One time in Pokemon Ultra Moon, I was looking for a Bagon and I kept getting Slowpokes.
On the fith Slowpoke encounter, I raised my head up away from the screen, groaned, and ran away.
About a week later after finally catching a Bagon, I checked my Pokedex just for fun and realised that I have encountered a shiney Slowpoke in the past. At first I was confused, but then it hit me: the Slowpoke I looked away from was probably the shiny I missed!
This still haunts me to this day...

My first random shiny encounter was actually my first shiny (I didn’t play Johto but then went back and played it) and it was a shiny ponyta in diamond. Me and my sister were playing and we were both young so I had no idea what shinies were so my sister spent hours trying to find a pink ponyta as I thought mine was blue due to playing diamond. Gotta love childhood logic.
My 1st shiny ever (excluding the Red Gyarados) was a Rapidash in Emerald Kaizo & I found it in the Safari Zone, but I still managed to catch it. Tho I can't recall if I used savestates for it or not.

My first random shiny was a buizel but I did not know what a shiny was so I thought it was sick so I caught it and took it to Nurse Joy to heal it but then after it was still sick so I cried for an hour
I don’t think I ever personally found a random shiny, but I was watching a friend of mine playing through the Isle of Armor.
I warned them about the Sharpedo that chase you, naturally, but you have to use your boost to outrun them. It’s a bit hard to pull off, and they got attacked twice. They caught the first one for the Pokédex, of course, but then the second Sharpedo bumped into them.
And it was a shiny.
Needless to say, we both flipped, they caught it, and now they have a shiny to flex with.

Day 1 of playing Pokemon Shield, I was hanging out with some friends who were farther ahead while I was Just battling a bunch of Pokemon on the Route 1 grass; when all of a sudden, a Shiny{Square} Skwovet appeared! It was so Red, I named it the Bloodchu
I remember in Pokemon X, I got a random horde battle on the route with the daycare. One of the pokemon there was a shiny Hoppip. The next day, I had progressed a bit more and was trying to catch a luvdisc go trade for a steelix in Cyllage City, and I managed to find a shiny one
Most of my 'random shiny encounters' were 'random shiny hatchings'.
1: Back in Pokemon Y, there was a halloween event where a Super Size Pumpkaboo was distributed, and there was a tournament for ghosts where every team had to include a Super Size Gourgeist. Well, Gen 6 was when I got into competitive builds, so naturally I wanted a Pumpkaboo with good IVs. Eventually, I got a cute little purple pumpkin ghost, that I named Trixie Treat, with perfect IVs everywhere I needed...except speed. But when the game hands you a shiny, you USE IT. Bottle Caps later fixed her IV issue, but it's worth noting her HP, Attack, and Defense are all higher than my Zygarde.
2: In Alola, I was going through a list of Pokemon, figuring out what I should make next, randomly settling on Corsola. Same thing as with Trixie, eventually, out popped a little blue Coral creature.
3: I decided to host a tournament for my local Pokemon League, a lot of the same people tended to win all the time, so I got curious as to whether it was good Pokemon or good technique that was netting them the wins, so I hatched a little plan that took 7 weeks to carry out. At the end of each weekly tournament, the winner was to name a single Pokemon that could be hatched from an egg...any Pokemon at any evolutionary level, but I didn't say why. For those who are curious, the final tally was: Eelektross, Haxorus, Goodra*, Aurorus*, Tyranitar, and Octillery*. The reason? The seventh week would see us having a tournament using these six Pokemon, all with (mostly) identical stats (the non-used stat of Attack or Special Attack would vary depending on IVs, but as none of the Pokemon had an attack assigned that used their dead stat, and none of them had an attack that exploited that stat on the other team, it didn't matter), identical levels, and identical abilities (you'll note that some of those Pokemon had an asterisk near their name, those denote the ones that had their hidden abilities). So, over those 7 weeks, I bred 8-9 of each of those Pokemon with the correct nature, IV, and abilities, EV trained them, and got them to level 50 (or whatever level they last evolve at...Tyranitar...), made sure they all had the same moves in the same places, and put them into Pokemon Bank. Well, while breeding these beasties...I hatched a Shiny Amaura, which I still use (my friend HATES fighting it, because it's so cute and she hates knocking it out). Again, for those curious, it turns out superior technique WAS the deciding factor, as we had the same general winners as normal. But the breakout star of the match was Octillery, because moody made the matches unpredictable and interesting. The entry prize was obvious, everyone got to keep the team I gave them (several of them ended up getting spots in those players normal teams, and sometimes the whole team was used), and the winner got EVERY single starter, including Pikachu and Eevee, with their hidden ability.
4: Wandering around the wild area, a Kingler bumped into me, and I almost ran from it, then noticed it was the wrong color. He went into the ball, and once Isle of Armor came out, he became my new Gigantamax Kingler, replacing my non-shiny one.
5: During the Gigantamax Eevee Max Raid event, I joined in on one of the online matches...and the Eevee was shiny. Nothing more to the story really.
6: All my other shinies were either gifts, event distributions, or intentional hatches (Like my Mareep), but one of these gets a special mention: I have 18 Shiny Silvally. When the Shiny Silvally with the Gold Bottle Cap was distributed, the plan was to do what I usually do, go to Gamestop, get a bunch of cards, keep some for myself, and give the rest out at League (a lot of our leaguers were too young to get to Gamestop on their own, or lived too far away). Unfortunately, my Gamestop didn't actually get the cards until almost the last day of the event (I managed to get a couple before then though, mostly on my receipt while buying stuff. I became known up there after awhile, and when the right employee was there, could get huge stacks of codes to give out). Why 18? Well, rather than have ONE Silvally that I changed as needed, I wanted one of each type, so that each one could have it's multi-attack, a coverage move, and at least one move that would specifically counter Pokemon it was weak to (My dragon had Iron Head, for example, while my fighting type would know Crunch and a rock move, etc.) Sadly, I was ONLY able to get my 18, with none left over for League (trust me though, NOBODY missed another distribution event at my league, they got ALL the good stuff).

