    For meals...I typically go to the MDR for dinner and almost always meet and start conversing with others that are sitting at tables next to me. By the time the cruise is over...I have met the family for drinks once or twice during the cruise and some have become friends that I still keep in contact with long after the cruise. As Matt said in the video...with solo cruising you can do as much or as little as you would like. Remember you have 100% control over how enjoyable your cruise is whether you are going solo or not. :)

    I have met and had great conversations with people in the hot tub. Even have seen them on other cruises later. Also, the spa is one of my favorite things to do. Everyone is very nice and open to talk. Honestly, cruising is the best way to solo travel. Everyone, is there to have a good time and most want to meet new people. My last cruise in November 2019 was 21 day cruise and I met new friends taking the shuttle to the ship from airport in Rome. We had the same dinner reservations that evening and met a solo friend from New Zealand. More people were added to our group during trip and met so many people around the world. Anyway, my point is; go with the flow and be open to talk to people around you. 4 more days till Odyssey!!! Thanks for doing a video on Solo Cruising!

      Try leaving your book on the table and your napkin on your seat. Maybe a sweater on the back of the chair. Do one or two of those things and no one is going to be taking your spot. If they do call it buffet roulette and start a new table on the other side of the lifo.

    • @thomascarter3117
      @thomascarter3117 7 месяцев назад

      My solution to this problem is to take an old pocket book with you to the buffet. When you get up to go get something leave the book open to any page face down and also put your napkin on the chair. This usually tells the cleanup crew that you'll be back.

Dining alone was like being a queen for the day, as the staff was so welcoming and accommodating. I feel safe to move about and enjoy everything on the cruise. Wondering if you should cruise alone? My advice...just do it!!!

    • @s.n.e.8941
      @s.n.e.8941 2 года назад +1

      Definitely! And if any women out there are wondering about the safety of crusing solo, as a woman who has cruised solo and traveled the world solo, I would certainly say that I felt safe cruising solo. If anyone gives you the creeps, just don't announce to them that you are solo. My room stewards often checked on me each evening to ask how my day was. Staff that recognized me after a day or two checked in briefly as well. Sometimes a family or two or a group of women would try to befriend me. I would engage with them if I wanted to, but not being hitched to anyone is often a goal of mine when cruising solo so I do t often get too attached to folks. A little chatter here and there is plenty for me. Safety has not been a problem yet. Go for it!

      @@evelynmckenzie5269 I've been in your shoes. My former friend went as far as hiding my cash tip that I leavefor the cabin steward each day. Midway, I opened a drawer for some tweezers and saw the cash. I asked her if it was hers and she said that she planned on giving it to me when we got the airport bc I already prepaid the tips. I explained to her that it is my choice. I could not help her understand that she doesn't get a say in what I do with my money. She got very upset, started yelling about how I'm wasteful and too generous..blah blah.... That was weird bc I do quite well actually. She didn't have a problem trying to get me to waste my money at the casino.
      Anyway, she refused to leave the cabin for the whole day & night. Then got mad bc the steward didn't clean it...yeah...I know
      I saw him the next day and gave him the entire tip for the week. I told him that I generally leave a tip on the last day but I was giving it to him now for the whole trip so I didn't forget. He quietly whispered, I know and looked over my shoulder, smiled like he was greeting someone. She was standing at the door. Lol, the crew knows which ones are the cruise-jerks. She was a tyrant the entire trip.
      Moral of the story, from that cruise, I no longer share a cabin with friends anymore. Unless it's family, I happily pay the piper for my own space.

    I'd done 15 or 16 cruises with a GF/partner over the last 20 years but I booked my first solo Cruise a year ago on Black Friday weekend for a repositioning/trans-Atlantic cruise from Tampa to Barcelona on the celebrity constellation. The single supplement was greatly diminished because of the lack of sales and I got it for probably a 10% charge over the single per person rate. Just did the same thing about 5 weeks ago for a cruise out of Tampa this coming Sunday. VTG and a couple other travel websites have links to solo cruises with better rates that they show on the database. I absolutely loved my first solo cruise and I'm looking forward to this one this Sunday. Nobody else to worry about pleasing and doing everything they want to do You don't have to share a space. Because I knew the sales were so low I did bid on it family aft veranda on the constellation and managed to get probably the best one there. The cabin was huge there was actually a door between the two portions of the cabin and the balcony was bigger than even the hump cabins on the solstice class ships. Two huge Chase lounges two big stuffed chairs a table with two more chairs and plenty of room beyond that You could have a party with 20 people out there.
    Plus the Atlantic was so smooth it was amazing ...never had to use The seasick patches I brought from all the stores people told about the Atlantic being so rough.
    People were wonderful on the cruise never felt alone at all unless I wanted to be.

    Hey Matt I booked a solo cabin on harmony of the seas and are use a mobility scooter needless to say there wasn’t that much room for me and the scooter so next time I will definitely book a regular state room just fully accessible in the future

    Been on 4 cruises before but in 3 weeks I will be doing my first solo on a transatlantic Harmony of The Seas for almost 2 weeks. Being on a big ship helps finding a variety of venues and activities to spend time. I am not worried about the many sea days or feeling lonely because I so much want to do this after the last 18 difficult months of my life. I am willing to do anything to have fun, even talk to other people which I am not good at.

    Enjoyed the video! I know that this is an RC channel, but NCL has a perk that maybe RC should consider to their solo cabins. They have a separate area for solo cabins only accessible to solo travelers. They have their own solo lounge where you can easily meet other solos. I could have booked an inside cabin for less, but the studio area perks were worth it to me

    Honestly I always thought solo vacations were kinda boring, yeah you get to do what you want when you want, but that's not anything I cant do from home lol but last week I said screw it, may as well try it before I knock it. Wanted to do a 6 night cruise on Allure but discovered a 4 and 3 in the same week and did the whole consecutive cruising bit and booked both so April I can finally just go do it lol

    Hey Matt **Q&A** for you: As I haven’t had the privilege of being on a Royal Caribbean cruise yet~ Does the cruise line offer matching status from other lines?? Like their loyalty programs.. Trying to convince my sister (who I like to travel with to expand our cruises 👍😎)

    Going solo on Christmas down to Bahamas - wife decided not to go. I am wondering why RC no longer offers a day trip out to the Bahamas water park at Atlantis Paradise Island - seems like that was one of the better ways to spend the day. This hasn't been offered on my last few cruises even though the resort is open.

      No worries. Set boundaries if it does happen and have fun with it. I have had to say something when they just tag along too much. Once, a guy introduced me as his future wife and I responded by introducing him as my future ex husband. It’s a big ship and on another ship a guy said I was hard to find, but when he did see me on the dock ( not sure if it was accidentally), and wanted to take a picture with me, I did. It made him happy and it was a harmless crush. Just have fun, but I wouldn’t drink as a solo. At least not too much and that goes for a man or woman. I have seen some things that just can’t be unseen. 😂
