I'm not gonna lie, the music in this game sounds like auditory torture. It's just so high pitched it hurts my ears. The spectrum had much better music in other games, i.e. LED Storm, Robocop, Outrun.
+Karl Taylor Ditto - the music was fantastic. I remember it occasionally went wrong and the notes started hanging, it was like experimental ambient chiptune music. The odd thing is that I remember the happy pop tune from level four (the shopfronts) appearing in level three (the park). In this playthrough the park music is the same as level one. I had a budget re-release, so perhaps they tampered with it.
Are you sure that wasn't the Amstrad version as that had much of It's music out of tune in places and the odd note playing at the wrong time wheras the speccy version (the KING version) always sounds perfect. Have you seen Target Renegade+?!: ruclips.net/video/GDEKYL_YykE/видео.html
Just showed how great speccy games could be when programmed with the limitations in mind One of the best looking and playing beat em ups back in the day
Speccy it never mattered howmuch colours it had, music and playability was top notch. Deadliest in the game Mr Big and the gun man that flits on and off the screen until he has no ammo.
I had more fun on my spectrum then on my ps5 by a million miles......level 1 MUSIC is heaven to my ears.... haunting and fitting to the times ...ahhh the originality forever missed!
Yep, this and the prequel easily the best 8-bit versions, so playable and yeah the 2 player co-op mode on target made this game sooooo much better than Double Dragon,...shame the franchise eneded with Renegade III...yuk.
Amazing seeing this game again. I recently bought my mother’s house. Which is the house I grew up in, so I keep having all sorts of flashbacks. One of them being playing this game. Wasn’t a fan of part 1 or 3... but this was phenomenal
The portable TV in my room was b/w and I was only ever allowed hook my speccy up to the colour tv at Christmas time. This, and 2 player Ikari warriors were my all time favourites 👍✌️
Me and my friend played this a lot on his plus 2. I always preferred playing on the keyboard. Hands down the best 2 player experience on the ZX by far. The music on the mall level is brilliant. Pure nostalgia ❤
Literally my childhood and this was the first game that I EVER beat all the way through. After I killed Mr Big I ran downstairs and told my parents like it was the most amazing achievement ever 🤣
I am using a 128k+1 with a scart lead connected from it (rgb socket, sound taken from the mic socket which connects to the scart lead) to the back of my sony dvd / hdd recorder, i then record what i am playing on the hdd, edit it, then burn it to dvd, convert it to a file that youtube accepts then finally upload it. It may sound a lot of work but it's actually quite easy and of course...unemulated.
absolutely best game, it even had a co-op option so u could play with a friend on a single screen, and that was a gaming heaven. This is mortal kombat and golden axe combined with nick slaughter - absolutely classic
Yeah 2-player was such a laugh, sadly the 2 guys who used to play it with me i haven't seen for around 15yrs and the mates i have now ain't got a clue how to play this properly using the keyboard, otherwise i would've uploaded 2-player co-op mode. Thanks for watching!
ZEUSDAZ hi :) funny thing is, my friend who I used to play this game with, 20 years ago, sits in a next room atm, but my spectrum was lost during the process of life... thanks for upload, u doing a good thing here, subscribing :) enjoy the Cristmass
Thought you were going to say your mate got shook to death by a giant scouser, LOL. This was the best game ever made at the time (1988). My high score is 315400 - killed by end boss on 2nd meeting.
Who else remembers the cheat where you just type a load of rubbish into the high score board, and then you go back into the game with infinite lives :) :)
After playing and losing all your lives, you will be at the top of the high-score table, hold shift + 0 or delete so the top row fills with zeros and goes on to the next line until no more 0s will fit. Press enter and you will have infinite lives and energy when you next play :)
As long as you filled at least one or two lines with characters in the high score screen, it would give you infinite lives. I seem to remember we used to just tap in anything. It didn't seem to matter what you typed.
17:55 great tense battle with the giant Scouser - always nervy! I heard a real (Irish?) recording of the pub level music on a RUclips vid once, so I think Biasillo stole it.
This is one game I WILL play these days .. and there are many others that have stood the test of time HEad over Heels is another and Batman 3D I can't be the only one that was sidetracked by girls and other stuff back in the day and only played these games half heartedly instead of going for completion ... Time to get back to it anyone else with me on this one?
Absolutely, the disaster of the double dragon conversion on the Spectrum was soon forgotten about once this beauty came along. Now check out TR+! ruclips.net/video/GDEKYL_YykE/видео.html
Just finished repairing and modding a +2 - Lot's of outputs / inputs so that I can load converted TZX files and save my old tapes :) Repaired the damaged case and bolted the keyboard back into place too :) >>>>Long Live SPECCY
+Shaggy Daz I think hitting with te sharp end for an 80's game would have got it banned,...remember Barbarian?! That was banned in Germany. Have you checked out Target Renegade+ ?! It's shown on my main channel page under the Renegade section :-)
+Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel yeah I do, and the gimp thing that kicked the head across the screen, but it was okay to whack someone with a mace in this game? Either way, I loved both games.
Maybe It's that way because It's all about his brother being murdered after the first game and this is a sad dangerous story and mission that his brother must embark on.
I assume you mean the +2?! For me It's always the toastrack as you can plug any external tape deck / cd player / MD player or any MP3 player into them to load games as long as you use jack plugs. The tape decks on the +2 are not reliable.
+Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel +2, yes, that's correct! :) I only have the 48K version yet so the toastrack seems to be the best model to advance with! Thank you!
The way the graphics were done meant they quickly ran out of sprites so 2 player was never an option sadly. The high res overlays ate up so many sprites unfortunately.
This was the game of our school year back in the day, everyone was playing it who had the chance. Have you seen the update Target Renegade+ ?! It's on my channel, 5 brand new levels!
Fucking good game pitty double dragon and the sequels wernt as good. Those other black and white graphics games had no excuses for the spectrum judging by this brilliantly made game well done Imagine. Not just a great song by John Lennon!
Yep it was a terrible moment, I always play Target Renegade+ (new levels) after this, different backgrounds and higher difficulty,...the true Renegade III imo, It's on my channel.

