Exploring The Urban Legends of Grand Theft Auto IV

- The Grand Theft Auto franchise has always had its fair share of myths and legends; stories that when scrutinised don't appear to hold much truth but nonetheless remain compelling. I decided to single out Grand Theft Auto IV and explore some of its more interesting myths, not to prove nor disprove them but rather simply to explore their value when applied to Rockstar Games on a broader scale. Please enjoy.

4 has always been the creepiest to me. The introduction of fluid enterable buildings combined with all the abandoned places, like the casino, the hospital and all the others all combine to make a “dead” atmosphere that oozes tension.
Something about the graphics are also just really creepy to me
there’s a casino in 4??
@@user-jh1jt9lo7iIt’s called Alderney Casino
@@user-jh1jt9lo7iright 😂
@@user-jh1jt9lo7iyeah. I believe it’s a run down building that homeless people are living in on a dock somewhere? I could be wrong, been a while
Ratman has always been my favourite GTA 4 urban myth
I'm immensely fond of that one myself, I don't believe it even slightly but it's cool
@@Fizhy Me too he’s not real, but if they ever do a GTA 4 remake/remaster it would be cool if they added him.
@@Adam_X78 I'd like to see the Ratman actually appear somehow in a future incarnation of Liberty City
@@Fizhysounds like a great idea for gta7... 😂
@@Fizhyhe needs to just be lurking and hiding in the shadows though, if they make it too obvious it would ruin the magic imo
4 has always been more "horror" to me than other Gta games. The dark setting, the dark story, the statue of happiness is truly horrifying, the "rat man" the random dead bodies in the tunnels, the baby pram, Eddie low.....it's definitely got the creep factor
it's insane how many of these urban legends rockstar took and put into red dead redemption 2
i hope we get more in gta 6. i’m crossing my fingers for rat man.
@@vincemastaTRIPLE69420 It would be a sin of there wasn't a supernatural element in a GTA game
@@zaimbaig5832yeah I hope despite how colorful Vice City activities will be. I hope mysteries will be darker from all Rockstar games.
@@zaimbaig5832well they had literal aliens in 5 so I think it's fair to say you should get your hopes up. There will probably be a ghostbusting game mode for online where you spray down spirits or zombies or some shit. I think 4 did its spookier elements far better, way WAY in the background to the point of genuine obscurity like with ratman
We are. Theres been leaks myths creature's will come in gta 6@@vincemastaTRIPLE69420
Surprised you didn't mention the abandoned Sprunk factory. I remember people saying they saw ghosts inside it. Never saw one myself, but there's no denying that the atmosphere in there is spooky af. Even if you visit it in the middle of the day.
I've seen weird shadows in there and strange noises but nothing concrete as oh that's a ghost or oh that's a group of vampires having an orgy.
You walk in there and suddenly *boom* you can feel the creepy atmosphere sit on your shoulders. its almost suffocating in there
You will hear voices shouting at you if you shoot inside the abandoned factory, thing is, those are just the bouncers from the strip club nearby. A lot of people took that as proof that the building is haunted.
Pretty sure when he mentions ghosts there is a list of places alleging to be haunted and the sprunk factory was like the 4th one on the list
there was a legend that if you went around and killed every single pigeon in liberty city you were wasting alot of your free time
If anyone can bring genuine enjoyment to the insanity of this decade and a half old masterpiece, it’s Fizhy. Thank you for always putting out amazing content
My pleasure!
Mom look, Fizhy replied to my comment!!
I have to second that, Fizhy truly is the highest authority on the entire annals of Rockstar IP's.
6:09 before he actually gets into the myths for any of you wondering.
Amazing and creepy, because compared to III, the Liberty City in IV seems to have a form of sentience. Both welcoming and forbidding in its various ways.
Why is there no Ratman in Liberty City? Beacause he moved to Aperture Science..

