'Give me Chocolate' is a very "happy" song, 'karate' is more "serious", but songs like 'akatsuki', 'road of resistance' or 'rondo of nightmare' surely will give you a better idea of the real metal potential of Babymetal. Try some of that songs in their live version, please. The first impression with Babymetal always is something like WTF.
"Why do I like this?" There is an easy answer: Because it's good! "People / group / band?" I tend to call them Metal Performance Group. I think this fits best. Why have they songs like "Gimme Chocolate"? Because it's fun. There is enough negativity (blood, gore, violence, despair, etc.) in metal for ages now. No one really needs another band singing about rage, revenge, crime, and such. BABYMETAL concentrates on positive things. They try to encourage you. To bring enjoyment to you. They have songs about various aspects of life (naturally at the moment more the ones younger people can relate to). And they have songs that are outright fun. You will also determine (if you are willing to continue this voyage) that they are very diverse when it comes to sound and genre-mixing. They are constantly pushing the boundaries! As an old metalhead (hearing metal since the mid-eighties) I have to say, that I got more and more bored by this genre. I nearly dismissed it years ago aside from hearing my good ol staples. And then, three years ago, I found BABYMETAL... And I will join the choir of the ones who say: "Watch their live stuff!". It must sound like a broken record to you, but we talk about a band that has won several "Best Live Act"-awards (from metal-/rock magazines like "Metal Hammer") over the years. Others already have suggested to you their fabulous "Road of Resistance" video (-> ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html live at the Saitama Super Arena in 2015). I want to add another suggestion for the start. It's the last song of their festival gig they did in the UK back in 2014. This was the third gig of their first world tour. Their first really big audience abroad in the west. Aside from few hundred early fans in the nobody knew them: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (= Bullying, Don't do it, No more) live at the Sonisphere 2014 in the UK -> --ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
Glad you enjoyed this one more! Starting with Gimme Chocolate can usually be a big hit or miss with alot of people, but you made a good choice going for Karate as you second. :) I would suggest you try out 'Road of Resistance' as your third one, this one also has alot of crowd interaction and gives you an idea of just how much Babymetal fans love these three little girls! I'll drop a link for you here. ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html
I'm glad he started with Gimme Chocolate. It's really boring when people start with Road Of Resistance. The whole fun of the reactions are the WTF moments :)
I want to listen to your reactions. As with most reactions you present a unique point of view and I luv seeing bands thru anothers perspective.. but.. and i'm sure you have seen in other comments.. babymetal are a 'live' band.. forget the vids unless they are 'live'. They are just sooooo amazing live and that is their whole premise. They are a production.. not just a band.. the girls, the awesome band, the backing tracks, the choreography, the effects, the monstrously stupendous stages and the song writing that is absolutely killer and aimed at stadium performances. The girls were trained and picked while they were like 8 yrs old.. They have invented an entirely new genre of metal.. kawai metal.. it goes on and on....
I really think you will not get it perfectly until you see a live performance. "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" will clear any doubts you have on why they are touring with legends and why they won international Best Live awards a few times. Their crowds are crazy, the crowd participation is on Slipknot levels and the theatrics are on Rammstein levels. All of this put together makes seeing them live one of the single best things you can do in your life. I'm not even kidding. I saw Slipknot quite a few times, Rammstein twice and I would rather go to a BABYMETAL concert anyday. That's the best way to do cardio :D.
Good reaction. I followed the same path as you so far. I've been a metalhead for nearly 30 years. RUclips suggested "Gimme Chocolate" to me in late 2018. I had the WTF reaction but was intrigued enough to try another video. Then I watched "Karate" and liked it more. "Karate" is from their second album, while "Gimme Chocolate" is from their first. It's a more mature and serious song, but still has some of the same WTF elements: the "seya soya" parts with the younger girls' voices still take some getting used for some metalheads. The Babymetal song that got me hooked was my third, "Road of Resistance (Live in Japan)". It's got an Iron Maiden/Dragonforce power metal anthem style and the guitar parts were written by and performed in studio by Herman Li and Sam Totman. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite bands and I like Dragonforce too. That, combined with the stage production, the live performance, and the crowd control and interaction commanded by the girls, is what finally won me over. Here's a link to "Road of Resistance (Live in Japan)": ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html I'd also recommend "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" at Sonisphere in 2014 (ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html) and a couple of solos with the lead singer, SU-METAL: "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischiefs of the Gods intro (ruclips.net/video/QxYAcIyk2Co/видео.html), in which each of the musicians get a spotlight, and Akatsuki (ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html), both performed at Budokan in 2014.
