this was a little too close for comfort for me and why I never recommend people ski solo. I’m sure this wasn’t a big deal for most but I try to ski on the more conservative side.
As a solo skier this video is my fear. I would have stuck with those other bros.
No matter the difficulty in terrain, you make it look easy! Thank you for your time and generosity with the stoke! Stay Safe … That’s an order 🫡 🤘 Yewww
💯
Especially in an unfamiliar place like this! Very sketchy!
Yeah that looked sketchy to me lol. It is tricky that some resorts mark cliffs up high with a rope you need to duck, but others just mark the cliff right at the edge when you are already committed.
Dude, that was gnarly AF!! Way to stay cool and collected out there. I had my first run in with a cliff too over the weekend and you really do just need to take your time and assess everything calmly. Always better to go out with a partner that's for sure. Sick moves, Lucas!!
thanks dude!
That’s the kind of stuff I like to ski! 😍
Revy is a beast, props for getting yourself out of that situation.
Thanks man. It’s a legit mountain for sure
Damn that’s scary man. Had it happen to me in the side country at steamboat like 15 years ago. It took about 5 patrollers like 3 hours to get us out of the situation. I learned how to repel that day. Thank god there was one bar of cell service. The first patroller rappel down to me. I said you’re not mad are you? He said fuck no I live for this shit! While we were trying to climb down a super sketch spot my buddy lost his skis while trying to hand them to me. Once we got off the cliff I gave one of my skis to my buddy. We one skied the rest of the way. The patrollers were like you guys can definitely ski, you just took a wrong turn a little early. Didn’t get to the base of the mountain until about 10pm. The next morning we went into the patrol room with about 10 cases of beer for those guys! A day I will never forget and a lesson learned. I’m sure they still remember that rescue because one patroller said it was the worst cliffed out situation he has ever been to at steamboat.
Glad you got out of your situation on your own!!
That’s a great story
I still have a small branch of the pine tree I held for several hours until we were rescued. It’s on my bookshelf to this day hahaha
Video showed some serious lessons. We take for granted sometimes the ease at which you destroy these mountains. Sketchy situations happen, gotta remain calm and find a way out. Appreciate you talking your mindset after the fact too.
Believe me, that cliff area looked extremely scary on your vid. I need a drink. 🥃
Revelstoke looks awesome.
thanks susan! its a fun mountain
I got cliffed out solo in a similar area when the lifts were beginning to close. It feels super isolated and like you're in the backcountry out there.
yeah totally. not the best feeling
Was just there for 4 days last week. 3rd year in a row. super stoked (get it) for this episode and happy to see you shred Revy. there are quite a few bootpacks (you did the hardest one, subpeak and the lemming line right below it) but you can also hit southbowl and bootpack just passed the boundary line there's plenty of fresh snow. Cant wait to see what the rest of your days look like at revy. rly hoping u get some sunshine cuz the views when its not cloudy are absolutely unreal!
Great video! Happy you listened to your inner voice and used caution.
At Alpental, our "Backcountry" (side-country) is very similar, & people not familiar with the hill can find themselves on a cliff very easily.
Hope things w/ Luna get easily resolved, and the cool journey continues across Canada.
Mo-
12:34 is one of my absolute biggest fears progressing in my skiing, is just casually going along and then BOOM cliff....But I don't know anyone who that wouldn't of been a nerve-racking experience :X Good job getting out of that shenanigans
Awesome Video/Vlog Lucas of RMR. Glad you made it back for another visit and that the conditions were decent enough for you👍
Looks like you found the 3 bears cliff band, it does get tricky, and you tackled it the best way other then needing a parachute for this season we are half the snow pack as usual.
Great content and awesome videos, keep safe , looking forward to seeing more outdoor adventure videos.
thanks shane! good to know haha
Pretty sure that was meant genuinely! Anyone who knows you and your videos has to love ya!