@@ungabunga7879 That would be cool and terrifying
I loved the part when Ratman cried out “I am the Ratman!” And Ratman’d all over the place

@@NigerianCrusader I forgot about portal Ratman, the lore for the portal series is so cool
@@RyanCantBallyep especially the fact that they decided to set it in the same universe as Half-Life and that aperture was competing with black mesa
I remember watching those old school myth hunter videos as a kid and they kept me awake at night lol. Makes me kind of wish these were all real, like you can actually encounter ratman but it’s just extremely rare with a 0.5/chance of him spawning per game load.
Welcome to another video in which I talk about things with visual references
Love it as usual mate
You should play the undead nightmare 2 mod on PC with wendigos skin walkers zombies vampires, and everything
Best intro ever
The scariest part of this game is the internet imo
Sometimes I would go to do a mission and just get caught up reading all of the insane posts on forums or websites in this game, especially since some of the people you can actually encounter like Eddie Lowe having a blog and reading it, and then actually meeting him and realizing "no way is this the guy from online?..."
Always liked that
He gets to the first actual legend at 4 minutes 10 seconds

Coming home from school and the first thing i see is a new video, perfect timing
They call me Fizhy, the Lord of Timing
What’s interesting is the age one discovers the game at, I’m 29, so playing in 2008 with mates after school, the tension certainly wasn’t dead but rather was vibrant & never before seen NPC life, we simply couldnt believe how life like it was/is. likewise while graphics look aged at that time the graphic were simply revolutionary. Combined with great narrative & side characters like little Jacob u can see how elite this game was especially experienced at that time as well as now. I don’t see it as dead but what I would say it there is a gritty atmosphere & gritty dark tone, which I also love. 5 is very very good & fun but this is rare quality
Thanks fizhy! I know it’s not much but it’s all I can give… I really appreciate your content… it has gotten me through the hardest hardships of my life and I appreciate you for it! Keep em coming!
Hey man, there's absolutely no obligation to donate as this is intended as free content so I appreciate your kindness massively!
@@Fizhy hey I know that man but time is precious and all the time that you put into this great content deserves some recognition, and it’s the least I could do after all the quality content you put out, consistently for some time, and the countless times it’s just helped me to tune everything else out for a while. No better red dead content out there and I have been loving all the gta 4 videos of late. All the best man! For real man you have a talent for narration and I’m sure I’ll see (or hear) you on some great documentaries in the future!
I remember when my brother told me about the Tarzan myth and I sat and played the game all night running up and down the train tunnels trying to hear the scream
A… Tarzan… myth?
@@Fizhy yeah man if I remember correctly you would have to find a shrunken head then when you picked it up “Tarzan” was supposed to chase you through the train tunnels screaming and you had to escape to unlock something idk what tho
Love your videos dude. Im getting out of my seasonal depression and have your vids on in the background while I do some spring cleaning. Thanks for all that you do.
20:45 Regarding the "zombies" myth, it's worth pointing out that's it's the one myth that actually has some merit to it. Initially GTA 4 was supposed to another videogame other than QUB3D, which was called Ressurection Z. However, it was cut and the only things that remain of it are some HUD elements and weapon icons of an AK47 and a revolver.
There is also the multiplayer zombie player model, which probably uses the zombie groan sounds in the files (not sure, since I never played multiplayer) but I don't know if it has any relation to Resurrection Z.
Last time i came this early my wife got pregnant
My condolences
Women get pregnant?
The storks don’t deliver the baby’s?
When I tell you that your RDR2 videos convinced me to purchase and play RDR2, I mean that 200%. Your cadence, visual storytelling, and general video production makes me want to play games I’ve never played before. You’re fantastic dude..Anyway, can’t wait to play GTA IV soon.
Love your videos around the “GTA Arc” , feel fresh and refreshing ! Keep up the good work mate !
Ever since I've found you I always. Always enjoy your videos! Keep up your great work man! You are very good at what you do! 🎉
I remember hearing about ratman when I was younger I used to think I might run into it in the subways haha
Oh man childhood meme unlocked cause GTA 4 was always eerie within the city and some neighbourhoods. ID NEVER STOP in the docks or near Bohan. Never walked around Charge island as I felt someone knew Niko was there.
Another great vid as always Fizhy
Been looking forward to this one
'MyRoom' is obviously Myspace, not Facebook. Hence the goth girl claiming shes a vampire, and the page layouts which look exactly like MySpace pages.