Babymetal are at their best live, although Karate is a great official video. I've loved Metal for the past 44 years, ever since I saw Sabbath live in 1976, and the most Metal thing I've probably seen is Babymetal's song Death, as it was performed on Su's 16th birthday. That particular performance will lay to rest any doubts you may have about whether Babymetal are Metal or not - but you may say WTF? quite a lot during it! - ruclips.net/video/pg14Gm7MywE/видео.html . Or try their first UK appearance, aged 16 and 15, in front of 65,000 Metal fans who were waiting for Metallica to come on stage at Sonisphere - ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html . Or even their superb closing song in front of 20,000 in Japan - Road of Resistance (voted best metal song 2015 at Loudwire Music awards and written for them by Dragonforce) - ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html .
Another good, honest reaction and thanks for trying another Babymetal song. One more song and I think we'll have you wanting to hear everything they have done. You still haven't heard Su-metal singing live yet - her vocals are overly compressed and processed in the studio recordings (the video for 'Gimme Chocolate' used the studio audio) and her natural voice is so much better without all that. Even the live videos, although they are much better, don't do her full justice - you would have to go and see them for yourself to really get how good she is (trust me, I found that out for myself). The whole idea for Babymetal and fusing metal with Jpop style aesthetics and vocals only happened because of her voice and talents. Their producer saw her singing with her previous Jpop trio when she was about 10 and, as a lifelong metalhead, he was struck by her power and the thought came to him that she could front a metal band and not be drowned out by the instruments. They are supported in all live shows since early 2014 (and for a couple of festivals and the encores in a couple of bigger shows before then) by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians. One of them said that when they first played with Babymetal it was the only time he was ever told "Don't hold back because they are Idols. Don't hold back because they are girls. Play as hard and loud as you can." Everything you read in the comments before is true, Babymetal have many supporters among the metal community. They have not only opened for and toured with some of the best, some of those bands have even made a point of going to watch Babymetal's sets at festivals where they were also appearing. If you do 'Road of Resistance' and it reminds you of a DragonForce song that will be because Herman Li and Sam Totman wrote the guitar arrangements for that song (and played on the studio recording). But Babymetal do all different styles of metal - one of their songs ('Tales of the Destinies' was proclaimed as full on prog metal by Mike Portnoy once of Dream Theater. I'm looking forward to your next reaction and from there to seeing you fall into the fox hole with the rest of us.
Glad to see you kept an open mind and checked out another one and Karate is a good choice mv or live . Theres not many bands who you can say live is better and being there is a whole new experience. My hook to the Band was Su's vocals . musics great and choreography outstanding But her voice is fantastic she is 17 in this video i believe. She is 22 now and has only got better . The whole thing the girls and band just works . Did say the song will stick in your head . Lots of surrgestions Road of Resistance is the OMG one to watch our Rondo of Nightmare with mischief of Gods intro. To see a Su solo with an intro from the Band . Enjoy your journey down the foxhole look forward to the next reaction . 🤟😷🤟
I can understand the voice thing so well XD Gimme Chocolate is really most extreme song in that aspect. But you need to know they were really young in the first album (they recorded between 2010-2014 when Yui and Moa were 10-14 years, Suzuka is two years older). So they were 14-16 when the album released. That is when they start playing overseas and gain MASSIVE fanbase. And they were not internet phenomenon but made a name through playing festivals and became a internet sensation after first festival tour. They are very hard workers and I feel like this is band that can get people who listen to every other genre into metal because they combine metal with so many other genres. Also they are just extreme fun to watch and they brighten your day ^-^ But if you want more serious metal from Japan I highly recommend Dir en grey again. Song Vinushka (unrestricted pv version) Thank you for giving them another listen! And good luck with the earworm ;D
Their Japan shows are insane, but to show you the power they have as a world-class act, in 2014 they went to Sonisphere in the UK and stole the hearts and minds of the most hardened metal-heads. BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL)
Nice react, next should be Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Here is a fun fact. When Metalica plays with Baby Metal at festivals they get the girls to sing and dance Gimme Chocolate with them back stage between acts.
