“Straws Pulled at Random” has an incredibly beautiful bridge/solo section that is rare for them to incorporate so much melody instead of their usual rhythm-centric approach. Definitely worth checking out!

@@neonskepetunije Yes, also Dancers to a Discordant System (starts atonal but becomes really beautiful) and from their last album 'They move below'
They do more complicated stuff: like 'Clockworks' for instance. That's a polyrhythmic hell :D

Lyrical analysis is extremely important for songs like these, it is grossly overlooked for, thanks for sticking to it. Seperates u from the rest in a wholesome manner

You would love Periphery if you haven’t heard them yet! Check out Wildfire, Have a Blast, Atropos or Absolomb to get started, then Reptile for a deep dive! 😈

This is probably their most straightforward song, rhythmically speaking. Most of their other stuff is much more complicated, although most of their songs still have that inherent 4/4 groove.

Damn you dont know meshuggah apart from this and bleed?
Then i recommend that you start with future breed machine, its an old song that is very groovy a very nice bridge and some relentless parts as well. A nice song that has varied atmospheres instead of the monolithic sound that they now display in the later albums.
Or if you want just pure aggression, there is New millenium Cyanide Christ, also an early song but an all-out assault this Time.

An underrated gem that deserves more recognition!
I experienced "Meshuggah" via 'Download 05' UK (Snickers Stage + Main Stage)
simply the fact as they opened for headliners Black Sabbath
Live Promotion Tour: Catch Thirtythree :)
As a casual Meshuggah follower whose greatest familiarity with them is their 2005 album
    'Catch Thirtythree'.
for 30 years since their recording debut 'Contradictions Collapse'
they've developed their sound over the years.
Koloss is their sequel to their 2008 venture obZen.
This is the 2nd CD in the unofficial Meshuggah trilogy all elements from their pre 2000's CDs and putting them together.
which is best described as a combination of several of their previous records.
and is the most watered-down release in Meshuggah's discography.
It mostly lacks the complex, hypnotic rhythms of past releases,
and instead goes for straightforward, bludgeoning chug taciturns ("Demiurge").
Thus, the good news, tho: Kidman sounds as good as ever
("The Demon's Name Is Surveillance") and it isn't all bad
    ("Swarm" is dacent).
However I've got to say for the most part, there are many unique elements hidden within every song on Koloss which is a great CD with a few tracks which aren't as good in between.
Meshuggah creatively succeed in bringing a diverse yet cohesive tracklist
(there aren't two tracks similar or that resembles one another) and this might be the strongest point of Koloss in which they manage to deliver something they didn't before with their previous albums -
that I always thought were a bit monotonous -.
Meshuggah have clearly considered the dark, bottomless and often starkly ethereal atmosphere of the album, highlighted by two developments: the new high-register droning tones which have replaced the furious mechanical tremolo picking of old, and the deep, rich, organic production -
The atmosphere on this record is also the best since Catch 33,
which I felt had a very united eeriness to it. On Koloss,
I find the atmosphere very dark but in some way.
"Demiurge" seemed rather weak to me at first but it seems that "Koloss"
remains at the same mediocre level to me,
even after a lot of additional listens.
it is not that it sounds too much like their earlier albums.
By the time they came to record Koloss, Meshuggah's distinctive "Djent" sound
was no longer their unique quirk but the hallmark of a whole subgenre of progressive metal,
many of whose proponents such as 'Tesseract' I find more interesting than Meshuggah's early works.
I expected "Demiurge" to be a lot better...
Still, decent effort, but I think they peaked with "I" and "Catch 33".
    the songwriting is still fantastic.
That's always been the thing with Meshuggah -
but upon closer listening they're extremely well-composed with a great level of attention to detail and dynamics. The development in the songs feels more natural and organic than the more rigid, mechanical sound they're known for, and accordingly the production sounds much less digital and polished than their previous albums.

I am old enough to know the band has material that stands apart from the rest of a catalog as many of the early demo albums 'Metallien - Demo (1985)
all imports from the UK :)

I can recommend the Lovecraft/H.R. Giger visual cover of the Demiurge video. The Xenomorph aesthetic is really trippy and unsettling to look at, which perfectly matches the tone and atmosphere of this song :>

    Contradictions Collapse:
Not missing anything if you skip, generic thrash metal with a Jens sounding like a ripoff of James From Metallica lol. If you like thrash metal give the album a listen.
    None:
Humiliative is a must, it's the opening track and the best imo. You'll recognize their sound from 94' as uniquely Meshuggah.
    Destroy Erase Improve:
Future Breed Machine, Soul Burn and Sublevels are musts from this album.
    Chaosphere:
Concatenation and New Millennium Cyanide Christ.
Concatenation being the opening track sets the tone of the album well. It's chaotic and manic.
    Nothing:
Front to back album listen is the best for this one first time. And for the love of god listen to the original yellow album first and not the remaster blue album, it's okay but the original is better for first listen.
    I:
    Just do it.
    Catch Thirty Three:
This is one of those where the tracks just run into each other so it's one long ass track essentially, it's worth the entire listen but if you're not into that at least listen to the In Death - Is Life and In Death - Is Death combo as those are not to be missed.
    Obzen:
Like Nothing, this is a front to back listen album. Every track is amazing.
    Koloss:
My favorite album and another front to back listen album. Every track is an absolute banger. Fuck I love this album.
    The Violent Sleep of Reason:
Clockworks, Violent Sleep of Reason and Our Rage Won't Die are the musts here with an optional Born in Dissonance if you like your brain being fucked with more than the usual Meshuggah track. It's a fun one.
    Immutable:
Broken Cog into The Abysmal Eye live from the latest tour run is insane. It's their concert opener and should be seen. Phantoms and Ligature Marks are also good ones to listen to from this album.
If you have the time and interest in the band I highly suggest a full discography listen but that's quite a time commitment.
