Glenn Gould never had this perfect control and the sound is so German and stolid. A type of cold ,never sentimental or flowery! Even Tureck didnt get this directness almost unpianistic totally unRomanticized ideal in her playing! This is truly fine. The Scarlatti is so perfect i dont believe its possible on a single piano. I believe its studio perfecting. Its impossible to get a Scarlatti both Michelangeli and Horowitz come nowhere near it! I wonder if either ever heard this genius!!@???
The lines, the voicing, the colours, the articulations, the pedalling, the dynamics, the durations, the phrasing, the characters...He is tridimensional. I am sure that Steinway still remembers.

Just a friendly heads-up about a typo: at 1:05:10 Pogorelich plays the K. 1 in d minor, not the K. 15. The K. 15 is in e minor. RUclips videos indicate that Pogorelich often played the K. 1 as a concert encore. But in my view he never played it better than he does here.

Help! I can't stop listening. I want to hear every note this guy plays. It's as if he's a conduit from the composer directly to the listener. No discernable ego or personal idiosyncrasies to distract from the music. Pure and difficult to pull off. Truly as good as it gets, imho. Humphrey Burton, director, knows how to pick 'em. Burton also has some wonderful vids w/ Vienna Phil among others.

Its almost like a different person from the pianist he is in Scriabin orRavel. The lushness,the lines of his Chopin require a different dound from him. Pogo is the most perfect in his Bach and Scarlatti i think any of us will ever hear!
His playing is very extreme, you either like it or don't like it. That's why during the competition, Martha Argerich had arguement with the judges and left.

Although i feel and experience that Bach's music is among the purest and noblest currently present on earth, I don't think it is a good thing to judge and rank. Because where does it end, and why would you do it? To give your own taste more value as oppose to others? The only judgement you can have with absolute certainty is that you yourself value some music above other music. Doing it for the whole of humanity is a form of arrogance.

I was there at the time working as video mixer operator. If I remember well it was in 1987/88. He is a genius and very great artist to work with.

Since there is no shortage of ill-informed people who have no hesitation in proclaiming the most mediocre musical doodlings are "genius", which creates a sort of received opinion that, say, "Coldplay are great", surely it behoves those of us with ears, a brain, musical taste, and, dare I say it, a soul, to proclaim the timeless and eternal supremacy of the greatest classical masters, if only to give confidence to the new convert to this music that the sublime qualities of this music they are discovering is not a mirage, and that they are not deluded, pretentious or wrong in thinking that this music is, indeed, amongst the greatest ever written?

i have no doubt he is the best interpreter ever, surpassing maria callas and horowitz, and at the level of the greatest composers to whom he seems to play for.
The way Ivo played "Für Elise" reminds me on how Horowitz played "Träumerei" ( Schumann) in Moscow. Bravissimo!