Thanks for the video. Was just there two weeks ago and the snow is amazing, but such a gnarly mountain in some places. Glad I avoided that area 😂
Awesome vlog! Looks fun…but it’s still fun at Revy wo that much snow when locals are casually sending big on jumps. It’s also one of my fav mtns, w great fall line skiing, terrain and locals who can really rip. I think we all get caught back there at Ripper chair wondering if we’re gonna get stranded out there all night, skiing at the end of the day, close to when the chair shuts down…happened to me! Good job w skiing out of those hairy situations. Now I know why my ski instructor kept telling us to be safe out there skiing (after telling him of next trip to Big Sky and Revelstoke meanwhile skiing the entire DV and PC didn’t trigger that same response)! Prob better to get a guide going off piste so as not to run into any of that craziness but I think as skiers we do get into situations where we just have to ski it and hope for best bec there’s no other option. Can’t wait to see more! Keep up the good work
You were hugging that mountain! 😱
Yah it was steep!
Love the vids! Can’t wait till next season!
Dude! Great music on this vid. Tally Ho. Skied that two weeks ago. Loved seeing your run. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks James. Hope you had a good time out there.
You really deserve more attention man the effort you put into these videos is unmatched!
I appreciate that man!
Cool to see Revelstoke from the van perspective! Nice work again man!
thanks bro!
Nice job Lucas, as you say Revy can bite you with the changing terrain, we once found a snowed over flowing creek the hard way.
Keep up the good work and thanks for coming to Canuckistan.
Strong work getting out of a sketchy situation.
Thanks bro
This may be a weird request, but can you make a music playlist that can be shared? The music on your videos always get me stoked and it's always stuff I've never heard before.
Agreed. He gets all his tunes off a royalty free site, and I try to find the songs too.
im not sure how much of it is on sites like spotify but maybe i can try to put the tracks i use in the descriptions
@11:45 ahh the classic Blind leading the Blind, haven't we all been there, you did a great job of working you way out situation that could have gone very bad very quickly.
ha yeah thanks peter!
That Cliff sign at 13:39 was No Joke my friend. Glad you made it out unharmed.
Thanks James!
AYY, Lucas coming out with another banger teaching the Stoke students how to ski properly.
showing people what NOT to do lol
I think it was a sincere msg. For ever hater you have 1000 fans bro. Stay positive
Thanks brother.
Revelstoke is an awesome mountain Lucas, hope that you are going to stay a few days more to experience everything it has to offer! Then onto Kicking Horse for more GNARL!!
yah kicking horse is legit!
Great video bro. Keep on skiing
Thanks bro
Hey Lucas! Kudos getting down that!! I like the tiny little orange signs that say Cliff! Lol. Revel does looks like it has some rough terrain! I'm sure the finger graffiti was all in good fun!
haha yea those cliff signs are quite hidden!
Thank goodness you're okay
I’m all good
12:26 that would of been a send to outerspace! What video fails to capture is just how scary it is to aggressively shred expert terrain you're totally unfamiliar with. Most good skiers can rip the difficult terrain at their home hill but put em on terrain they don't know and they look like a different skier.
yea good point man
That exact situation happened to me at revelstoke by myself. And whitewater ski resort as well. Like you said it’s way crazier in person. I’ve tried to take photos with cellphone and never comes out on camera just how steep or big it is. Good times
yeah its no joke out on the mountain!
That hiking scene to the top was immersive af man! Revelstoke is pretty sick and twisted with there names if that’s really Beauty Glades lol. Glad you found a route through that mess unscathed!
It's committment to the shot on a boot pack to set down the camera and have to redo parts of the bootpack haha. I'm way to lazy for that (which is why I'm a random nobody commenting on a youtube creator's channel haha)
@@tristancleary reminded me of Survior Man back in the day on Discovery Channel before it went to shit.
thanks zach! i honestly dont even know where i was on the mountain but i think it was near the beauty glades haha
Got me on the edge of my seat with this content
awesome
Dope as always dude, enjoy the racetrack this weekend!
Thanks bro!
Your videos are really cool man keep it up
Thanks paul
Revelstoke is an awesome little ski town. I have stayed at the Stoke Hotel and would definitely recommend. Also make sure to check out the Village Idiot while you are in town if you haven't already.
yah revelstoke is definitely cool. fun little area
Respect to you!!!
