Nice piece of wood turning. Thank you for sharing. As an observation, It seems to me many wood turners use a lot of resin in their pieces, yet end up turning it away. I don’t know how one would prevent this waste when turning to the desired shape. Good resin isn’t cheap and it is sad to see so much waste hit the floor. But, I realize as a wood turner, that’s just part hobby/craft/art/game. Regardless of this thought, you turned a very nice piece!!!👍👍👍👍
Thanks. Yeah it can be difficult to get full coverage on the cracks as they run all around the piece even underneath. Sometimes it's safer just to use extra resin for a guarantee you won't miss anything.
Glasscutr ....hey, when you’ve got a brand new pressure pot you need to use it anyway you can. His followers helped him buy the pressure chamber so a little wasted resin is a low price to pay. I’d go outside and pick up the first piece of rotten broke off snag of a limb I stumbled across, submerge it in resin under pressure then turn the dog shit out of it! Hell I might even submerge all my resin shavings off the floor in resin and turn it down to a toothpick if I felt the urge. Resin soaking pressurizing and turning, what could be more enjoyable I ask ya.
Back in the day, the old-time turners turned greenwood. Then, they stored the items in a bin of the shavings from the wood. Note, it was turned oversized. then in six months, they finished the piece! If one could rough out one per day for a year, then every day the next year, there would be one or more to offer for sale. A modern-day turner (in a national magazine) recommended a plastic bag instead of the bins of wood. It must work. However, I did not try it when I used to turn. Good luck and keep on turning out your work, and your videos. Thanks J.D.
Yeah, I did think about taking this approach but to be honest most of my turning is for enjoyment for me and the audience not necessarily to provide me sales. I like seeing what i can create from a drawing on a piece of paper.
I've just discovered your channel - recommended to me. Watched the gorgeous cube/bowl , then the plywood rings, and then this - masterful work. Beautiful.
I am absolutely fascinated by your work. I could watch you do this for hours. You have such a love for what you are creating and it can be seen in the great care you take with your projects. Beautiful works you are an amazingly talented artist sir. Thank you for sharing with the world.
Whoever you are, that Walnut Vase is stunningly beautiful...and you got some crazy good skills my friend. Also, the filmwork and editing in this is professional grade...absolute respect and peace to you.
That vase is beautiful! I think I would have dealt with the cracks differently though. Dremel them a bit as you did, yes. But instead of doing epoxy resin, I would have done cooked pine sap into the cracks. And boiled linseed oil followed with hot bee's wax to finish. I love the epoxy resin for some projects, but this wood is too beautiful to apply nothing but all-natural sealers and finishes to such beautiful wood.
I think the guy is a newbie that could not figure out if he needed casting. It happens to new turners. they have problem with envisioning what they can get out of a log.
This kept coming in my recommendation and then I watched it..... From now on I am not going to question this in my recommendation...😃 By the way wonderful work
Oh boy, what is he going to set free? A thing of beauty! The only thing this color freak would have done differently is to have made the resin a turquoise, electric blue, or fuchsia. Your music choices were perfect as well. Thanks for sharing!

I turn a lot of gnarly logs too. Save yourself from a beating and make yourself an Olan tool. I used thick wall pipe, one inch diameter, but for your size lathe use 3/4" diameter. At the end use a 3/8" square hss bit. It's for roughing only. You'll thank me later.

It looked like there were only a couple of cracks in the wood. Wouldn't it have been easier to pour the epoxy in the cracks even if you had to do it more than once? They make a green wood stabilizer but I never used it. Great job and it looks fantastic!
At least with the way he did it guaranteed that the resin would penetrate and fill that crack completely and it eliminated the need for a seal coat which would have been necessary in order to prevent bubbles from forming due to the wood off gassing had he a just tried to fill that crack by pouring.
Since the kitchen is my domain ... the wife won't interfere. Alas, one day I had a bunch of #20 biscuits that had swelled a bit from humidity so I put them in the microwave to dry out. Didn't want to risk my work splitting. Turned my back for a couple of minutes and there they were, happily making a camp fire in the microwave! Wrecked the microwave, too. If that didn't teach me! These days I dry small wood bits and bobs on an oventray in the fan oven at 70C. MUCH safer. Never mind it takes a bit of time.
That is nothing short of stunning! Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship with us!

very nice project...looks like all the epoxy got carved out (except what stabilized the deep crack); finished product is beautiful
Could have easily just filled the crack and not waste so much plastic.
Beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Nicely done video - and the editing was excellent. Made me want to get a lathe. Nice touch!
Wow, that is a gorgeous piece; when I saw all that epoxy resin, I had my doubts but the finished article is beautiful. Very well done.

very nice, pure art.
You are very good at this craft.
The Wood came out great, but seems like the waste of a lot of casting material to fill a few cracks.
It was a little excessive but this was partly because i premade the mold before microwaving and returning
I think the guy is a newbie that could not figure out if he needed casting. It happens to new turners. they have problem with envisioning what they can get out of a log.
Yep no idea what i'm doing or where i'm going.
Wow, thank you for setting free the beauty hidden in that log.
Thanks for watching 👍

I don't know how I found my way here. but I'm so zen right now watching this. The vase is stunning. mad crazy skills.
I don't quite understand the resin part....all that resin for that little crack? Beautiful, tho!
There were a few that are not as noticeable from the video. I figured i'd fill them all in one go. Thanks for watching

Всё равно, что свинью стричь.
Причём никакой техники безопасности. Стружка летит в харю, а если бревно сорвётся, то нанесёт травмы. Этот токарь по дереву сильно рискует.

Pretty but I'm also wondering about the over use of the resin seems wasteful considering the price.
Yep. Maybe another way next time
Same thing came to my mind. But I thought amateur guy. I should appreciate the effort.
Sheila perry-rosales ..... yeah, and I'm wondering about the over-use of letters in your name, seems quite wasteful..!!
