i saw them twice in san diego ca in a 3500-seat auditorium. they sounded exactly the same as their records. first concert had the chambers bros as the opening band. amazing band and still have the records i bought in the 60s.
Great show. If you get Miles on for a late show (I'll have to catch it later) can you ask him about the new Cure album? Would love to hear his thoughts on it. He is doing a half speed master of it. thank you
Don't care about any of the wax recently announced (slightly tickled that Esposito watched KPG cut LA WOMAN to lacquer and had his initials etched into the dead wax)... but I DID hear Jerry Cantrell confirm in a recent interview that they're finally going to reissue their 1995 self-titled record (aka "Tripod"). So I do care about that. Still no Tool or Massive Attack reissues, amazingly.
Those vinyl sales figures were confirmed to be bogus… Billboard messed up the calculations and sent out a revision. Vinyl sales were actually up a bit, following the trend of the past decade or so. I always thought that initial figure was crazy - a 33% YoY drop would be insane.
@Matasky2010 Been a doors fan since my youth. Parents had the albums. I'm 54 now...and only have LA Woman and 13 . Why ? I dunno...cuz records cost a lot more now. Still working on Beatles,Doors ,Steely Dan. Money only goes so far.
I know the ZZ Top 1st album, maybe better than anyone else on the planet, having listened to the album on loop for several years as a young man. Rhino was able to pick up tape hiss that did not exist on the original pressing, and at the same time eliminate the pre-echo that is on every 1st pressing I have and was also on the several copies I have worn out on cassette. VMP Tres Hombres beats the Rhino in sound as well. I am obviously a ginormous ZZ Top Fan, saw them live 6 times at least. And yet, I kinda regret buying the Rhino Hifi Box. So, I'll likely wait on the Doors, and get the ones that get good reviews from several sources.
After all these years, I still have my CD-4 discreet quad LP of LA Woman and OG copies of The Doors, Strange Days, and Morrison Hotel. I just ordered the four 45 RPM versions, as I don't mind having to get off my butt to change sides or disks.
Have the Speakers Corner version plus original CDN US and Mobile.IMHO the best sounding version of Crime is my original UK first pressing. Tapes were fresher.
Peter Jackson have confirmed in an podcast that they only got sent the songs used on the Red&Blue. So the rest of Rubber Soul did not get remixed at the same times as the rest of the tracks used on the Red&Blue.
With all props to their fan base I don't know how badly the record collecting world needs yet one more edition of the core 6 Doors albums. You've got original stereo, original mono, remixed, 33rpm and 2x45 rpm (and a single multichannel DVD-A). Maybe it's just me but I think they've been done to death. What is there new to hear in these recordings without modern 5.1 or Atmos remixes?
The Classic Records Zeppelin are the only audiophile versions that will ever happen. The metal work was pulled from Hobson when he pressed the roadcase without permission
It’s been confirmed to me independently by several sources such that I’m satisfied with their answer. Hobson obviously can’t confirm or deny since he’s bound by NDAs and is one of the reason he let everything go in a Firesale to Chad and still to this day is dumping stuff on eBay. You believe what you want, it doesn’t matter to me.
I have a great Doors collection on digital (CD, SACD, DVD-A, etc.), however my vinyl collection is hurting to say the least. I've shied away from the AP 45rpm pressings because I am not a big fan of the 45rpm format. I will buy this Rhino Hi Fi box set mostly because it's 33rpm. It will be very interesting to see how the 33rpm version of 'L.A. Woman' in this RHF will compare to the AP UHQR 33rpm of 'L.A. Woman' priced at $125?.
Do you think Rhino HiFi would do any/ all Sade? You also mention the theme for the HiFi is cut from all analog tapes, but how cool would it be to have a HiFi version of Tracey Chapman self titled. However, that is an all Digital Master. Do you think they would bend the rules?
@johnvillano3024 Tracy and Co. put out a press release that her first album was suppose to be reissed on vinyl this summer. What happened with that idk. Maybe we will get lucky and she will outsource to a Kevin Gray or one of our favorite mastering engineers.
@@FleagleSangria thanks for the update. I know Rhino owns the label her first album was released on, but they may not own her catalog rights. Sure would be awesome to have a top shelf audiophile pressing of that album
The problem with the Doors Rhino release will be identical to the ZZ Top boxset. The flippers will buy them on pre-order & double the price to sell on the usual platforms.
For my part the two Rhino Hi-Fi albums that I purchased did not better the albums I had for comparison. they are a little bright sounding but no added detail. One of my subscribers regrets buying the ZZ top Rhino box not impressed. I don't think the Rhino doors box could better AP 45 RPM 2 LP that I have. Opinion Based on their past products. I'm making them for folks that don't have them. so these Rhino products are aimed at those people not me apparently. I truly love Rhinos packaging and I really wanted them to sound better but my ears said no. Damn!
I purchased both the new Rocktober STP reissues and they weren’t that good as everyone said. My MOV copies are better. I wish they had gotten a better mastering engineer involved. Both looked like they were GZ in-house DMM cuts.
Open question to the forum here; what are your thoughts on recycled/eco-vinyl? So far I find it very hit and miss, and try to avoid this if at all possible.
@@stevewestman7774 many thanks Steve. I have a concern that for non audiophile vinyl, we will see more new issues as eco-vinyl, to the detriment of sound quality
@@stevewestman7774 I wonder what the numbers would look in both years if we striped out the Taylor Swift Sales? Are people buying more Vinyl from old and new artists besides Swift? I sure have. Cheers.
By no measure is the economy worse in 2024 than it was in 2023, which was actually pretty good. So it’s not that. I’m guessing there was a huge Taylor Swift effect.
Great show guys, nice to see Kevin Bolger again, love his laid-back vibe
Thanks. Appreciate that

I know. Damn fake news article.
I Know that I have cut back at least 33%. I can believe it, easily.
Mike from the In-Groove witnessed some of the mastering for The Doors box set, there all AAA, there expected to be the best of these albums
Epic. I'm stoked especially since I only have one and it's Vg at best. They got played A LOT. Kevin is the man.
Not sure why they're expected to best the AP series, other than the obscene worship of KG lol

People simply buy 2 copies and flip one to help cover for shipping and duty charges. Has nothing to do with trying to get rich from flipping vinyl.