So much stoke in one episode!
Yea stoke for sure
I'll be at Revelstoke in two days. I'll make sure to avoid that cliff area. I know it's difficult to show the steepness of the terrain on camera, but it was abundantly clear in this case. The blacks you were skiing at the beginning of the vid are perfect for me.
No go drive your silly race car I guess. 😝
have fun out there.
OUch....reminds me of Crested Butte. Nice job getting out of there!
Thank you! No harm no foul I guess
Great video. Appreciate the bits of wisdom.
thanks for watching man
loved the video, that was a crazy cliff. good on ya making it out safely. what ski app do you use and display at the end of your video?
Yo you should head back out to Telluride sometime!
Of all mountains ive been to, Revelstoke just has that insane level. Doesnt matter what run or where it can change to quite gnarly. But my god is it fun and there and pushes you to ski better
yea man for sure. its a legit mountain
Nice moves Lucas....be careful out there brother
Thanks dude
Revelstoke is not for everyone. In the beginning when it first opened, it was cool, uncrowded and was fun to explore. After being there 5 or 6 times, the ownership has invested very little in the mountain. There is only 1 lift that takes you to the top and only 3 lifts in the entire resort. The mountain is severely under serviced regarding lifts, and there are very few places to warm up or eat unless you go almost all the way down to the base. If you are young, fit, and strong, and are a good slier, Revy can be fun. You will find yourself hiking or climbing to access the better terrain. There are really long traverses, cat tracks, or treacherous ski outs to return to the lifts. On a pow day, you will find yourself waiting in loooong lift lines to access the top of the mountain.
It's definitely not a beginners mountain that's for sure!
Great video stud!!
Thanks dude
Man brother, you gotta stop making me sweat lol. I feel ya, those dead ends are no joke :( Be safe my friend!!!
Thank you bro! All good 👍🏽
Do you prefer to keep the skis in your rig? You probably could do a hitch rack and with a short extension it would clear the boxes. Could even get one that folds backwards to still be able to open/ swing the tailgate boxes.
I do prefer to keep them in the rig just for safety/theft reasons
Great video, Lucas, and glad to see you weren’t injured. I hope your mom doesn’t watch these videos.
As for the tracks, just think, you have now enticed other skiers into the same area. Ooops.
Hopefully with jsut one track they won’t follow
yea haha well if i can make it down, im sure most of the skiers back at revelstoke can also make it down
Great vid, you you should make some merchandise
Maybe next season
the questions that i was asking myself before you even got to the cliffs were how tall are the trees? i saw all the tree tops that were sticking out of the snow a couple of feet.. i mean those could have been 10 foot trees with all of the snow.. using those same principles when you got into the cliffs.. those boulders could have been huge with a lot of snow on them.. some could be safe and some not safe..
handled that like a boss god damn
Thanks!
chehoo baby!!!
Yewww!
you should try the Armada ARV 84
Bro, I was there that day...haha. We flew from Salt Lake to Seattle to Kelowna. We were there from 2/4- 2/11
Sick dude! Fun place
Really enjoyed the silent b roll bootpacking, better than the music montages
Glad you liked it!
Rad terrain out there
Yea it’s no joke
Overstoked!!
Yeww
13:38 I don’t know if he saw this but the tree said CLIFF! on it 😂
Ha yea that little sign in the trees!
I got cliffed out before and it was like rocks, not snow that I could jump down... I had to like slowly shuffle across the rocks on the edges of my skis to avoid death. then was able to grab on to some tree roots and pull myself higher...
Sounds about right! Sounds like you handled it well
9:24, gotta love how GoPro shuts off anytime you say something that starts with “sh…”
haha it was just on a timer.
9:33. Editor said "Enough of this yapping, on to the Stoke!"
ha yea pretty much
@lucas Catania were you parked at Sandman hotel last week? Think I saw your van
Yah I was staying there a few days
@@LucasCatania17 Nice! We had a group of about 45, mainly from the Philly area. If you saw a bunch of people wearing yellow caution tape on the slopes, that was us!