On the same play through of Heart Gold 9 years ago, when I didn't even fully understand how rare shinies were, I got 2 full odds random encounter shinies. 1 was my first ever shiny, Hoppip outside Union Cave (now a Jumpluff named 'SHINYHOP' sitting in my Pokemon Y cartridge). The other was a Magikarp in Dragon's Den. I was a dumb kid and evolved the Magikarp, sadly. Just as well it's easy to chain fish for one and fill the living dex slot!

...talking about the S.O.S. hunting...I have had moments where I shudder to think of the piles of dead Chansey that I leave behind when grinding a team to level 100...especially since they're some of the sweetest Pokemon around

i was finding an abra outside of goldenrod for my playthrough in heart gold.... i failed to catch a few because of teleport but..... i got a shiny.... like literally i was hesitating to throw balls at it

For the random shiny encounter, i did farm a few shinys in the past but all of my shinys from Pokemon Shield were random :
- I needed a Remoraid to complete my pokedex and the first one that i encountered was a shiny
- I wanted to have Ditto's with different natures so i use the fact that Trace (or Synchronize, i forgot) makes the wild pokemon have your nature and made a lot of Ralts. One of them was a shiny and had his hidden ability
- For my Comfey, i don't really have a story ... i just wanted to use one on my competitive team and it happen that it was shiny.
My first shiny encounter was actually my brothers first one too. We played fire red and leaf green together but he was slightly behind so I was helping him thru the berry forest. He encountered a “golden haired pidgeotto” and we were both confused. Why? We didn’t know shinies were a thing(no internet and no one else played the game that we knew/no one else was into Pokémon) and thought the game glitched and would break if we caught it. So he shut the game off and went back in searching for a regular pidgeotto to make sure the game wasn’t broken. Man does it hurt to remember this years and years later. XD

The first shiny I ever had was in my Pokemon Platinum attempt. About ten years ago. I was training my Chimchar, trying to make it evolve into a Monferno, and since I was eight and didn't know how typings worked, I was in Oreburg cave, grinding on the Geodudes and Zubats. Then suddenly, I found it. A shiny Zubat! I caught, amazed that it was a different color. I showed my mom, dad, and little brother. And then I dropped my DS, causing the game to freeze before I could save.

