The pros and cons to both make it such a stressful decision - and the purpose of each piece of equipment does make a difference! Thanks for the breakdown
You’re very welcome! 😄
Hair still lookin' good, girl... Good content 😊
Hehe why thank you, Dorothy!! 💗
🔥
Excellent and well explained video, Glowstick! Such a great topic! Like most hikers, I also have both; An Aegis Max Down and a Big Agnes synthetic. I love both and most importantly, they both fix. It's almost shocking how many of both I had to try before making those purchases. Choosing your big three can be TOUGH!!!
Thank you so much, Paladin! I agree - choosing your big 3 can def be tough! I did so much research before I pulled the trigger on the big 3 I have now, but I love them! Are those pieces you mention both sleeping bags? If so, when do you bring the synthetic one instead of the down?
Thank you for explaining the pros vs cons of each!!! You’re awesome!!🥾🥾⛺️
You’re very welcome! Your start date must be coming soon yes?

Yes it is! February 28th!🥾🥾⛺️
@@HikingWithWhiskers So exciting!! You all ready?

We are as ready as we’re gonna be!! Gear, logistics all the way from Colorado to trail! A fellow RUclipsr is picking us up at airport in Atlanta & taking us to lodge! We are taking it easy (single digit miles) for first week.
All we are planning is the first resupply at Neels Gap. After that we will let the trail & our bodies decide our pace! Happy Hippie & have really enjoyed your channel as we have prepared for this adventure! You’ve been a great “mentor” for us, and you live in Colorado!! What a great place to prepare! Your feedback & continued support as we hike will be greatly appreciated!! 🥾🥾⛺️
@@HikingWithWhiskers So awesome! I’m so excited for you guys! I’ve subscribed to your channel and I will definitely be following along. 😄 Remind me where in Colorado y’all are based?
Yep, I’m going synthetic, all the way. I’m going w/ an Enlightened Equipment 20degree bag. & I’m going w/ the synthetic Fjallraven X-Latt hoodie.
Nice!! I’d be curious what you think of the EE bag!
I'm going on the AT thru hike this March. I'm going with Hammock Camping, using a Down Over Quilt and Sythetic Under quilt. I tested the combination this weekend in Florida where it was 21 degrees and I stayed toasty warm. Thanks for this information!
21 degrees in Florida?! Is that normal?! Haha. What made you get one of each type? And you’re welcome! So exciting about your upcoming thru!
@@AudreyAdventures I got a synthetic underquilt incase I see any rain, I didn't want anything to damage it. I got the down over quilt because it's much lighter and much warmer IMO.
@@AudreyAdventures also no, it's the coldest day we have had in Florida for the last 10 years, so not quite normal, but also not unheard of I guess
@@kitarikitsuga Oh gotcha - that makes sense! I went down to Florida one year for spring break when I was in college. All I brought was beach attire because I expected it to be sunny and warm the entire week. It was in the 40s and gloomy until like the very last day I was there. Heartbreaking. 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway stay warm out there (which it sounds like you are!).
I use both synthetic and down for my puffy. I love both for different reasons. I also have synthetic and down sleeping bags and I'm awaiting arrival of my UGQ Bandit quilt. Again I'll use the down bag or synthetic bag depending on intended use.
Makes sense! I also have two puffies and three sleeping bags but the puffies are both synthetic and the sleeping bags are all down haha.
@@AudreyAdventures I'm a gear junkie. I just keep buying lol hence the UGQ quilt. I'm looking at the Outdoor Vitals new puffy and Hoody. Lol
@@robmcdade1608 Hahaha nothing wrong with that! 😜
I do a similar split - my puffy is synthetic and my quilt/bag are both down.
Nice! Which puffy/ sleeping bag do you have? (I am always just curious what gear other people use haha).
🙏🏼
I’m allergic to down so it’s synthetic all the way for me!
LOL what aren’t you allergic to?! 😜
Down bag and synthetic puffy. I have seen a few hikers over the years waking up with puffy eyes due to the down bag they were sleeping in. But not this guy!!!
I learned on the AT that I’m allergic to pine… by waking up with VERY swollen eyes every time I slept in a pine forest. 😜 Also allergic to dust, grass, trees, tumbleweed… so forgoing the down won’t help me, I’m afraid. 😂
@@AudreyAdventures Oh no!!!!!
@@stanthemanhikes2965 Haha it is what it is. It's not gonna stop me. ;)