Awesome reaction dude! Everybody has been in the same boat as you man. I completely dismissed my friend when he initially introduced to this band and even made fun of him until one day in his truck he had one of their songs kinda playing in the background and when the song ended I was just like "damn, that song rocked!". Since then I was hooked. That song was "amore" but I highly recommend the next one you check out is "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan". Their live performances are amazing and this one doesn't disappoint.
RUclips suggested "Gimme Chocolate" randomly to me a month ago. I was like you, "wtf?" Then out of curiosity, I also checked out "Karate" next. This time I was intrigued. "Road to Resistance" live in Japan (official) sold me completely on them. They are a great live act.. high energy, heavy riffs, and they get the crowd going. Just got to remember, they started in their early teens, and basically maturing in front of our eyes with each new song they do.
Karate live at Glastonbury was the 1st babymetal video i ever saw/heard. It blew my mind so bad i think i watched it like, 10 times that day. Been a huge fan since. Like the band? Catch Rondo of Nightmare with Mischief of Gods intro. Another mind blowing one .... esp for the band :)
Dude, what is Your preference in Metal? I'll bet Babymetal has a song for you. Old school Thrash? How about some djent or ska? Black, Viking, Folk..etc. Pick a genre and "The One" will answer with the appropriate song. Hell, they even mix in other genres like EDM, Dubstep, Rap, Reggae and Swing Jazz or straight up Speed Metal. They even Crucified the Lead Singer for her 16th Birthday....how did you spend yours?? Soo much more for you to see...but I'll also put in my bid for "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" for your next reaction!! (guitar arrangements by Herman Li and Sam Totman of "Dragon Force") ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
I’m glad you’re back. If you want to see 20,000 people rocking out with you I suggest Road of Resistance official live by them. After that you can graduate to Death Legend 1997 live... probably the most metal Sh** I’ve seen no lie . We’ll see you on the next one 🤘🤘
Awesome to see you give them another chance. But yes, your next reaction should be 'Road of Resistance: Live in Japan'. Be warned...they have a tendency to get into your soul after the third song. Looking forward to it! 🤘🦊🦊🦊🤘
Great reaction! Babymetal is a live band... Like others said the first reaction to them is a BIG WTF! more if you listen Gimme Chocolate for the first time, but if you listen Gimme Chocolate live you gonna change your mind, i am sure! like many request Babymetal Road of Resistance live in Japan is a good choice for your third reaction to Babymetal because that video show´s the "Magic" of this band in his form more pure... i subscribe hope to see more Babymetal!
Oh man, can't wait to see you reacting on Road Of Resistance, Babymetal Death, Rondo Of Nightmare (with intro), Sis. Anger, or Akatsuki; those are some of my favorites...
thanks bro. band maid is a full band with all girls playing instrument with 5 member they are japanese hard ass kicking hard rock band and try road of resistance of baby metal thanks again bro
As my fellow members on The One have said, your next port of call should be Road of Resistance. After that, Babymetal Death (Legend 1997) or Headbanger (legend 1997) should seal the deal. If you aren’t in the foxhole by then, you probably never will be. Also, always read the comments below from Rick Wagner and Grington300 below. The alpha and omega of Babymetal fandom, custodians of BM lore, and I suspect, agents for the Fox God himself.
I like your reaction... whether you end up a fan or not. I haven’t been a Babymetal fan for long and now I’m learning Japanese just for the heck of it. They can be really addictive. That’s a warning, bruh. There have been a lot of recommendations for Road of Resistance, and it’s a great song performed in a spectacular setting... can’t go wrong with picking this for a third reaction. But I’m going to suggest another live track and that’s Ijime, Dame, Zettai from Sonisphere 2014. It was performed in front of an audience who hadn’t heard much, if anything, from them beforehand. So I think it’s a good pick here too. ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
Karate after his reaction to GC? MV too? Cmon guys, you are better than this :) If GC doesn't work, then we should find another song with different structure/fell. Not GC 2.0 lol. Anyway, thanks for the reaction. I'm glad you didn't give up after your first video! :) You should react to RoR / Rondo / IDZ sonisphere / Pa pa ya / akatsuki i think. I'm sure other great kitsunes already link it to you!
