The Arcade feels whole again. Taking a break from staring at walls of hexadecimals to catch up on the vids. The quantum looks great in the corner really fills that hole nicely. I also like the idea of a TMNT restore project. I have so many fond memories of playing that game at ShowBiz Pizza.
Fun to be in the moment with you John .🎰🎲🎮
Your guys music is awesome! I just bought your album on Itunes the other day. I graduated high school in 92 and loved arcades. I grew up in Maine but now live in New Mexico. We would have definitely been friends back in the day. Robotron was my most-played game!. Keep up the good work!
Have the same issue on my Joust and putting off the fix, need to get a molex crimper fast. Great video John!!!
John, really dig the channel! Now I need a ROBOTRON!
Thanks! Robotron rulez
I miss John's Arcade videos :(
Nice Vid John,Robotron is a TRUE Classic an Amazing game
Finish that power supply rebuild, including that cap kit. RAM and ROM errors come up when there's power issues on those Williams games. Good to see you repair the original supply. I've been kinda lazy over the years and just replaced them with switchers. That will make it bullet proof, though.
If wiggling fixes the power problem then I personally wouldn't have exchanged the pins and connector. Rather I would have installed a hamster. Yes, a hamster, John. Think bout it, hamsters wiggle a lot, specially when you turn on the machine and the connector gets hot. Then you can bet that baby is going to wiggle something fierce. Then the wiggling would fix the game, hey presto! All you'd need is a feeder next to the coin toss to keep the hamster going. It's genius if I say so myself.
Swing and a miss
The sounds on Robotron are the boss
Great detail on the fixes!
Cool seeing Matt...and the album is awesome!
Would be cool getting an autographed copy, but I know you mentioned the cd is no longer available.
Easy to remove pins from the headers. I use an old Radio Shack desoldering iron (one with the suction bulb) mounted in a vice with the hole in the tip pointing up. Heat up the iron, put the pin to be pulled into the desoldering iron hole, count to ten, grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and the pin pulls out as if the plastic is melted butter.
Seriously fucking hilarious that you STILL have those crimpers. Hahahahahaha. XD
Good thing Buffet has extra crimpers!!!
Hey John, the 4j2 connector that you were touching to get the +5v led back on does not have anything to do with the +5v operation. You may have a problem with connector 4j4 to the regulators on the big heat sink. This would cause the +5v led to fail. As you said they all need to be swapped when time allows. Great channel!
OK. I am hoping you have screws out for work on the board. You HAVE to have those screws in for proper grounding across the power board. You are on point with the connectors. I always use Trifurcon when I replace the pins and headers. I also did recap and replace the bridge rectifiers on all of my WMS games. Since doing that, my Robotron, Joust and Sinistar all have run solid for the past ~15 years since I did the work. Old Willys really don't like switchers - there's not enough filtration on the MPU board to handle the "dirty" power that a switcher makes. Install the rest of your screws. Do it right and the game will treat you well for many years.
And I replace my batteries each year.
Good luck getting your Robo back to 100%. It is one of the best "player's games" ever made.
John you need to come too wildwood remember when arcade on the mall it has loads of classic arcade and pins and the owner is a arcade lover
Good info! Hopefully my Robotron stays alive!!
Such an intense game. Not seen it to play in any arcade for years, all the arcades on the UK coast are all the ticket games etc, or massive sit down driving stuff. Not like it used to be :( The last time I played a version of Robotron was on the N64 with it's hardcore gabber soundtrack. Fun game no matter the platform it's on.
Hey John, good video! I'm getting ready to do this on my stargate logic board as a precautionary measure and this bolstered my confidence a bit. In your experience is cold weather (freezing and below) bad for the games/monitors?
Awesome! Hopefully it stays alive now!
We are being spoilt with videos 👍🏻
I was thinking the same. haha
Hey john .... fair playz to you for swapping the molex - changing those things man is NOT a good time!! - just got myself the 19 in 1 and have been enjoying robotron not a bad emulation of it on there, would you say? cheers buddy oh and by the way ... GIVE THAT POPCORN MACHINE SOME LOVE BUDDYBOY hehehe
+Pigeon OnA Deathwish lol. Robotron is indeed awesome. Glad to hear it's good in the 19 in 1. Pop Corn Machine soon.
Hello John Can we say a big hello to you and tell you how much we Love Love Love your videos.
Sure. Hi! And, thank you! :)
Hey John. Your problem with Robotron is you tend to shoot in the same direction you move.
Hey John, In response to your camera cutting out from time to time. I have had and sometimes seen others have the problem that when recording at 1080p 60Hz if the SD card is of cheep brand it cant handle the data rates so drops out. Not saying this is deffo happening to you just thought id pass on my experience. Good to see Matt again dude.
+craig gilchrist I think it's the SD card. It did it before and I formated and verified it and it stopped. Old card.
Hi John out of interest what do you reckon your power usage is when the arcade is on .....
Re hack job the worse thing anybody can do with any job is add a time limit things truly go tits up once the rush factor is in effect
Ok. Unrelated to the video, but totally related to Robotron. Why are these games so damn hard to find? When I used to play Robotron in high school and college, nobody liked it. I, and a couple of my friends, loved it, but everyone else was all about Stargate, Tempest and such. When did it become so popular?
It seems like I picked the wrong time to decide I want one.
21:54 The lesson here is "don't try to save time by skipping on adding fresh solder to start with, you'll just wind up wasting more time trying to get the pins out."
True dat. :)
I'm getting one of these fr free :D
John, can you please show me exactly what you ordered to fix this issue and where you got it? Parts number, webpage etc...
I have this exact same issue and when I got the game the wires were Soldered directly to the pins (still are) and all the plastic that burns up is gone. I need to do the same fix you as you just performed.
Thanks!
+whompmaster I updated the description with links. Hope that helps.
OMG this stuff is expensive!! Kidding...
Thanks!
Hey john are you ever gonna put out the BroFest videos or is it pretty much D.O.A at this point?
+33kingnaz yes. I will. I have about four on the road vids in the can.
are you ever going to return that tool and get your own John?
speaking of Buffett (buffet? bufett?) I literally just shipped my burned electrohome G07 to him
2:43 You found the electronic shit stain!
There were deep chimes at 47:14. What game did that come from?
+Red Guy just guessing. But probably Midnight Madness leaderboard on Ghostbusters
funny i just got this problem in my defender.
Well there's your problem, they were trying to get a round peg in a square hole!
you need another fund raiser for a guest microphone .
How about the 'Bob Barker stick mic' model? ;P
Fix the 2nd connector later for safty's sake

wow i'm early 26 views
guess you never really used solder wick? always talk about solder pulller things but never solder wick? is there a reason don't like that. why did you cut the plastic connector when they pins look like the slide out kinda easy looking at 25:00. the right way might have been just pushing the pin out.
+james42519 I haven't used solder wick since high school. I like the current tools we have now better.

First!
Please tell me you indeed have a black dog
do you believe the europe continent exist or the earth iz flat ?
I have heard of this place but only in books.
Hmm, sloppy editing... j/k bud!
No, it's true. :) The camera kept stop recording. I don't get it. I think my SD card is corrupted. I also did this all very quick. It was a rush job!
Totally get it. I'm back-logged as well with editing vids on my channel. So much footage!
you have a creepy laugh. ..
All that work to save that piece of shit power supply?
Why not pull that old piece of shit power supply out? A failure from that power supply can burn up your boards.
