Mid Engine V8 goodness doesn't get much better than this, so I bought one. I eventually sold it, though, it just didn't have enough "soul". One minor correction, the base model is targa, there is a convertible model you have to pay extra for.

The design criticism is off the mark. A Corvette should never be 'beautifully elegant'....that's not the brief. This aint a Maserati. They nailed it - mechanically, and aesthetically. The Z06 will be even more jaw dropping. Other than that....great review.

I have looked at countless reviews of the C8 and this is the first one to have complained about the styling. Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but on that score you are convincingly outvoted. The Z06 - due in late 2023, does address the points you have made however but whether they are essential is a matter for conjecture. The Z06 also comes complete with real teeth, engine wise, and clearly will make the Euros look even more ridiculously over priced.

  • @ALB2073

The C8 LT2 spec retails for USD68,000. I'm sure GM's Australian dealerships buy it at a much lower factory pricing. But as a like for like comparison using an exchange rate of 0.7 the 68k is about AUD97k. The list price in AU before on road costs is AUD145,000. LCT & GST make up $26400. So you are paying at a minimum 20k more than you should. Shipping alone is no where near this expensive and don't forget that these calcs are based on retail price not on what the AU dealer is actually paying. 20k Australia tax, thanks GM!

Per your comments on the looks, I think a lot of those "issues" will be dealt with nicely in the Z06 and beyond models. The wheel wells will fill up better and the car will sit lower. The side panels are handled differently and look better in the Z06. IMO (and the opinion of most people) it is a handsome car, except for the backside. Maybe a mid-model refresh could help that out.

So, the bread and butter 'brakes' are actually brake by wire, hence why you can adjust the brake feel. Would I have one? Sure would. Once you've had a mid engine car or two it's hard to go back.! Don't like my chances of securing a build slot or coming up with the $170 needed for drive away final price.

Realistically you’re not gonna pick one of these up for less than 170k. And we probably won’t have the full option list that the U.S. has. I can’t justify that price for a car that starts at 59k in America and even cheaper in Canada. Especially with the z06 model not far off production in America.

You want a mid engined V8 with 500hp, a dual clutch auto, available magnetic suspension, that interior, looks like this and a targa top (which is standard, despite what this video says) for the price of a Mustang?