Cool Target Renegade shades, ZX Spectrum style!
This is still a masterpiece of gameplay and music. Im here for the music after all these years.
I'm not gonna lie, the music in this game sounds like auditory torture. It's just so high pitched it hurts my ears. The spectrum had much better music in other games, i.e. LED Storm, Robocop, Outrun.
Level 1 music is beautifully haunting. I used to play this and just listen to the music..the memories are ridiculous.
Easily one of my fav games, stay tuned as I will be uploading a "let's play" of this with commentary :-)
+Karl Taylor Ditto - the music was fantastic. I remember it occasionally went wrong and the notes started hanging, it was like experimental ambient chiptune music.

Yep I pretty much gave up when PS3 came out, nothing but mostly soldier fps games,...just not for me, give me Chuckie Egg and Target Renegade all day!
Phenomenal game! Two player was superb, an all time favourite of mine
Yep, this and the prequel easily the best 8-bit versions, so playable and yeah the 2 player co-op mode on target made this game sooooo much better than Double Dragon,...shame the franchise eneded with Renegade III...yuk.
Alexander Humphrey 2 player mode ruined my life for a good while , first major obsession that effected sleep and schooling. lmao

Damn straight :-)
Part 1 was ok, part 3 was the anti climax of all anti climax’s
thanks so much for this, I'm on a serious nostalgia trip tonight
+Roger Melee
No problem, you may like T. Renegade+ ?! ruclips.net/video/GDEKYL_YykE/видео.html
I'm travelling down memory lane as I watch the gameplay!
aaahhh the hours I spent on that game... could not get enough of it
The portable TV in my room was b/w and I was only ever allowed hook my speccy up to the colour tv at Christmas time. This, and 2 player Ikari warriors were my all time favourites 👍✌️

Love that music in level two. :)

This was my favourite beat em up on the spectrum. Great music
Probably the game that made me love videogames, I was not even a teenager when it was released XD
Couldn't have picked a better game or version of it!
Over 30 years since i played this but that music came back in an instant❤
Yep, once again a game that rolls around after completing the game. All great games should be gifted with an equal great end-sequence.
Fun and simple times. Thanks for the memories.
No probs.
Man. I wonder if subsequent generations understand how we got gaming to what it is today. What a time we lived through.
2 player was amazing and was iconic as street fighter back in the day
Damn staright! :-D
Who else remembers the cheat where you just type a load of rubbish into the high score board, and then you go back into the game with infinite lives :) :)
what????
I remember. 😂
Yeah! The number of characters was unlimited, and when i typed some garbage in it, the screen goes bright, and you´re god mod! hehe. Nice memories!
After playing and losing all your lives, you will be at the top of the high-score table, hold shift + 0 or delete so the top row fills with zeros and goes on to the next line until no more 0s will fit. Press enter and you will have infinite lives and energy when you next play :)