So I just got to the part where you almost got cliffed out Thank God you have good intuition and common sense to hit the brakes when you did that would not have been a very nice tumble to take
yah man all good
Was the snow better this time around ? Totally stoked
Yea! Fresh dusting was nice!
Revy is unreal
its pretty sick ngl
Lucas, what are you using to track your skiing. I am using a Garmin instinct but the data is lacking and I feel is unreliable. Looking for something better if you have any suggestions
I’m using ski tracks
What bindings do you use for your ARV 116 JJ's?
Tyrollia attacks
@@LucasCatania17 Thank you.
Where now goign to that sun ski resort!
Awesome have fun there!
Gotta get some homies at each spot you go so you're not venturing into tricky terrain solo.
Imagine the work to hike up and set up the camera then walk back and hike again... Respect to the great work!
Appreciate that!
Les Stroud would be proud.
They need cliff signs before you get cliffed out, not after it's too late.
Yeah they are quite lax about their cliff markings haha
that was sooo sketchy!
lil bit!
intro as super cool
69420
What was up with all those bags???
Not sure
What’s with all the back packs at the bottom of the lift.
People just leave them down there as they rip
No waaaaayyyy someone would write that on your baby and not mean it in a stoked way :D
I could tell that was steep the way you were stuck to the side and the angle of the trees. We could really see how bad from the bottom, although the wide angle lense does make it seem less extreme.
yah for sure. gopro does flatten it out a bit.
God I love revy
Same
My husband is a steel fabricator and welder if you're looking for a new ski rack he might be able to help make something custom.
Sweet thank you!
OK 14:00 was crazy steep - the GoPro does not do the inclination justice but from that you can tell it's crazy steep.
Be careful man. We need you in one piece 😅
ha all good for now
how about a cliff sign at the one you almost went off. So sketch. Never a good feeling to be cliffed out!
Yea seriously. There was one hidden in the trees but hard to see
I prefer skiing steep, steep open bowls with moguls to tree skiing. I like the views.
yah theyre all great!
Oooops ..... shit
Way to get thru it. Cooler head prevailed. On to the next "adventure"
no harm no foul i guess haha
careful with the solo riding in unknown territory that is that technical. could be a long time before you are rescued if something happens.
lol i just cant take some of the shots seriously knowing hes doing these climbs, but then has to walk back and do everything again to get his camera lol
Must be new around here
During the whole moment getting yourself down the cliff, I could hear a broski and a valley girl yapping, we're people watching you or where was that coming from?
I think there was a few people down below the cliff on the cat track
Taking a trail that u have no idea is the formula for defeat.
This looks like the best conditions you have had on this trip. Those of us that live up here in the PNW know that you have to plan your days and go to the resorts with the best weather. Weather isn't everything, because any day on the slopes is better than a day in the office!
Where’s the ropes 😂 or cliff signs
Haha hidden in the trees
For anyone wondering, he got "cliffed out" at 13:51.
Thanks for watching
when in doubt stay away from anything labeled beauty...another sick day.
haha good rule of thumb
I think revy is the best terrain/vertical in North America.
It’s definitely up there with the best. I think kicking horse has better terrain in my opinion
Did you ever ski Fernie?
Your lucky you didn’t die on this one. Trees were marked “cliff”.
Yea okay
Good content. Way too many commercials! Not sure if that’s a RUclips/Google thing or not but the # and repetitiveness or the commercials are causing me look at other ski content.
Sorry you feel that way. I provide this entertainment for free so the ads are the way I earn my living.
If there was an option to pay for a subscription that’s ad free, I would really consider it. I am 69 years old. Time is money to me, and sitting thru ads wastes too much of what limited time I have. And as I said, your content is good!
@@stevestegman8181 there is. You can purchase RUclips premium and you won’t see any ads.
I’ll check it out!
Always love your videos but sometimes you stress me out Bro
sorry man
Don’t ride new places out of bounds by yourself kids.
Wasn’t out of bounds.
Wow,plz buy a personal locator beacon. It realy wort it i think.
