Even though you guys are in a completely different genre of RUclips than me, I really love and can relate when you talk about your RUclips journey. In a weird way it's comforting knowing that other RUclipsrs have similar struggles that I have.
When they spoke about wasting time, that hit hard. I should be studying react and focus on my college project right now but instead I'm watching this 2 hours long podcast which is now making me question my decisions.
As a Cable/Internet Guy, I can tell y’all with confidence that the reason people wouldn’t show up or tell you what was wrong with your copper wires, is because they know how bad it is and they don’t want to be the guy to fix it or put the MASSIVE amount of paperwork to start the process.
I used to work in a call centre in the broadband tech department and the amount of times we’d have to chase up engineers just to finally fix a 30 year old cable made me want to end it 😅
i mean the boys know, its like sending a ticket up to customer support. Nothing ever happens, but they try it since its better than not "doing" anything about it
I literally don't care at all if you guys ever talk about anime. I'm here for the shit talking, the anecdotes and crazy stories. Love you guys talking about whatever!
I love all of the trash taste episodes but for some reason, this episode was really hard-hitting. I appreciate the guys opening up about their artist block, burn out moments, and insecurities with RUclips, and trying to find that balance as content creators and their personal happiness. I really loved their honesty.
Honestly, you guys can talk about jack shit and I'll be entertained. What makes me love this podcast is mainly because of the interactions between everyone and how I can personally vibe with the atmosphere that's created. Of course, the topics of anime and Japan are the main selling point, but I find myself being way more interested when the conversation diverges from that. I have never found myself interested in chess, but once you guys started talking about it I was actually invested in the conversation about it. My personal experience is "I listen to Trash Taste because I want to listen to Connor, Joey, and Garnt talk about whatever they want because no matter what they talk about I love to listen to them talking about it with each other" and not "I listen to Trash Taste because they talk about topics that I like"
im actually really really glad its not an anime exclusive podcast, its much more interesting- connor always has so many fascinating and entertaining stories and he has a really good ability of telling stories in an entertaining way and keeping people captivated and listening. The topics discussed on the podcast are also interesting such as the behind the scenes of youtube and the topics to do with japan that most people dont talk about such as the excessive paperwork or annoyance when getting an apartment etc. Anyway im loving the podcast each week boys and i have watched every episode that has been released so far, the podcast is the highlight of my week, keep up the good work boys and also shoutout to maline (not sure how to spell her name) for her behind the scenes work you the real MVP.

I definitely can't relate to the same extent as people that do this full-time, but that creator burnout chat hit home. Sometimes it's just like, man, I see the appeal of having a boss that just tells you what to do and when to do it.
I can agree. I don't want to he a leader, I want to he a follower. I love just being told "do this this and this" because then I know how things are going at turn out.

The editing part was interesting to listen to. I'm think I'm more in the Soviet Womble boat, who once said that the editor is the RUclipsr. While I don't really agree with him fully, when it comes to content like mine the editing basically IS the content. I take loads of footage from myself and the guys in my unit and put it together to basically create a story like a modern day machinima, and more often than not the actual story my videos tell is not what actually happened. I move audio around, leave out certain scenes and all sorts, all to make a funnier video. I still have editors I work with very rarely for my sillier multiplayer games with mates kind of content, but when I first trialled editors I realised that a lot of the people who applied and I paid to make a test video (I edited a video using the raw footage and then had like 6-7 different editors do their own edits using the footage as well and compared) were technically good editors, but bad story tellers or comedians. For instance one left the set up of a joke in, but cut the punchline from the video. My mate Spiff said the most important part is getting an editor that basically "gets" your content and I definitely agree, but it's still hard. I suppose I enjoy the actual video creation side of RUclips more than the just pure recording side. Maybe if I was doing more video essays and scripted videos I'd feel differently.
I suppose the double edge of being a big youtuber is that in some to most cases it stops being fun and more of a job as the expectations of all your viewers grow from just school mates to thousands of strangers on the internet who will not hesitate to tear you a structurally superfluous new behind. Love the arma vids btw, not particularly into that kind of game myself but you definitely make it look fun. Keep it up!
wasn't expecting rimmy to be here but having personally seen many of your videos, your style and type of videos are unique and really enjoyable and that unique style made me love it so seeing this comment made me realize how much effort and time you use to edit and how well you do it so thank you and love ya vids :D