I only ever played this at my cousins house.. he only had a 48k.. never heard the music.. that's awesome.
first game I ever finished. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!
No problem, feel free to check out the channel :-)
A trip to an ancient past!! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, feel free to look round this channel and sub if you really like it :-)
One of my favorite zx games.
Like a night out in Wolvo 🤩
Ha lol, my old stomping ground every saturday around 18yrs ago when visiting a mate and one of the few girls up there I was seeing :-)
That was too close... Only in Target Renegade you could find that bad-ass boss who could squeeze the life out of you in the matter of seconds!
And that's how a game boss should be :-)
17:55 great tense battle with the giant Scouser - always nervy! I heard a real (Irish?) recording of the pub level music on a RUclips vid once, so I think Biasillo stole it.
MR .Big in the C64 was the most menacing looking, it's on my channel, take a look!
My all time favourite game as a kid.
Good choice!
@@ZEUSDAZ this and the Dizzy games
this game was amazing for its time, amazing !!
Still is, just as fun playing it today, check out my Target Renegade+ upload,...new levels.
Used to play this religiously
We all did!
That guy with the gun on level 2 took all your health if shot.
He's very useful taking his own girls out if you line up with his bullets :-)
My favorite game in my childchood.
Tip: Q, A, O, P - agreed, but never use space bar as fire (too unresponsive), use the up cursor ^ to the right of it. ;)
This was as close to Double Dragon as we got for a decent beat em up 😎😎
Absolutely, the disaster of the double dragon conversion on the Spectrum was soon forgotten about once this beauty came along.

Ay men.
When he is choking you is there a button tap to shake him off?
Nope, once MR. Big grabs you your life is over!
wow Im' suprised how playable this game is on ZX.
The quintessential version mate, brilliant game especially in 2 player mode, the 128k version is best.
I loved this game, never could understand why the character hit the opponents with the wrong end of the axe within the park level.
+Shaggy Daz
I think hitting with te sharp end for an 80's game would have got it banned,...remember Barbarian?! That was banned in Germany.

+Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel yeah I do, and the gimp thing that kicked the head across the screen, but it was okay to whack someone with a mace in this game? Either way, I loved both games.
He simply didn't want to make it fatal.
Wasn't a bad game at all, pretty cool, but still think the first Renegade 128 version was the best out the series.
Glorious!
Thanks very much.
This is supposed to be an action game. Why the music from stage 1 sounds so sad? :,c
Maybe It's that way because It's all about his brother being murdered after the first game and this is a sad dangerous story and mission that his brother must embark on.
Моя любимая игра
Which 128K Spectrum model do you have?
+Niklas Pihl
I own 2x 128k+1 toastracks, they are the best and load 99% of all games weather It's 48k or 128k games :-)
+Zeusdaz - The Unemulated Retro Game Channel Thank you! Which model do you recommend the most? The 128+ or the toastrack model?
I assume you mean the +2?! For me It's always the toastrack as you can plug any external tape deck / cd player / MD player or any MP3 player into them to load games as long as you use jack plugs.

Nice tunes!
My favorite is the one at level 4.
This time you showed Mr. Big who's the boss!
The ending is disappointing compared with the C64 version.
The way the graphics were done meant they quickly ran out of sprites so 2 player was never an option sadly. The high res overlays ate up so many sprites unfortunately.
Fuck me I played Renegade to death and then this came out, loved playing 180, Cobra, Green Beret and combat school in those days
This was the game of our school year back in the day, everyone was playing it who had the chance.
Have you seen the update Target Renegade+ ?! It's on my channel, 5 brand new levels!
@@ZEUSDAZ No, will def give that a look, cheers mate.

yeah... with 128 kilobytes you get "CONGRATULATIONS" at the end, not a 10 minute pre rendered movie ;)
Thank god for the flying kick

Fucking good game pitty double dragon and the sequels wernt as good. Those other black and white graphics games had no excuses for the spectrum judging by this brilliantly made game well done Imagine. Not just a great song by John Lennon!
No doubt if you had a spectrum you must have this game along with Renegade otherwise there's something wrong with you.
Stunning classic!
Meh, it was either black and white games or bad colour clash! Take your pick.
Best ending ever
Best 8-bit beat'em-up ever! :-D
Great game
Cheers.
Shout out to the non emulating gamers. Great vid.
First enemy is nails 😂
Funny they don't make street fighting games anymore.
I had this game on both the spectrum +2 and commodore 64 and the spectrum version is much better.
Spectrum version best of the best, C64 version stunning soundtrack.
Check this out: ruclips.net/video/2aNdVIlJZbs/видео.html
What a let down Renegade 3 was after this. It was like following the Empire Strikes back with the Phantom Menace 😩
Yep it was a terrible moment, I always play Target Renegade+ (new levels) after this, different backgrounds and higher difficulty,...the true Renegade III imo, It's on my channel.
La versión spectrum mejor gráficamente que cpc que también es una buena version
I would grind this game for hours. Good game for it's time.
Wow this is Streets of Rage before it ever existed
This is better :-D
l34052 you mean double dragon which is a spin off of renegade
l34052 i use too love this game,i just realised im fucking old
Utah saints u-u-u-utah saint's!
The less powerful machine, with the worse color handling, and yet still the best game version, even against the much newer NES.
Que recuerdos.. (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;)💦
This game was the absolute shit in its time.
The sound FX are so bad. Omg the music is literally ruined.
Well it's a damn sight better than the cpc version lol, that version is an ugly joke.
The C64 version had an incredible soundtrack on this game.