Loved your honest reactions, they are the best. What I found out with you as well as others, but with you it is clear, is that everyone has the WTF moment. And for some reason, we are curious. Then we open a whole truckload of things this band can do has done and will do, and we absolutely can not decipher what style, what are these girls about deep down, until you go to the Sakura Gakuin road of course which enlights us a bit about their history and how this band came to be. You also have to know that when they started, the music used to be pre-recorded with a fake band not really playing, but they looked like they were playing (think Gimme Chocolate). Then came in the Kami-Band which is a real band, so that used to be half of their live show with Kami and half with the skeletons, way back in 2013-2014, until it became full Kami-band and world tour. So of course they have some of the audio stems are playing like synth lines or piano, but the rest is live playing. Some backing vocals pre-recorded sometimes also. I mean, most of the bands do this anyways. I do hope you get to Road of Resistance, and maybe to something very recent too. So yes, live they are pitch accurate, they dance all the time, the band is absolutely great, and the stage layout is always amazing. Good luck!
This song is actually one of my favorite baby metal songs (if not my favorite). Gimme chocolate really does grow on you. Basically BABYMETAL is on my workout playlist haha.
Dude, go straight headfirst for the foxhole, BABYMETAL - DEATH Legend 1997 Its Su, the lead singers 16th birthday party and on the other, darker, end of the WTF scale. Kitsune up!
Another brilliant reaction! This band takes you through multiple emotional stages. I can see the conflict happening between your mind and your heart. You heart is saying "this is awesome," and your mind is saying "this should not be." It is so different/unique that it's hard for the brain to process. Two things that should never have been molded together ( Jpop and Metal) have been fused into a sound that is completely new. BABYMETAL created their own genre of music. At first it was called Kawaii Metal ( Kawaii mean "cute" in Japanese). A fusion between Jpop and Heavy Metal. Over the past 10 years, as the band had continued to refine the sound of their music. It has recently been a message of the band's to now identify the genre only as BABYMETAL. They have become their own genre of music. I do hope you continue on this journey. You have seen NOTHING yet. Every single song they have will be unique and surprise you. HAVE FUN!
You are going to get (and probably have been) pounded by requests...and I do hope you keep checking them out. They cover alot of ground and musical styles within their music. New subscriber here!
after 4 songs I was totally hooked! I love metal from the 80's, 90's and a few from the 2000's but after 2010 I don't like any band but Babymetal was a breath of fresh air to the scence. At first I was WTF too but it's kinda addictive, some songs you will be like mmm neh this is not for me and then that same song becomes your favorite, crazy huh?
I liked your reaction man I think you're warming up to their sound. U really should check out Road Of Resistance Live in Japan Official, Akatsuki Live at Budokan, Rondo of Nightmare (with mischiefs of God intro)Live at Budokan, Ijime Dame Zettai Live at Sonisphere, Distortion Live at Rock am ring, Catch me if you can Live at Makuhari Messe and Headbanger live at Makuhari Messe. U won't regret it!
Buongiorno!!
Thank you for giving them another chance so quickly! I wouldn't be surprised if during the next one or two days you'd think "Hm, I think I have to listen to that Karate song again, it's still in my head". By the third chorus it tends to have made its way into peoples brains and linger there. To round it off, you should watch a live show. Road of Resistance has been recommended a lot, and it's a great choice. It's heavy, and the live performance is phenomenal. As I said in my comment to your previous video, I don't think you will become a fan, but I'm sure it will give you a different image of the band.
You are not wrong at all. Gimme Chocolate was also my first Babymetal song and still to this day (after I've listened to all of their albums multiple times) is still my least favorite of them all. For the next step I will really recommend you Road to Resistance or Megitsune.
Yeah Gimme Chocolate is kind of the song to get Jpop people into metal, not the other way around. You could tell Su Metal got you when she started hitting those higher notes. In the last 10 years Su Metal especially has gotten stronger with her singing, she has got serious skills. (3 songs seems to be a thing with Babymetal. Listen to 3 of their songs and either your a fan or not)
BABYMETAL has really evolved since they started in 2010. They seem to have invented a new genre which I refer to as "pop metal" that creates a unique contrast of styles. Their early songs like Gimme Chocolate (about eating chocolate), Catch Me If You Can (about playing hide and seek) and Doki Doki Morning (about having to get up in the morning) may not seem very deep but the band started when these girls were 10 and 12 years old so the subject matter is age appropriate. I would recommend Road of Resistance (a live video titled "BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL)" at "ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html") as your next reaction, the girls are a little older and take on what sounds like an anthem (I haven't yet seen a translation for this song). They now have a permanent backup band as well (no more of those silly skeleton suits to hide the fact that the band changes from gig to gig). BTW - You should also try (react to) the live version of Catch Me If You Can (titled "BABYMETAL - Catch Me If You Can「かくれんぼ」Full Live compilation" at "ruclips.net/video/H_yATzyi-3g/видео.html") with the new band, you'll know them by the white robes and white face (kabuki?) makeup. The beginning of this video features each member of the new band showing off a little before the girls take the stage.