I love how the main topic of this video is just real bros helping each other out on keeping their sanity and bettering themselves. I’m sure your fans can wait a few months or weeks if it means you don’t quit forever
The "RUclips is a friend simulator" thing is more true than I ever realized. So many of the people I enjoy watching are the people that help me feel like being in a casual friend group, and I think it's why I prefer channels hosted by multiple people over one person.
I can feel it. The one person who decided that groups can only pass as a whole or the marks can only be determined collective on the basis of the overall project outcome must've been a f****ng psychopath for sure. I consider myself social enough since I was the main catalyst of my beloved clique who brought my friends together over the last decade. But university and college, man, that were tough times of isolation. Can't put my finger on it why most fellow students were such dick head back then.
Ahh that's too loud of a color. White and black is good enough, I prefer the black one. I am 28 and wearing a purple shirt would make me look like a child and Joey and the team made it to their mature taste as well. White and black is versatile and for everyone
Music Fiend true lol, but I feel like the more options the better, maybe make the purple one limited for those who are interested, I know I’d wear it lol

Yeah same at least not to your scale I started 3-4 months ago and I think my most viewed vid is maybe 20 views I got raided on stream so I don’t really count that and I haven’t even made an actual vid in ages

Just saying sometimes the videos you put the least effort into get the most views :D It’s a weird thing, I’m not saying effort isn’t rewarded. Just remember Lins tech tips most viewed video for years was a first impressions on a toy fire truck.
I think youtube culture and the taste of people on this medium like to have a parasocial relationship as opposed to the more removed nature of something with high production. Vloggers and Podcasters make much more money than people making short films or sketches on this site. Just what I've observed. There's a ton of examples of this too.
This pretty much the same with a lot of creative career, especially those who depends on social media a lot. Know your audience, be consistent, don’t be stale, don’t be a bad person, and expect to put in the grind for years. Being an aspiring artist, I relate with you guys so much.

As a writer who’s dealt with artist’s block, you handle yourself with care first and foremost! For creativity, immerse yourself in life and others’ content. RUclips, vlogs (since we can’t hang out in public places safely enough), reading fiction and nonfiction, tv, and games (gameplay for me).
Same. For me, when I feel burnt out, I basically just listen to anisong to keep myself motivated and sometimes, new arcs will come to mind. Listening also help me to visualise how the story moves on if I get creative block.
Imagine they did a challenge where Garnt makes a Joey type video, Conner makes a Gigguk video and Joey makes a Conner type video just to see what it’d be like 😂 and how different or similar the videos would be
When they started talking about the whole "the podcast gets more views and we're just talking to each other" I think that's probably because people can just listen to a podcast and do other stuff, plus they have fun conversations! An actual video, I feel like I have to sit down and watch it so it feels like a lot more of a commitment :b
this podcast is special, it really do feel like im there with them, drinks in hand discussing our days and listening thru daily struggles entertaining love you guys
Location, engagement with a dash of "why the hell not". Doubt he would've had interesting stories if he were a shut in that didn't interact in any way with people.
Around 49:25 I started noticing the streak of "yeah" yeah" "yeah" responses to what Joey was saying, I guess it goes back to the episode where you guys mentioned how you keep saying はい or something to acknowledge you understand what the speaker is saying in Japan
Fear of wasting time is the problem of young adults nowadays. We feel people moved rapidly now because the connection we have to other people. We see people do and achieve something. Because of that, we feel pressured to do something before times runs out. This, i experience currently. I am currently trying to recollect my thoughts and emotions to be able to go through this.
Fuck I know that pain, I'm also getting an engineering degree and it fucking sucks. The worst part is that the questions and assignments aren't crazy hard (usually) it's just everything is really depressing, expensive, and I don't like it. Like if I was super passionate about it I'd have a 4.0. I'm in this weird state of burnout where I don't want to do anything. The good news is have a well paying job lined up for me when I graduate, so it's not too bad. There's not much hardcore engineering in the job which is good, cause I don't really care about it.
You get burnout, you can take a semester off and graduate a semester later. If they take off, they become irrelevant and forgotten. Their audience has moved on to other people.

