I think life would be a bit extreme. But they certainly deserve equivalent sentences to what others have received for the same crime. The repercussions on their lives are the consequence of their crimes. Anyone sentenced to incarceration has compelling reasons why it is inconvenient for them. That is what makes the sentence punitive.