I'd just like to add that this video is like a mini martial arts movie with BABYMETAL fighting the three "enemies" in white robes and masks, suffering a minor defeat in the second act, banding together to fight as a team and come back stronger in the third act and finally defeating the enemy at the end only to reveal that the enemy is themselves (very zen if you read eastern philosophy).
Babymetal has everything I love about metal, the heavy guitars, the double kick drums and the high energy, but none of what I hate about conventional metal, the fake, toxic masculinity and and stupid, childish machismo.
I can't imagine how anybody can describe metal in those terms. Like metal was a constant reenaction of Manowar's perplexing *1988* song Pleasure Slave, or something.
Masculinity is not toxic. All that stuff has it's place. The problem is that everybody is doing exactly the same things. It's become orthodox. Babymetal breaks out of the rut that Metal has become stuck in. Plus of course they do so many different things at a very high level that it's not even realistic. They should not exist.
@@Jordan-Ramses If there was ever a genre of music that desperately needed to be kicked in the nards and dragged kicking and screaming out of it's comfort zone, it was heavy metal. Bless their crinoline skirts.
After your Give Me Chocolate reaction I said that you'd be on board in three more songs. I'm now revising that prediction & say it's only going to take one live performance reaction and you'll be hooked. As far as BAND-MAID, Yes!! That's when I subscribe.
Yay- Babymetal will give you a BIG variety of styles. I guess that will be an awesome journey, like it was to us all. Karate is about fighting inner demons, thats why they faced themselves behind the masks. And Suzukas voice and stage presence are almost unearthly. Noticed Moas smile before she caught the fly? That's exactly how she is in real life. All three are just charming.
me glad you going forward into the Fox Hole of Babymetal Universe , this place is really really bright place. to me the best part of Babymetal is Su-Metal , Yui Metal and Moa Metal are really good J-Pop singer , they stick to it and not trying to be metal singers. Live Babymetal is when these girls really show you what they can do.
Great and honest reaction, thanks! Oh, and also thanks for the mention! This is exactly the type of reaction we like. Watching you fighting against yourself and your preconceived ideas (just like this song's meaning: fighting your inner demons). I know that feeling pretty well, being an old-school hardcore metalhead. The key, as it has already been said, is open your mind. You are already in musically and that was the easy part because the band is very, very good (top level I'd say). Now it's the time to left any prejudice behind to really appreciate the whole composition. So you need to need to check some live performances and apart of Road of Resistance (live in Japan) that I suggested you yesterday, may I suggest you Akatsuki (Live at Budokan Black Night): ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html Enjoy!
Thanks for keeping an open mind and giving them another chance. It's okay not to like them, not everyone is going to. But I think what makes Babymetal special is that they have such a diverse repertoire of music, there really is something for everyone, no matter your tastes. I have a feeling the song you will like the most is BABYMETAL - Rondo Of Nightmare (With Mischiefs of God Intro) live at Budokan. The 2 younger ones aren't in this song and the whole first half is just a solo of the band, aka the Kami Band or God Band aka the Gods of Metal. ruclips.net/video/QxYAcIyk2Co/видео.html
I was curious about what "Rondo" Of Nightmare meant..I think too much maybe?( I annoyed a lot of my teachers.🤭). .So I looked it up.. The way the song is composed/performed it makes since..Useless trivia I know.. Definition of rondo 1 : an instrumental composition typically with a refrain recurring four times in the tonic and with three couplets in contrasting keys 2 : the musical form of a rondo used especially for a movement in a concerto or sonata
I would agree with this suggestion mainly because you keep saying how much you love the band. The intro is a good representation of the quality of the band, and helps to show Su's Vocal talents. You could also go with Kevin's suggestion of Ijime Dame Zattai from the Sonisphere 2014. Road of Resistance is still good, but let us know what you want and we'll find it for you, just check out Watcher2554's comments for possible styles if you're interested.