It's weird that I listen to this while working on my task. This podcast even better than others. The tense when we're working on something and listening them speaking some topics with joy and fun really lower my stress at the same time.
Hearing Joey's Sydney transport story. When I was first in Sydney it was like that, but then I learned everyone used Tripview instead of the schedule. It makes a huge difference, in your Sydney transport experience. Except for when the trains inevitably break down during peak hours again.
Yeah, I expected this to be an anime podcast when I started listening to it, but I've come to love all the crazy discussions you guys have. Keep it up!
I never really liked watching youtubers talking about their personal lives for a long time but when you guys come together and talk about your experiences it just works. I am glad that this is not an anime exclusive podcast cause then there would not be any excitement that I don't know what I'm gonna get next week.
Your talk about creative/RUclips burnout was really interesting and even though I don't work in the same industry, I could still relate to that. I feel like a lot of the troubles are similar to those of a regular freelance worker as well. That feeling of not being able to unwind, the constant pressure or the existential anxiety. I hope that you, and especially Garnt, find a good work-life balance. As for Joey's comment on how it doesn't matter whether you put a lot of work into a banger video: I feel as if these banger videos actually help promoting your other videos as well. Because they're some kind of showpiece for your channel, a really high quality video that you can be proud of and that people maybe especially new people end up seeing. Maybe it's because of these banger videos, that people notice you in the first place and that they keep watching your stuff, because you mix it up every now and then. Or maybe these videos are the reason, why people watch even less time-consuming videos, because you've built up a lot of good will from your audience. Once you've established yourself as a creator, you seem like a person that people trust will value their time, so they keep watching. Then there are also, of course, the hardcore fans who will watch almost everything you put out. But before you get such fans, you first need to have put out quality content, that turns people into your fans. On the other hand, I have seen a few long-time, big creators struggle with the modern RUclips landscape and they almost always pull the algorithm card. They blame RUclips and its changing algorithm for their lack of success or for their dwindling viewership. However, what they don't notice, or maybe don't even want to realize, is that their viewership stagnates, because their content has become really, really stale or flat-out boring. Some may be doing the same stuff for half a decade or more and then wonder why they can't get more views. Meanwhile, newer creators come forth and step up their game to gain a huge audience in a relatively short time, just because they're new and fresh and not stale like some of the older creators who have become way too comfortable with their success. And I feel like these high-profile videos help to keep your content fresh and interesting to viewers, thereby helping with the views of your other videos as well. Then there's yet another aspect: Sometimes you think you have a great idea and that it's going to turn out great, but maybe your audience's taste is a bit different. It's a bit random or erratic to guess what will become successful. And it may even happen that a video goes viral for completely different reasons that you can't predict in advance. It's all really complex and I guess this randomness and lack of predictability makes being a RUclipsr or freelancer so difficult and stressful.
I'm at a point in my life where work takes priority over my old hobbies and interests. I think this podcast works so well despite not being an anime podcast because I know it's grounded in things I'm familiar with, but it expands and adds in reality. It's very refreshing to add in this side of life so I don't have to keep up with the latest thing to understand it. It's just life and everyone is working it out, and this podcast is like doing it with friends.
Okay, but seriously. No matter how many times they rearrange the figures on the table, Levi's sword is always pointing towards a certain classy lady's bum and at this point I get the feeling it's on purpose. XD

