Timeless.
Chevy chase weekend update era
Is the reporter where Trisha Takanawa comes from?
Lol I was thinking the same thing
Love that you noticed this. She does sound like Trisha takanawa 😂
Yes seems like it
The reporter is "inspired" by Monty Python!
2:02, Laraine Newman went on to voice acting when she left SNL after the fifth year.
It's telling that the funniest part of this highlight clip of Chevy Chase is Laraine Newman and Don Pardo
The first weekend update!
The Don Pardo bit is still LOL funny 49 years later. I miss him as the SNL announcer.
probably still my favourite weekend update host Dennis miller is a close second though this is from the third episode where rob Reiner hosts and before he does the I’m Chevy chase and your not bit I think it starts in episode four or five I just rewatched season one
I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not.
Chevy Chase walked so Jon Stewart could run.

They cut off the clip before the bumper that says, "guests of NBC's Saturday Night stay at the Blaine Hotel…"
🤣😅😂
That was still funny!
seeing rudolf hess being mentioned on SNL honestly feels like a historical overlap.
The bit with the advertisements cracked me up
Is this the first week end up date

Love the movie 🍿
he looks a bit like Seth... rather Seth looks a bit like Chevy
Laraine Newman = Tricia Takanawa
I KNEW SHE SOUNDED FAMILIAR
Caucasian Reporter, Laraine Newman

Chevy was the hot one in the group
I presume that teletype sound effect was from NBC Thesaurus' library . . .
I miss that sound effect it just makes it sound more official I miss it on real news casts and Weekend Update

1 week before my 10th b day
Now I feel old. We had a racist TV it only showed BLACK AND WHITE!
Don Pardo as Don Pardo
Just watching Saturday night. Not bad. 😉
Such a good bit
He was hot, and even crush material. But comedically speaking Belushi was the best.
Not a chance.
Belushi and Chase had great chemistry, especially on Weekend Update! ruclips.net/video/znFY7PYomEA/видео.html
Everyone in the Not Ready for Prime Time Players was excellent.
Wait is this where family guy got that from
Guido Slacks!

Sadly people didn’t know he was a horrible person. Top of the line yero :)
Irony?
You can tell he is coked out of his gourd.
Reagan against gun control? Irony much?

When SNL used to be funny,
(takes a drink)
There's always one.
SNL has alternately been funny and sucked for years. There were some real stinker ensembles.
SNL is garbage nowadays, I can’t watch it. I’d rather watch MSNBC
The Michael Keaton hosted episode a few weeks ago was actually really funny…especially The Cookies skit
Not funny at all....