Well, Babymetal are not the "usual metal band". There´s a lot of differences who can maybe be cause some rejection and others who make things even a little more difficult. Two disclaimers here: English are not my native language, so must be some misspellings here and there and things like this. The other is that i´m gonna try to do a dispassionate analisys. This can be see sometimes like criticism, but no. Babymetal are not a "metal band". They are a product from a record label. A very good one. fantastically produced, crafted and polished but they are "a product" and a lot of products who are made in this way are bad products where only sales are important over quality. That is not the case here. The producer of Babymetal is a metalhead himself, a hardcore one fan of X-Japan. Also when japanese want to do a product, they do a good one. The musicians who back the band from years ago, the "Kami Band" are all of them top notch, incredibly talented. Composers, lyrics writers, and even choreographer are second to none. The record label put a lot of money and they look for the best. The main singer have a long trajectory, an incredible voice and the other girls are trained professionals from a very young age. Quality are not the issue here. Another problem are precisely the age of the girls. They start in Babymetal at a very young age. Some videos of them from the time Babymetal starts and they were still in "Sakura Gakuin" (a japanese idol program) shows very small girls. Not "young"... just small childs. Yui was so small that she sit in an school chair and her feets don´t touch the floor. Now there only two of them (this is another story) but Suzuka the singer is now 22 years old, and Moa is 20 years old. Of course along those 10 years there´s a lot of changes. Voice get better, styles changes... some of the latest songs are really a lot more harder. Also Babymetal don´t have really a "style". Of course they have something like an own style, but not in the common way that metal is classified. They do from power metal to viking, death, mixed with disco music, rap, pop and a lot more. They are very experimental looking for the boundaries of metal. This can be annoying for some purist. Also their songs are frequently more optimistic and fun that any other metal group but there´s really no rule in metal about this. And maybe the songs you choose are not really the best from them. They are definitely the most popular, but those songs are really "simple" and poppy to catch the public attention. They have songs a lot more complex and in my humble opinion a lot better. Maybe Akatsuki or Rondo of Nightmare are really a good ones to see the voice of the singer. Oh, and the music videos are fine, but where Babymetal shines best are in live performances. In "Give me Choco" they don´t have a back band, they join shortly after this (musicians are fake in this song). The kami band live are something outstanding And yes, Babymetal broke a lot of archetypes in metal. You know... metal can only be played by guys in long hair, leather and steel and of course drunked and hating all the planet. This are not really true, but there´s some idea about this in the collective imaginary. Little girls doing metal with cute dresses?... oh my god, the end is near, the apocalypse is coming 🤣 But you know?... metal world in general wellcome them from years ago. The review "Metal Hammer" was one of the firsts of do this. Bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Dragonforce join with them happily because they do metal and because they are really fun (also because the girls themself are really humble, polite and hard workers.. oh and really cute). People like Metallica or Judas Priest do the same. From Lady Gaga or Ariana Grande to Anthrax or Slipknot. And maybe those guys know a one or two thing about metal. Also and finishing, Metal is possibly one of the widest genres of music. A lot of things really different are under the umbrella of metal so i think there´s a place for "Kawaii metal"
BABYMETALという沼に少しずつはまっていく人を見るのは面白い。
'Give me Chocolate' is a very "happy" song, 'karate' is more "serious", but songs like 'akatsuki', 'road of resistance' or 'rondo of nightmare' surely will give you a better idea of the real metal potential of Babymetal.
Try some of that songs in their live version, please.
The first impression with Babymetal always is something like WTF.

"Why do I like this?"
There is an easy answer: Because it's good!
"People / group / band?"
I tend to call them Metal Performance Group.
Babymetal live perform is better than official video xD
Please check out, Babymetal Road of Resistance live in japan
Glad you enjoyed this one more! Starting with Gimme Chocolate can usually be a big hit or miss with alot of people, but you made a good choice going for Karate as you second. :)
I would suggest you try out 'Road of Resistance' as your third one, this one also has alot of crowd interaction and gives you an idea of just how much Babymetal fans love these three little girls!
I'll drop a link for you here.

I'm glad he started with Gimme Chocolate. It's really boring when people start with Road Of Resistance. The whole fun of the reactions are the WTF moments :)
@UCGj-D47cWunv7S0kdg7Fbcw Like people think they're a cute novelty band, seconds before the truck hits them lol!
I went from WTF to watching every reaction video I can in 18 months. It's dangerous shit. [Also Gimmee Chocolate being my gateway drug]
Don't be surprised if you wake up tomorrow with one of there songs in your head
Actually, I did and I'm like hell REALLY?
