Li Lianjie is one of the most well known faces in martial arts movies, but you probably know him better as Jet Li . From martial arts movies in the '80s and '90s up to modern-day franchises like The Expendables, Li has been an action star for as long as many moviegoers can remember. But fans were sent into a frenzy after a 2018 photo of the actor appearing aged beyond his years went viral. The snapshot was almost unrecognizable as the great martial arts star. Born in 1963, the martial artist would have just turned 55 at the time the buzzworthy picture was posted, but many thought he appeared to be 20 or 30 years older. People made their concerns known all around the world, but is there really any reason to worry? Here are the real reasons why Jet Li looks completely different now...

Jet Li’s 63 and he looks older than his age.
He looks like an old man. And isn’t really old yet.
      He’s still middle aged.
I did research on people’s ages.
And people that turn 65 become old.
Jet Li is older yeah. But he’s not old yet. He’s not a senior citizen yet.
Til he’s 65. Like Jackie Chan. John Travolta.

The guy's 55 years old, of course he doesn't have the same hairstyle he did 10-20 years ago. I'm in my 20's and i'm already thinking about shaving my head because i can't deal with the fact that i have considerably less hair than i had like 10 years ago. Bruce willis did the same thing, nobody wants to see an action star with a comb-over.

I'm nearly 20 years younger than Li, and studied martial arts most of my life. I was competitive in Japan from 5th grade on through college, taking home prefecture championships in kendo all three years of junior high, two years in high school and two in college. I can now barely walk two blocks without being in intense pain, and I'm not dealing with any other health issues. The toll that fighting takes on your body is serious, I've had surgery on both shoulders, both knees, steel plates keeping some of my ribs together, two wrist surgeries, and bone fragments removed from my left hand. All that and I didn't preform on Li's level, nowhere close. Li preformed a demonstration for President Nixon in the 70s fighting four opponents at once. People need to cut the guy some slack, he's going through a lot and a life of fighting, performing stunts and other martial feats has just taken it's toll. We're only mortal and time catches up with us.

What is the point of training like that if you're just going to end up a helpless gimp in your old age
PSA get a concealed carry permit don't be a hothead and keep to yourself.Youll avoid all of the above mentioned pain and you don't have to try to be the karate kid.
And before someone goes on about "guns are for pussies" ect, tell that to the mass shooters and criminals of the world.Miss me with that shit.

    • @chrisdodd4014
      @chrisdodd4014 6 лет назад +27

Well I can't say I regret doing it. Would I like to have gotten the same experience without the injuries? Sure. It's not like I didn't get anything out of it either. I was able to attend one of the best private academies in Japan for free. I was able to go to college for free at Toudai no less.
It's not just about self defense. If it were, guns would be the way to go for sure. They're easy to pick up and learn, even giving children the ability to kill trained soldiers. You can kill at range, there are a lot of advantages. When I returned to the US for grad school I worked part time in a pawn shop and carried a gun. Dunno why you even brought guns up, as that's not what we're talking about. We were talking about a martial arts icon who's struggling with health issues, but I suppose you felt the need to make a political point.
My dad was in the Navy, stationed at Ogasawara. I was an American Army brat who was trying to fit into Japanese schools when I was a kid. I started studying martial arts to defend myself, and to interact with other kids my age outside of school. Then it became a passion that I didn't want to let go of. Once I started competing, weather I won or lost I was always able to take something away from it. Victory meant I got a rush like I'd never experienced before, and defeat pushed me to learn more about my shortcomings, develop and learn new strategies, cover my weaknesses while leveraging my strengths. It's just like anything else you have such a passion for. You always strive to be better. Studying swordplay was a big portion of my life for a lot of years, still is despite not being fit to compete. I still exercise and practice every day both before and after work.

Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Bruce Willis, and more.
There really hasn't been anyone to replace them. The closest thing to replacements we have are the avengers actors like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, etc but they are more of half-serious half-comedy and silly-style action movies. They never portray characters in a real world setting. I can't even name an actor that does to be honest. All modern action movies have to be forcibly injected with silliness and inappropriate/unrealistic humor.

I lived with thyroid problems for 10yrs. also it will seriously make you look and feel old. There's prescription meds that work great and reverse the symptoms. I look 20yrs. younger now and feel alive again! Good luck Jet you're a good actor!

Li has been acting and practicing martial arts simultaneously since 1982. Jet Li "burning out" has been a progression over 36 years. Taken into the fact Jet Li is only 55, he has been going extremely hard for over half his lifetime . Hardly Quick !