My first random Shiny encounter was actually in Shield. During a rainy day, I was randomly fighting wild Pokemon at the Lake of Outrage. Then, amidst the Golurks and Araquanids was a lone Drakloak. I was about to ignore it, but then I realized 'Oh wait! That's the pseudo-legend of Gen 8. Sweet!'.
Once I got into the battle, I noticed that the pinkish parts of it's body were now yellow and started freaking out when the sparkles came out. It took a while and my Gyarados almost killed it, but I eventually caught her.
That Shiny Drakloak is now a Level 💯 Shiny Dragapult named Sahbriidez, which in Skyrim's Dragon Language translates to 'Phantom Beauty Destiny'
My first full odds random shiny was a Zigzagoon in Sapphire about an hour into game. The next day I found a shiny Scarmory.
I played through the entire game with them on my team and now I have both Bandit and Icarus in my copy of shield.
I'd found shinys before but they'd never been full odds, so these two were particularly special.

My first ever Shiny was a Shiny Caterpie during the Bug-Catching-Contest in Pokémon Silver back in 1999 when I get the Game for Christmas.
I didn't know what Shinies are at this point (way before the first time encounter of the red-Gyarados) but I caught it anyways and won the Contest with it. My most "painful" accidental Shiny encounter was a Shiny Poochyena in Pokémon Ruby during the prologue before you get your first Pokéballs...

For me, it was a Shiny Beedrill in Vermillion Forest on Let’s Go! Eevee, but I tried restarting my Super Mario Odyssey game and downgrading it (before a glitch was patched in it,), but the website basically made me restart ALL my save data on ALL my games. Yep... RIP Shiny Beedrill

I've played every Pokémon game since Gen 1 and never found a shiny. Then, in Let's Go Eevee, I got joy-con drift and accidentally ran into a shiny Metapod I didn't even know was there. My next shiny was ninjask in Shield. Again, wasn't looking at the screen and almost fainted it then suddenly noticed it was a different colour.
My first shiny was a Bidoof in Y.
I was only 7, and thought a level 22 Ivysaur using Take Down wouldn't KO a level 5 Bidoof.
My first shiny I caught was a Ledyba in Sun. I just walked into the grass on route 1 before doing the 2nd battle with Hau, and boom, shiny Ledyba.
My first (and only) random shiny encounter was in Pokémon sword when I captured a shiny Dialga during a dynamax adventure, and I didn’t even know it was shiny until the game told me which Pokémon from the adventure I wanted to keep. I kept the shiny Dialga and nicknamed it emerald (my first Pokémon game)

I still have it, but it wasn't until quite an embarrassing amount of time later I realized how special it was lol
My first shiny was in Shield, it was a Mareanie. Became part of my main team.

My favorite random shiny encounter was my first play through of Pokemon Shield, I ran into a blue Shellos and it was shiny! Full odds and the first cave you enter in the game. So I named him Squishy and used him for the whole game! Satisfying and I realized what a good mon Gastrodon could be! I had never really used them before. 💙
First shiny: Linoone in Emerald, near Weather Institute and Fortree. Long since post-game, though Marmalade did do well in Contests.
Later I found a shiny Zigzagoon 45 minutes into Ruby and gave it the same name.
My first and only random shiny was Piloswine. In Sword and Shield I was just walking around in the wild area. Note that this is my first Pokémon game (don’t judge me) Then I saw a Piloswine, just put in the open not even in the tall grass. And being the newbie I was I thought “Huh, I don’t remember this Pokémon being yellow.” And then I caught it, and apparently it was a shiny. My first shiny, was just walking around in the overworld.
My first random shiny was an Aipom that ran away back in the original Gen 2. Never saw a random shiny again until a Shiinotic that popped up in Glimwood while I was filling my Living Dex
Here's my random shiny encounter story:
Idk what it is, but for some reason myself and Duskull have some strange spiritual connection. Back in 2019, when the Pokemon GO Halloween event was going down, I completed one of the Pokestop quests which rewarded me with a random encounter on my way to school. Once I finished my task, I checked the random encounter, and there was my special red duskull just mad chilling. Now, smash cut to about a month later. I recieved the gracious gift of the Sword and Shield double pack, and beat it within a week or so. From there, I was simply biking around the Wild Area, looking for Dex Entries. As I was doing so, I passed the Watchtower Ruins and accidentally ran into a Duskull. I thought nothing of it until it revealed itself to be a Mountain Dew Red Voltage Ghosty Boi.
So yeah, there's my strange Duskull Legacy. Other than that, the only other random shiny encounter was a random Rhyperior in the Isle of Armor. I wasnt even paying much attention and looked up to see a gigantic lemon with arms in front of me.

