Sometimes in order to cut back in expensive Transmission expenses is to switch Your First Gear to Reverse. Both are the same and guide the Tractor at the same speed. If not - divide the Tractor and inspect First Gear’s Bearing and then take the Transmission’s
Box apart. While you’re at it, might be an idea to add the Sherman System (Overdrive) to your Tractor. You’ll have more speed which you might both enjoy and with added performance. Good Luck!

Most tractors of the 30s, 40s, and 50s have one thing in common: transmission whine. A certain amount of whine is not unusual. When the whine starts sounding a little "crunchy" or gets louder, you have a serious problem. Draining, flushing, and refilling the transmission sometimes helps quite a bit.

Great job on the box plow. My problem with box plows is that I have never learned to use one properly. Everyone just takes off on them and they work. When I do it, they dig in and tear ups the area I'm trying to level. Everything on those things pulls down, the blades and the claws dig in and it just makes things worse.
Wanna give a few lessons on how to get those to work?
Great video. I love real-life videos that aren't rehearsed and things go wrong. Overcoming problems make them outstanding. Keep it up.

I just noticed that you do not have the steering wheel knob installed correctly.
It's supposed to clamp around one of the spokes of the steering with one of those flat tabs riding on the edge of the steering wheel to keep it facing the right direction.
The tab that is bent down more is supposed to be pointing towards the center of the steering wheel.
That way there's nothing sticking out from the steering wheel to snag clothing or scrape your legs.

''Have i got the knowledge/apptitude/intelligence/balls to try to fix this---(SMALL!!)---Briggs Engined Lawn mower/ equally SMALL grass strimmer/weed eater?''

''Is it gonna maim/seriously injure or possibly send me to the next world before my time...especially the electrical system, when I'm fixing it?'' LoL!!
Seriously, I realised very quickly whilst watching your videos that literaly NOTHING is beyond us, and that if you fail, then try again, and again, and again, until you DON'T fail!

Hello Darrel, glad to see someone enjoying an old 8n I know them well. Drove one on a farm for years. I am afraid the noise you are hearing is your pilot bearing and throw out bearing. If you work those old tractors hard you cause were on the trans input and output shafts and they will cause alot of end play on shifting shafts whitch is the movement in your shifter in reverse.. those shafts are backing off the worn area of the non work side of your end play wear in forward. Sorry but you are going to have some work ahead of you in that trans. She's been worked pretty hard my friend. But hang in there. She'll be like new again with youre tenacity.. plan on making up some oil impregnated bushings for you gear carrier shafts all it is, maybe a main transfer gear she's old and she worked hard it seems most of that life. I love that you are on an acreage that is something I always wanted and you have ducks that is something I always wanted and your into 8NS I am also and you are into welding and fabricating I enjoy that also! But I noticed that you have a very steady hand I don’t, I have tremors so I need a very short rod and two hands on the stinger and a lot of concentration! But you can really lay a bead! It’s good to see a young guy like you living the dream! You did an excellent job on the box blade and also on fixing the chains on your 3PTH. And the sleeves and pistons will store for a while as long as they are not in humidity so you can get more mileage on your engine so you don’t have to rush rebuilding it.
One thing I wanted to ask is does the 8N still have a noise if you turn off the PTO? That might help you isolate your noise issue. Just a thought. Keep your videos coming I will be giving it a thumbs up 👍 keep them coming and God bless you and your family!

@@mwilliamshssome people add hydraulics to those.

    • @mwilliamshs
      @mwilliamshs 5 месяцев назад

@TF856 people add a lot of things to a lot of things. 8Ns come with hydraulics. They're not live hydraulics so the hydraulic top link suggested by some dope would lose its pressure and thus its position when the clutch pedal was pressed. The hydraulics on an 8N also don't have any remotes so there's no control or connection for the top link. A pump, reservoir, control valve, cylinder, filter and hoses to connect them COULD be added but it's pointless. The idiocy of suggesting all that as "you really need" is not only asinine but indicative of ignorance.

You might have to use stay chains to control the height of the box blade. I know I would need them on my '52 as it needs hydraulics work. Love the 8n vids. I've been watching them for 2 1/2 hours now.

Again do not use the top holes of top link for plowing or blade work, the top is only for extremely light draft like a cultivator. Many fords are missing that three hole top link end because of that it will break easily.
