If you like engine vs engine, I feel colonies + Venus + promos balance out how OP AI central is by the fact that there are many other card draw cards.

Yeah and there's Pluto too. It's definitely the most op when yo only play base game.

Very interesting ideas. Will try to implement them. My group plays with a Corp and prelude draft every game but we sort of solved the issue you mentioned where you like to see everything. We lay out the corps and preludes in the middle and add 1 extra of both then give everyone their 10 cards. Then from the first player on we draft corps by buying them. So first player bids say 0 on Tharsis, then everyone can try to outbid them and the money comes from the starting ME of the Corp. And if you pass you are out for the whole draft. That way more powerful corps can end up costing more which may give more value to the less valuable corps. Then for preludes we do a snake draft from the first player and back with the last picking two in a row. We have found it still gives you the ability to get a Corp you can use but also adds some more stakes to the Corp draft. Give it a shot!

That is very interesting. I actually had a few ideas about auctions similar to how terra mystica does it. If you havent played I suggest you checkout the way they added it to the rules and basically made the game more balanced. They do it with VPs instead of money which would be an interesting thing to do in mars as well.
I will try this next time i play, thanks for the comment!

    10) I don't like. I feel they are an integral part of the map. Desert Settler would just be wrong on a map with luscious placement boni on the bottom half.
    9) For me (and my groups) it's intuitive that we don't draft corps, but we sure do draft preludes.
    8) There will come a new type of cards that do this, stay in play out the generation, and then be removed (not sure if removed from play or go into the played event pile). I always liked the idea that the event was face up during your whole turn, so you could get to do ONE more action with the tags it provided

Yeah you have a point for 10. For sure it can end with some unbalanced scenarios, but that's ok for a house rule, they are mostky meant to add some variation to the game, and additionally, some of those scenarios already exist, like tharsis on the base map.
And yeah i love throwing 8 in every few games. It's is probably one of the lesser known house rules in this list.