Oh. My. God. I wasn't sure if I can relate to this expirience because I am not a youtuber, but you'know, I totally can. I love translating stuff, and I noticed that if I play the game/read the novel/read the book in other languages I think "Hm, it'll be good to translate this thing into one of my natives languages" meaning to work on translating it. And sometimes it's so tiring
I always thought it was “D’s get degrees”. In Germany there’s a few similar phrases: “Bestehen ist bestehen” which means, passing is passing, and “Vier gewinnt”, which literally means “four wins”. The latter is a play off the game Connect Four which is called Vier Gewinnt in Germany and the fact that a Vier (4) is a passing grade (the equivalent of a D in the US).
I feel like it's difficult to compare Joeys'/Connor's videos to Garnt's because of the different approaches they take. For Joey and Connor, their draw is their on-screen wit and personality, the stuff the ad-lib, and the things they do. It's more straightforward for an editor to supplement that independently, I think. Meanwhile, Garnt's videos rely more on the interaction between visual clips, music, and his script. I can see why he has trouble letting go of control of the editing process because of the way his videos work. If I had to use an analogy, I'd say Garnt is more like a fine art painter while Joey and Connor are more like mangakas. Mangakas can get assistants and still produce works that can be considered their own, but if a painter gets an assistant, it rather changes the outcome of the piece. That said, I hope Garnt can find a solution that works best for him. Side note: I love both manga and fine art just as much so I do not consider it a criticism of any of the boys when I use those examples as an analogy for their respective processes. Both are beautiful for different reasons.
2:01:00 "be yourself is the core" is a great concept, but most RUclipsrs giving this advice like to simplify it down to only that and don't further explain what needs to go into that, like Connor said, "find your niche" that suits you. Trial and error. Just because you fail the first time, doesn't necessarily mean you will never succeed... ...but not like I know anything, the only things I've ever posted were projects for school LOL
What a motivational conversation! I love it when the bois are giving down-to-earth advices for aspiring youtubers. It's so on point and encouraging, since they are also quite aware how hard the competition nowadays is for new creators and how merciless the algorithm can be (not only on youtube but on any other social media platform too). Patience, endurance and passion is key + the willingness for experiments. Their talk shows that they can have that much years of experience and still try to figure things out or try to find new ways to redefine themselves.
I honestly enjoy these podcasts every week! I’m so grateful that you make them so long. Because then I can watch it throughout the week when I feel low or when I have a coffee break or a drink. The engineering girl story made me sad... as a girl who did engineering this is why we get a bad rep :/ I worked so much harder than anyone else to prove that I was actually smart...
My Uni class also had just fewer girls, and all of them started really doing their best, but halfway through the majority found out that a lot of teachers give good grades just because they were women, so they just stopped giving a fuck... it's actually a little sad...
i hope u didnt take garnt's words as something bad, like he said, there are teachers who just wanna wake up in the morning and fuck your entire day just because they want to, and that happened to be the exact day grant did his stuff

They tied the USB containing 4 GB of data to the pigeon, sent it off, it arrived at its destination 2 hours later. Meanwhile, the upload was 2% complete
“Everything in Japan is more complicated than it needs to be.” Thats living there in a nutshell. Like, some things are way simpler, but the trade off is anything that requires human contact is going to take your whole day. For no reason. I worked there for awhile.. never again.
@@KenseiAbbot They kinda talked about it in their Trash Taste about living in Japan. Signing up for things, getting stuff done, all this takes a comedically long time and process because Japan still has a lot of traditionalist approaches to things.
Kensei Abbot Basically what endershock1678 said. In a word, bureaucracy. Every nation has some of it, but Japan takes it to another level. Getting my paycheck for a part time job, for example, requires everything to be written out-my hours, what I did during those hours (down to nearly the minute if possible!!), my address, contact info (every time, mind you) and required my boss’ signature. If any of this information was mildly illegible or located in the wrong place, the ENTIRE page needed to be refilled out. Once it was okayed someone in my department would sign and it would go to the financial department where it would be checked again-and again if anything was wrong, it would need to be rewritten. Finally, once that signature was completed, it would be processed and I’d get my paycheck a few weeks later. Note as well that, as is Japanese culture, there would never be any “hey this part of the sheet is incorrect” a lot of the time they would just vaguely gesture to a location on the paper and wait for me to realize what they meant or notice my error. All of this, of course, could be mostly fixed by just digitizing the whole process. But Japan hasn’t really caught onto that and generally lives in the early 2000’s era of the internet where they are suspicious of it. Some subcultures and younger people are fine on that front, but those generally aren’t the people running companies, schools, govt. services, etc. All of this extends into social culture in general, too, imo. Tatemae and honne are endearing only for so long. The fundamental problem there is that the responsibility to “figure out” people is on your rather than on others. In the West we generally think that if you want to be understood, then it’s on you to be a clear and concise communicator. In Japan, you have to be an amazing listener and interpreter because you rarely get told anything squarely. I could write on and on, but the long and short of it is that it’s honestly an exhausting and stressful experience. Even native Japanese people have told me they agree. There are, of course, people who really take to the way things are done there, but I would not be surprised at all if the pressures and fatigue of the culture are deeply correlated with things like Japan’s high suicide rate, low birth rate, and the hikkikomori phenomenon. Every nation has its issues and I still adore Japan. Really the social culture is the only thing I’d really criticize, but it’s a big part of living there nonetheless.
Oh boy I can relate to everything you guys says, as an artist, that is. I was getting to a point where everything I see in my life pressures me to think of art but I managed to chill down a bit. Thanks for sharing your story
From an American perspective, and someone who has Huge sweet tooth, red bean paste in sweets has a subtle sweetness. It's a lot of things thick, smooth but also kinda grainy from the bean skin, it has a soft coffee flavor but also like kidney beans, it's sweetness is similar to molasses without the over tones of licorice and iron....if that makes sense. Also I'm going from memory as I haven't had authentic red bean paste in a while. So many places in the US fill it with grainy sugar that makes it real sticky ruins the flavor imo. Just mix in a simple syrup you fools!