Here's a link to "Road of Resistance (Live in Japan)": ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.html
I'd also recommend "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" at Sonisphere in 2014 (ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html) and a couple of solos with the lead singer, SU-METAL: "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischiefs of the Gods intro (ruclips.net/video/QxYAcIyk2Co/видео.html), in which each of the musicians get a spotlight, and Akatsuki (ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html), both performed at Budokan in 2014.
Play as hard and loud as you can."
Everything you read in the comments before is true, Babymetal have many supporters among the metal community.

Theres not many bands who you can say live is better and being there is a whole new experience. My hook to the Band was Su's vocals . musics great and choreography outstanding
But her voice is fantastic she is 17 in this video i believe.
I can understand the voice thing so well XD
Gimme Chocolate is really most extreme song in that aspect. Also they are just extreme fun to watch and they brighten your day ^-^
But if you want more serious metal from Japan I highly recommend Dir en grey again. Song Vinushka (unrestricted pv version)
Thank you for giving them another listen! And good luck with the earworm ;D
I love babymetal, but I have to agree that Dir En Grey is the best metal band from Japan.
Also, welcome to the foxhole, and being The ONE. Enjoy your stay ;P
I agree with most commenting here. You should view road of resistance live in Japan. I would also check out headbanger (legend 1997 version)!
yes please! perfect choices
Road of Resistance will change your mind and you'll appreciate the singing a lot more, while loving the band!

(guitar arrangements by Herman Li and Sam Totman of "Dragon Force")

As my fellow members on The One have said, your next port of call should be Road of Resistance. After that, Babymetal Death (Legend 1997) or Headbanger (legend 1997)

Good luck!
Rondo of nightmare will be more up your ally :) but good reaction 👍🏼
This song is actually one of my favorite baby metal songs (if not my favorite). Gimme chocolate really does grow on you. Basically BABYMETAL is on my workout playlist haha.

Its Su, the lead singers 16th birthday party and on the other, darker, end of the WTF scale.
Kitsune up!
One more video and your journey to the Kawaii side will be complete. Road of Resistance live in Japan.
Another brilliant reaction! This band takes you through multiple emotional stages. I can see the conflict happening between your mind and your heart. You heart is saying "this is awesome," and your mind is saying "this should not be."
It is so different/unique that it's hard for the brain to process.
HAVE FUN!
Don’t think. Feel !
You are going to get (and probably have been) pounded by requests...and I do hope you keep checking them out. They cover alot of ground and musical styles within their music. New subscriber here!

Road Of Resistance Live In Japan - Enjoy the journey......
Try live versions for complete your feeling about Babymetal.
Kistune up
Yeah Gimme Chocolate is kind of the song to get Jpop people into metal, not the other way around.
"Road of resistance live in japan"
They are true SAMURAI girls ‼️

rondo of nightmare must be your taste...hope it
Babymetal has everything I love about metal, the heavy guitars, the double kick drums and the high energy, but none of what I hate about conventional metal, the fake, toxic masculinity and and stupid, childish machismo.

Distortion might be more up your alley
Apprezzo molto questo genere di video
Great and honest reaction, thanks! Oh, and also thanks for the mention!
This is exactly the type of reaction we like. Watching you fighting against yourself and your preconceived ideas (just like this song's meaning: fighting your inner demons). I know that feeling pretty well, being an old-school hardcore metalhead. The key, as it has already been said, is open your mind. You are already in musically and that was the easy part because the band is very, very good (top level I'd say). Now it's the time to left any prejudice behind to really appreciate the whole composition. So you need to need to check some live performances and apart of Road of Resistance (live in Japan) that I suggested you yesterday, may I suggest you Akatsuki (Live at Budokan Black Night): ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html
Enjoy!

Akatsuki by BM !!!
Just try !babymetal - headbanger - live (makuhari messe)
I enjoy your reaction!
Definition of rondo
1 : an instrumental composition typically with a refrain recurring four times in the tonic and with three couplets in contrasting keys
2 : the musical form of a rondo used especially for a movement in a concerto or sonata
Because I am a Japanese and not good at English, but I like your reaction!!!
The kami band live are something outstanding
And yes, Babymetal broke a lot of archetypes in metal. You know... metal can only be played by guys in long hair, leather and steel and of course drunked and hating all the planet. This are not really true, but there´s some idea about this in the collective imaginary. Little girls doing metal with cute dresses?... oh my god, the end is near, the apocalypse is coming 🤣
But you know?... metal world in general wellcome them from years ago.