Was playing pokemon Uranium, (Fan Game) and was grinding. I was playing on nuzlocke mode so I could only catch the first encounter on a route and all but 3 of my team members died, so I started grinding out of grief. But low and behold I found 3 shinies on the same route after 7 minutes of grinding, A Mareep, a crappy bug, and a big bird
First random shiny encounter I ever got was a shiny kriketune in the big catching contest in soul silver. I was like 10 at the time and the encounter happened a step after I talked to an NPC who said “I’m just here to find rare pokemon” and I thought I found the shiny because I talked to him 😂

My first (and only) random shiny encounter was a Cherubi from a honey tree in Pokemon Platinum! Funny part was I didn't notice it was shiny, but caught it anyway.
Most of my shiny encounters were accidental. I have used cheat codes to get them(I know, I'm terrible). I think my first shiny encounter was a zubat in emerald. I think I caught it even though I didn't know what it was at the time. I didn't know about the existence of shinies until gen 4 because I had a guidebook for one of the games(can't remember which one) and it mentioned shiny pokemon.
My first random shiny was also my first shiny ever.
So I was in sword working on completing my dex to get the shiny charm, and I was at the lake of outrage, where it was raining. Whenever i would look at my tracker app on my phone, an Araquanid would run in to me. Then around the 7th one, it was a shiny! I was feeling a mix of :0 and **scared** and i master balled it because i wasn’t gonna risk it.
First shiny encounter: The year was 2006. After receiving Charlander from Prof. Oak, and beating my rival, SmellyNelly, I was casually walking through route 1 in order to go to Viridian city to get the Oak’s Parcel.
In the last patch of tall grass I had an encounter. It was a (at the time green lime) shiny ratata. I heard of them before thanks to my cousin who was a more experienced player at the time. I wanted to catch it.
The bad thing is I couldn’t catch it because you couldn’t have pokeballs after delivering the parcel.
So I cried, and killed it since it was level 4, and and level up my charmander to level 7 to learn ember.
It was sad.... But his soul wasn’t took from him in vain.
Then later on I found a shiny raticate at the Pokémon mansion in Cinabar Island. No he is part of the first y’all of fame

Floatzel in Pokemon Diamond. Didn't even notice at first. Nearly killed it lol till I noticed. Wasn't paying attention and didn't see the sparkles. My next one was graveller. Bet you can't guess what happened. Nearly stopped shiny hunting after that lol
I was playing through Sword for the first time and decided I wanted to catch all the pokes in every area to help with my Pokedex later down the line. I go into the Galar Mine 2, I get some nice things, run into a Wimpod, and it was shiny. Such a pain in the ass to hunt, too. It's now a Golisopod and named Caesar.
Fast forward seven months and I go to the Isle of Armor for the first time. Just making my way through the Training Lowlands and tripped on a shiny Miltank. And I hadn't even gotten the Charm yet. Its name is Bluebell.

