  • Volvo Penta KAMD 300 Diesel Engine Repair. This engine had an cooler gasket failure which dumped the engine oil into the hull of the Jeanneau Prestige 32 power boat. The engine was starved of oil & cylinders 1 & 6 picked up and seized the engine. Watch the video to see how we repaired it.

    A mistake I've noticed... Brand-new Liner and Piston assemblies should always be separated and the liner walls thoroughly cleaned due to honing fine grits left over in honed grooves, also at the same time the piston ring positions should be rechecked and repositioned.. It's a standard Volvo and Caterpillar engine rebuild standard(s) ... All in all your courage and passion are admired ... Kiwis are watch🤣🤣

    Wow. What a work! I wish you guys were here in the north of Norway. With that quality of work all the fishermen would come to repair their engines to you. I would be among the first ones.

    I've got to work on one of these that has a massive turbo fitted. My friend thought it only had 3 cylinders. When I first saw it in the boat only three cylinders were visible with the front part of the rear deck up. I crouched down and started counting cylinders. "Three, four, five, six, mahoosive turbo." You should have seen the look on his face.

    Valveclearance is done wrong.
    Follow info from VolvoPenta.
    Many diesel engines with 4 valve per cylinder has a oak over pair of valves.
    These must be leveld so when rockerarm hits oak it opens both valves at the same time. No feelergauge needed here ,just leveling.
    The 0,40 mm is set by adjusting the rockerarm set screw on top of the lifterrods.

    If You're using those piston kits from SLP it's smart to reinstall the pistons because sometimes they manage to fuck up the ring positioning.

      Thanks for the advise, the boat is running a dream and my friend is happy, the other engine seems to be having a few health issues, the oil pressure is much lower that this one. I didn't buy the parts so not sure where they from. Thanks for watching and commenting

      @@melsmotors There might be a leaking oil injector or simply bad bearings. Changing camshaft ones on this engine is a nightmare. Otherwise these are pretty bulletproof.

      What has your experience been - the ring gaps are lined up?...or the first and second rings are mixed up?...or rings on upside down?

      Yeah, the gaps were lined up, I started to check all of them from thay point and saw a few that were close to being in line.@@Check321-t3t

    Having spent all that money on new pistons etc I think Id have asked you to check the crankshaft too. Any reason why you wouldnt bother?

    Muy importante. Por seguridad, quando se levanta un motor con el Toro o carretilla elevadora es importante poner un sargento o pinza de presion a la punta de los cuernos, para asegurar que la cadena no resbale y pueda caer el motor.
    Aunque se le de inclinacion a la torreta para atras, el mismo peso del motor puede hacer que una pequeña perdida del hidraulico la incline hacia delante y pueda caer el motor.

      yes, some forklifts have a hole in the tip or the fork so you can put a bolt in it to keep the chain from slipping and get someone killed

    Unfortunately, as I see it, you did it wrong! The new liners with the pistons have not been oiled!! The piston must not be moved without oil.

      Thanks for your input, but your talking nonsense. The job of the piston rings is to create compression and scrape away oil with oil control ring! You put oil in the liner, push the piston and this will scrape away all the oil, rendering the added oil useless! If I was fitting the pistons into the liner then yes I would use oil to aid in assembly. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊👍

      Il n'y avait pas d'eau de mer dans le puisard ! Il n'y avait pas d'eau dans le carter, peut-être de l'antigel après avoir retiré la culasse du joint !

      the customer bought the parts direct from the manufacturer who makes it for Volvo. I believe it was Keypart Ltd in Kings Langley. It wasn't cheap so prepare yourself 😉

    job without any measurements taken. Liner protrusion with engine block hasnt taken,piston rings positioning hasnt taken ,conrod bushings hasnt taken...etc looks like Ikea job

    Bonsoir je suis sur le point d'acheter un antares805 moteur tamd41 b jusqu'à 2 mille 500 tours tout va bien au delà 3000 tours grosse fumée noire huile qui sort par l'échappement dès que l'on réduit les gaz tout redevient normal merci de votre aide cordialement Chris

    So go then I've know volvo penta for over 30 years and a well renound engines why did it not have a sump drain plug and you didn't say why those two pistons were fxxxed

      The oil cooler failed dumping the oil into the hull, another mechanic repaired the cooler issue in situ, it went on for a while until it failed. There's no drain plug because you can't get to it in a hull, you have to warm the engine up and suck the warm runny oil out! 🙂👍

      Some oilcoolers on KAD 42,43,44,300 has a boken guideplate that stops cooling oil. If you run the engine at high load, meassure oil temp. Oilpressure runs low on gauges under 2 bar, pistoncooling does not work and trouble comes.
      Open oilcoolers every 8 to 10 year.
