Patrice, Dane, Billy Burr & Bobby Kelly all started out doing comedy together in the early 90's back in Boston. That's why Patrice loves him so much, because they were genuine friends who started doing open mics together, so he watched him pull himself up from the very bottom.
Never realized how many of these guys all knew each other. And Jimmy, Keith Robinson, Hart, Quinn, DiPaolo, Florentine, Louis, etc. A perfect storm of comedy.
Dane went away because his teenage girl demographic grew up and he was outed for stealing from Louis. His newer stuff is better. I like his new found bitterness and he's quit pandering to a single demographic .
Dane is a throwback, an old vaudevillian style funnyman. He isn't trying to use the stage as an avenue for examining childhood pain, to shock people, or engage in anything too complex, he just wants to make people laugh. He has a place.
Poor Patrice. One of the GOATs of his era had to literally watch Dane Cook blow up and obtain Fuck You $, then have to watch the same exact thing happen with Kevin Hart right in front of him and he was funnier then both of them combined.
As was discussed at length by all those who worked with and respected Patrice, he shot himself in the foot by being stubborn with accepting work within a complete dishonest industry he hated.
Patrice was one of the most honest and consistent comedians. He def stood by Dane Cook during the fame and, especially, after it faded. Almost opposite stage presence btw the two, but clearly a close friendship.

I saw Jessica Alba at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Ms. Alba, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, Alba stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

This is brilliant.. Talking about the table like this that is literally a table of generational influence with some of the biggest comedians today coming from that table The table was patrices and helped comedians find a voice and build confidence and him defending that means of creating comedy over the kindness and naturing Cook may have wanted whilst sitting at the table is clearly accurate now as we know the people from the table are dominating the industry
Patrice is infinity funnier and people are only starting to realize that. People always flock to the familiar first before they realize familiar isn't always better. There is no justice. RIP
I have an innate instinct to criticize Dane for not putting Patrice on any of his high profile projects that could have boosted his career... but then again knowing Patrice, that might have actually happened and he shat on the whole project and turned it down 🤣
The thing about good actual friends is they know that sometimes asking someone to do something that you KNOW they wouldn't do, because you KNOW what your friend is like, is more insulting than friendly. Like if I told you I hate olives, tried all kinds and never liked em, and you offer me some olives? How am I supposed to take that as anything else but ''my friend doesn't actually know me I guess''.
While I respect guys like Patrice, Burr, & Kelly who defended Dane because they all came up together in Boston when they were nobodies , there’s been numerous stories of Dane being an asshole when he was in the midst of his superstardom. He’d regularly bump comics at clubs, got into an argument with Steve Byrne and accused him of stealing his “essence”, tried to get Dom Irrera banned from the Laugh Factory for telling him to cool down & be nicer to people, etc. He apparently went on a major power trip during the height of his fame. So whether you liked his comedy or not, he apparently was a real asshole to other comedians. And comedians rightfully let it be known their dislike of him.
Herv3 "may have"? That's sounds like a weird reason to hate someone. Sounds like jealousy to me. Louis CK said he didn't steal from him. It seems that if a comic gets too big too fast, all of the sudden they get accused of stealing jokes. Comedians are notoriously super petty. Then those fan bases strike and boom, true or not, joke stealing spreads throughout the internet. It's weird.
I've heard that about comics many times, that they're really petty, exclusive and harsh towards others coming up thru the ranks. I've also heard Joe Rogan say comedians are different nowadays and are very supportive towards each other because there's enough to go around if you are good and willing to work hard. Which brings me to Brendan Schaub and The Hodge Twins. They'ye funny guys, yes. But I don't know if they're comedian funny. Haven't watched their stand-up. I know they sell out shows though. I don't have a problem with that. I'm glad for them all. But I'm willing to bet there's some comedians out there who are jealous of their success.
