- The Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition: Is it the best cheap joystick for Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Having owned the stick since March 2021, its been a part of my setup for a number of years now, and I figured after three years on, it would be a good time to talk through my experience with the stick, its advantages, its disadvantages and whether I would consider upgrading it.

No matter what some people are saying, 70 bucks you get a very precise stick. Simply block the twist and use a rudder and you are ready to fly for hours
I've had mine since FS2020 was released...it's great ! Never fails, getting extra addons this week :)
Velocity one flightstick is Nice for starting to! Nice vid btw
i totally agree, i have my sidestick and the quadrant 2 years and it works very good. I just bought the yoke and throttles and they are better.
I've pretty much had this stick since day 1 with MSFS 2020, and I completely agree with your comments. I too have looked at alternatives, but I keep coming back to the point of what extra will I get by spending a bunch more money? Answer - two tenths of not a lot!
Re that little throttle slider, I actually use that as wheel brakes. It took a bit of experimentation to get the sensitivity right, but it now works really well and I can do a nice smooth braking action. Note I'm 99% on airliners, so smooth braking to me counts for a lot.
Also, re that twitchy twist action - I had the same problem and actually followed a YT video to take it apart and fix the wires inside. It's actually very easy, nothing to be frightened of, and works a treat. Basically, the wires are too long and get caught around the gubbins inside, so just separating them and then sticking them back in place with the original tape, does the trick. I ain't no do it yourself guy, so if I can do it, anyone can!
And lastly, I find that actually doing your flight control test on the stick fixes rudder twitches. Give the twist action a good 2 or 3 full left and right twists, and the rudder twitch completely disappears.
I've been so happy with this stick that I haven't bothered buying rudder pedals. Good ones are really quite expensive, and I find that having used this stick for a couple of years now, I get great rudder control without them.
Thanks for the vid,
Would you do a similar vid for the TCA throttle that you have and your setup? 😊
i use the boeing yoke mostly now but the airbus sidestick is handy as a tiller for ground steering
Hello don’t know if you know but like you have the yoke and thrust leavers and rudder pedals but a sidewinder pro stick was going to try again as a side stick first got with the original flight sim x many years ago like the vids keep up the good work
I have had this throttle from when they first come out, I fly all planes with it, even GA. Never knew about the switch to stop rotation on the stick, never mind I have that for nose wheel steering with the rudder pedals
if youve got rudder pedals, use the twister feature for tiller
For me whenever i went to look to buy this stick it was 90£ or more always but i just bought it because i needed it
I have been using this TM Airbus stick and have been unlucky that the twist axis is too noisy so that the wheels dont turn smoothly as commanded and Its getting worse. In this model stick the twist axis unfortunately is not magnetic hall effect so the potentiometer tongue inside doesnt make smooth contact causing erratic behaviour. Frustrating.
do you have a trick on how to trim different aircraft with just the stick and the throttle? i know airbus does it automatically, but how would you go about with other planes such as the 787, 737, GA, etc?
I would map a couple of buttons, one for more trim, one for less
Same problem here... can't use my rudder pedals because of a leg injury but the twist has a jidder... have to give it a enormous deadzone which reflects in the sim. Real bummer.
Have the samen problem, remove the blocks with the red and black buttons, also 2 screws at the bottem and 2 behind the red (Autopilot) and 1 in the middle, take the 2 halves apart, at the very top you will see a small black box with 3 wires, this can rotate, thurn this completely from left to right a few times and you are good for a few months.
@@bva1239 thanks will give this a try tomorrow.
@@bva1239 done wires of the printplate were blocking the 3 wires of the square twitch block....cleaned it, and tugged the wires away properly. one thing made it a bit clumsy was the rudder stop. but now perfect!! deadzone back to 3.
@@nonfamous great, I'll check the wires next time I open it again, thanks.
why dont you use the stick twist as a TILLER since you have rudder pedals? the bottom of the stick grip works well to turn the front gear like a tiller.
That’s something I’ve thought about. Though I’d need to fix the twist on my stick first
what is wrong with it?@@AirNOTT
The twist doesn’t always register. Will try a fix and maybe make a video to help others. Seems relatively common
oh yeah I have heard of that, open the stick there is a wire in there that can pull out that has hotglue try to push it in and re apply more hotglue @@AirNOTT
@@jjstevenz I tried opening a different stick and broke it completely so couldnt put it together again. Once bitten twice shy.
Have you used it for helicopters?
I did for the chinook (video on the channel from a couple months back if you’re interested)
Can you play on Windows 11 with the sidestick
I’m on windows 11
How on hearth did you get a personnalized livery for your a320 ?
Perseverance!
@@AirNOTT Not an answer I expected, but an answer I do like.
I'll work on my perseverance then
Haha. I have a video on the channel detailing how I did it, step by step if you wanted to follow along
@@AirNOTT thank you so much ! I love your content, keep it going ❤️