as an artist, I can very much relate to the creative segment on how burn out is confusing to handle sometimes (I relate to garnt a lot with being a perfectionist/hands on) of the podcast and how artists are confused on how to promote themselves heck even I don't know how to do it well cause social media like instagram and twt aren't really artist friendly for promotion at all, deviant art is kinda dead? tumblr imo isn't very user friendly for me? so yeah I still don't know how to properly promote myself yet

As a Cable/Internet Guy, I can tell y’all with confidence that the reason people wouldn’t show up or tell you what was wrong with your copper wires, is because they know how bad it is and they don’t want to be the guy to fix it or put the MASSIVE amount of paperwork to start the process.

Keep it up!

Hi natsuki =)
The "RUclips is a friend simulator" thing is more true than I ever realized. So many of the people I enjoy watching are the people that help me feel like being in a casual friend group, and I think it's why I prefer channels hosted by multiple people over one person.
All of my college horror stories start with "it was a group project..."
My college life wasn't very exciting.
Can't put my finger on it why most fellow students were such dick head back then.
facts though.

*is left holding chocolate*
"-BUT, WHAT DOES THIS MEEEAN!?!"
Don't do it it's dangerous! Don't hold it then your gonna owe it to them to give them chocolate back at white day!
Came for the anime, stayed for japan and the bois stories.
I honestly enjoy these podcasts every week! I’m so grateful that you make them so long. Because then I can watch it throughout the week when I feel low or when I have a coffee break or a drink. It feels like I’m hanging out with you guys.
And it’s so fun with the variety of topics. Deep talk to passionate rants. Thank you for sharing your thoughts it’s really nice.
It’s genuinely interesting how in Japan, you can just follow random people into bars and not fear for your life
You can't do that stuff in other countries. Like, you will literally die.
@@azl5044 well not die, mabye beaten up mugged molested and a bit of forced drugging but other then that youre completely fine!
@@ciel448 As someone who watches a lot of teue crime videos, no. The chance of you dieing is high. Also even if it's not, you need to have psychic abilities to be sure you are not unlucky.
Please more RUclips talk. That’s actually what attracted me to this podcast in the first place. Your perspectives are interesting and super valuable for someone trying to make it work on the platform.
"This is the longest I've gone without flying somewhere" what a flex, I cant even go to the homies house
I feel like Abroad In Japan in the legendary kind of channel you speak of when you talk about great videos that take along time to produce.
i remember hearing an issue about internest speed in south africa. they had a test where if sending messages by PIGEON was faster than uploading in S Africa.
They tied the USB containing 4 GB of data to the pigeon, sent it off, it arrived at its destination 2 hours later. Meanwhile, the upload was 2% complete
That's...
Just sad wth
Do you have a link on that?
@@WhySoPrettyJinsoul. i am sure it has been around so long, even if i remember it also mentioned in the book about internet.
That also applies here on the Philippines
It kinda depends on your ISP tho. Some ISP's are kinda fast(like MTN) but they are way too expensive
In Aus our internet isn't much better for most people.
“Everything in Japan is more complicated than it needs to be.” Thats living there in a nutshell. Like, some things are way simpler, but the trade off is anything that requires human contact is going to take your whole day. For no reason.
I worked there for awhile.. never again.
What do you mean?
Endershock1678 Precisely this!
Makes me rethink wanting to move there! Thanks lol; I've heard (of course from trash taste too) that it was better to visit than live in Japan.
Oh boy I can relate to everything you guys says, as an artist, that is. I was getting to a point where everything I see in my life pressures me to think of art but I managed to chill down a bit.
Thanks for sharing your story
“The chocolate sucks but she put her heart into it”
Giving me Persona 4 flashbacks with Rise’s horrendously bad homemade chocolate
I see a man of culture as well
You’re talking about Rise’s but what about Marie’s in P4G like bruh that thing moves
I thought of mischievous kiss 👀👀
And then there’s Nanako’s....

