I met Shane in 2002 when I took a large group of profoundly disadvantaged kids to a cricket workshop in Sydney. I only spoke to Shane for a minute. Shane was focused on the kids and not really interested in talking to me. I remember him as being a very nice person and he was so great with the children. The kids that I had in my charge that day reflected fondly on the event for years. A real shame that Shane has passed. 5 years younger than me and way to young to pass away. He was a real gentleman, and showed very real and genuine interest in the welfare of those kids.
His family should be very proud of him. I am sure they are.

When you watch something for the first time, something different, something so outrageously different and incredible it is hard to fathom. That is how great that delivery from Shane Warne was. The speed of the ball was greater than that of other “spinners”. In fact it seems wrong to call Shane Warne a spinner. I don’t think he was a spinner, he was so so much more than that. Shane Warne at his absolute peak encapsulated so much more than simply being a spin bowler. It was in essence everything and yes you’re right he didn’t try to hide it.

Great to see Dickie, another legend. As an ex-wkeeper i can assure everyone that being behind the stumps to Warne would be the pinnacle of wicket keeping. Can be tough against a club leg spinner coz they have far less control, but against Warne over 5 days, then years of test matches it would be ridiculously hard to not look like an absolute goose many many times, and then have embarassing mistakes immortalised on video forever. Ian Healy and later Gilchrist must have worked so hard to make it look relatively easy working with Warne. You need to read it from his hand plus all the signals he'd give you, and to be unsighted when pitching on leg stump or wider and relying only upon instinct to judge how much spin it would take. Some of his deliveries would grip and rip and others bounce or scoot thru low....plus that amazing drift thru the air he got that could get any batsman start to play it down the wrong line. The two greatest w/keepers i've seen were Knott and Healy. Equally superb. RIP the greatest spinner ever seen. He had an aura about him. A true Cricket God.