My first random shiny encounter was a sandshrew in the original pokemon ruby game. I was on my way to get my fossils and decided to cut through the encounter area in the desert and bam. Shiny sandshrew. That was also my first shiny encounter ever. My kid self didnt know what to think about it at first because the only odd colored thing I saw before was red gyrados in gold (and everyone knows that was scripted). Sandshrew has become my favorite pokemon since that day
I once encountered two random shinies during a ruby nuzlocke I had been grinding for an hour to get wing attack on my zubat to beat brawly then about 3 levels before I got wing attack I found a shiny geodude. Then, 10 minutes later I found a shiny zigzagoon before the next may battle (which was literally hell for me).
My first random encounter was an oddish in emerald. I LEGIT REMEMBER HAVING TO SEARCH UP THE SHINY SO I KNEW IT WAS REAL.
My first random Shiny was in my very first play through of Ruby back in 2004, got myself a Shiny Roselia, sadly, my cartridge was stolen at school, and when I got it back (a half year later when the teacher caught the kid stealing and the parents returned all the stolen goods) he had restarted the game...
So, my first random shiny was a Zebstrika in Pokemon Black 2 while I was just mindlessly training some pokemon, and I was like "oh sh- that's a shiny!" and caught it without weakening it like the kinda smart kid I was back then; I...didn't really give it a decent name, tbh, but I still have that shiny on that save file to this day, awaiting it's reawakening in a later generation where it can finally smite all who stand in its way like the semi-ok electric horse that it is

My first random shiny:
Cloyster from a max raid, I was just learning about max raids and I wanted to get some EXP. candies and I found the cloyster in a 3 star standard raid
I have played only since the fifth Gen and from then the first shiny I accidentally got, with full odds, was a Carbink.
The most funny(and triggering for shiny hunters) story would be me, starting to breed for a perfect rockruff and getting a shiny on the 3rd egg.
Mine was a tentacle in silver on the 3ds because I was grinding my mareep into a flaffy into an ampharos
My first random encounter was when I first started playing pokémon (I didn't know what a shiny was or that they existed) I defeated the electrical gym leader and just in slave a drowzee and then a pink one aperd unlike most biginers (who just run away) I in slave that one as well 4 months later I found out that my drowzee was rare

Story Time: I was trying to complete my pokemon sword pokedex and I was munchlax hunting. I couldn't find it so i tried hatching it. When I hatched the munchlax (first egg), it was shiny. I didnt realize it was a shiny until a bit later. (I was not shiny hunting)
I got a Random Shiny Sawk during one failed Sword nuzlocke.
I named it "NotUsingThis" Because I didn't know about shiny clause and thought it would be illegal to use one.
Now I have it in my Shield and Regret the name choice.
My first random shiny encounter was when I found a shiny Audino by accidentally bumping into it while biking around the bird tree in the crown tundra and it only happened yesterday

I've had a few random shinies, more in recent times, probably just due to playing more.
My first ever was a shiny green zubat in pokemon pearl/platinum, the oreburgh gate. It died in one hit, cause I was a kid back then who didn't realize that weakening a pokemon with damage was optional to catch it. I was also using a prinplup.
My next random shiny came years later, with a shiny goldeen in pokemon sun. The first fishing spot in the malie garden, and the first goldeen I caught in that game. I only noticed because of the effect. Shiny goldeen barely changes.
Since then I've had a lot more random shinies, but depending on the game I don't really count them. Like shinies in Let's Go when I'm chaining to grind candies, or in GO during community day. Though there are 3 full random shinies in GO, being Swablu, Alolan Raichu, and Beldum.
The accidental shiny encounter ones; I can't even get intentional shinies
my first random shiny was a slowpoke in the tohjo falls in Heart gold. i was on a bus ride home from school and playing my playthrough, and then when i got my first encounter in the falls, it was a shiny slowpoke and on the inside, i freaked out! it was awesome!
I actually had to use a master ball on a pidgey once.
I had just completed the Pokédex In let’s go and and I just left the game freak HQ with the shiny charm. Then The second I leave the city the first thing I see is a shiny Pidgey. I then proceeded to engage it in battle when I realized “oh wait I only have my master ball.” Hence I caught a shiny pidgey with a master ball. So there is validity in your argument, Pat
To be fair, that pidgey could've been a shiny with whirlwind to end the battle instantly.