Week fifteen of expressing the absolute brilliance of this podcast.
Too true, I wait for this podcast every week
The monk : “RUclips isn’t a video hosting platform
RUclips is a friendship simulator”
Bruuuh moment right there
Joey: only eat small chunks or you could choke and die
Connor: Right mate *takes goliath bite*
Joey:...
Man, I'd really like to see Pewdiepie in the Podcast, it'll be really interesting to see a seasoned veteran youtuber's opinion on this conversation about burnout, exaggeration etc. and talking about Japan with him would be cool too. Joey, if you're reading this, please try to get Pewds on the podcast.
They already said that, they gonna get pewd when he is in japan
@@DwiWagyu oh rly?? :o
I'm pretty sure gigguk started RUclips before pewdiepie
Joey said he will, but remember trash taste number 1 rule "they need to be here physically"
@@Kage-jk4pj well yeah Gigguk has been on RUclips longer, but Pewdiepie has like 100x more subscribers so I'm sure it's a very different story
as an artist, I can very much relate to the creative segment on how burn out is confusing to handle sometimes (I relate to garnt a lot with being a perfectionist/hands on) of the podcast and how artists are confused on how to promote themselves heck even I don't know how to do it well cause social media like instagram and twt aren't really artist friendly for promotion at all, deviant art is kinda dead? tumblr imo isn't very user friendly for me? so yeah I still don't know how to properly promote myself yet
Joey: Aussie boomer;
Connor: "I love food";
Garnt: Workacholic;
@Jason Lee Well it's a different type of content.
I honestly like it even more that this isn't an anime only podcast, it's diverse in topics and pretty freaking fun!!!
I swear the most passionate debates on this podcast are always about food.
Red bean paste basically feels like refried beans but like sweeter
bruh for real👏truee
Never thought of that but it's 100% the case. Give this one a medal, someone.
Red bean has the texture of refried beans and Warabimochi straight up tastes like refried beans
I like it more when they talk about their lives than anime weirdly enough. All three are just such interesting people to me.
I'm always tempted at christmas to just enter my parents house, with by siblings and whoever else happens to be there, and be like "I love all of you, merry christmas, share this amongst yourselves" and just lob a bunch of money into the living room and leave.
Whenever my aunt and uncle visits for christmas or summer, they just give every one of their niece and nephews money and that's it.
So in Korea it doesn't stop with Valentine's day and White day, nooo there's also Black day on April 14th for singles. And maaaany more couple holidays/milestones that are a bit over the top if you ask me ^^;

There's a day for singles. I've never felt so appreciated

I also feel that "I should enjoy the moment" than taking photos wherever/whatever I do. One picture is enough for me if I have to take one to commemorate it.
i take so many pictures, but none make it online...its all food or nature.
honestly you lads are so epic i can listen for hours living in the uk myself but i have no one who watches anime who i know :( its been something i loved all my life i am 29 now and have no one to talk to about anime so to come and listen to you all talk is really cool for me.
I'm not exactly a red bean paste connoisseur, but in my experience red bean paste feels like an all natural peanut butter. It tastes really good
I wish Joey would teach us something about Japanese language every episode. Something small. Popular slang, useful sentances, Japanese Memes xD. Anything
Try the Abroad in Japan podcast, where Chris deliberately teaches you maybe 3 words with sporadic frequency and maybe one or two every episode as they come up in conversation