4 was my favourite growing up. I remember watching videos after school of rat man, and then I used to be too scared to play the game again lol
I love how these myths force you to explore the game and areas in a totally different way. Even go to areas you would never go to except to find this kind of stuff
Nothing makes my day happier than opening RUclips and seeing new fizhy content.
Tkm Fizhy
That was awsome. Well done fizhy, i love your gta4 Videos
Thank you for the vids
Babe wake up, Fizhy just dropped.
It is I
Love these videos keep it up
Thanks Fizhy savage video sir 🙏
This is going to be an awesome video!!🤘🤘🤘
Love this, please do more of these 😎👍
Of course!
Watching "Thesemyths" as a kid was my intro to so much theory's and myths
this is a video ive been wanting to be done for awhile
5 min intro in a 20 min video is wild dude 😂
maybe the best vid iv'e watched in 1 year
The Subway always gave me the creeps
Well done fizhy ❤️
Big up Fizhy and the GTA Lore 💪
stellar video man
Oh aye sailor
I gotta admit, the one thing I am still somewhat nostalgic for are old urban legend videos on games like GTA
i thought gta 4 content these days was just random game capture clips or underwhelming retrospective videos making the same 3 points about why it was a masterpiece so its refreshing to watch this
Don’t get me wrong I do like a good underwhelming retrospective
There are also spy helicopters they appear when Niko drives over the bridges.
I remember hunting some of these back in the day. Regardless, this is still my favorite gta game so far.
The urban legends of GTA IV have always been very interesting to go back and look at. Ratman is probably the best known myth in GTA IV. Once you hear about Ratman, you never forget about him.
Unforgettable tale
Been really enjoying your GTA 4 content, personally I prefer it to 5.
You forget the greatest myth. Roman used a taxi business as a cover for all of his illegal bowling games he hosted.
This is another great video, looking forward to your next video
Love this
I still remember me getting a helicopter and entering the Statue Of Happiness by accident, and when i climbed that latter and saw the Statue Of Happiness's heart it was insanely creepy i was terrified lol
Same I remember doing it too
True story, if you hang out in one of the cemeteries for 3 in-game days, at exactly 12:00 midnight, you will hear a ghostly Dutch Van Der Linde voice yell out "we need more money" and something about a boat to Tahiti.
You would think with as many times as they have released GTA 5 in the last decade we woulda got this on the PS4 at least once, hell they would make at least a billion letting people play it again on the new systems
Dude it’s like you curate your videos for me
Let’s gooo I didn’t even know there was deep lore on this game
Something smells Fizhy.
Finally a GTA IV myth video
In one of those V/H/S/ movies there was a short story of a similair ratman.
Other than that a great video keep up the great work👍
And greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱
Man I love these gta lore videos 😊 In fact any Rockstar game is always fascinating to me.
The urban legends that players come up with sorta acts a way of players to leave their own marks in the game world.
" you just have to ignore the fact planes exist" actually got me pretty good
I remember spending hours in the tunnels look for ratman lmao.
Liberty City in IV felt oddly foreboding to me, even if I was armed to the teeth. It's as if the soul of the city absorbed the zeitgeist of the era and boiled it down until only the darkest parts remained.
Gta4 online multiplayer changed the game. I grinded to get my level 10. That black helmet was a must have to be less visible and reduce head shots drastically. Where are all my level 10 miltiplayers at??!!
Genuinely can’t think of any other video game franchise that has such a surplus of myths and legends.
Honestly it can be applied to R* games in general, I remember seeing stuff about werewolves and ghosts in Bully.
Can you do a video like this for Red Dead Redemption 2?
I saw the name Aiden O'Malley on the list at the start, about a minute into the video, and I realised that that's the name Dutch uses in chapter 5 of RDR2, I didn't realise until now that it's someone in GTA IV/a reference to GTA IV because I don't know a lot about the ins and outs of GTA IV but it's cool that they did that especially after so long between the games, you gotta have respect for Rockstar
this emanates 2010, yet recent time vibes.
*Man.. I speak for all IV fans when I say we need this*
GTA 4 is the most realistic GTA game ever.
I don’t understand why a lot of people complain about the driving when it’s really easy to drive without it feeling like a Boat.
I don’t know how they manage to crash into everything when I’m holding RT as hard as I can and still can push the breaks LT in time to not hit any cars and can make perfect turns.
Liberty city looks like Gotham city in so much ways and that's what I like about GTA4
I love Batman
Gotham was the original name of New York while it was being indutrialised if I'm not mistaken?
And rockstar love American history. So it's fair to say they had similar inspirations
9:54 A mystical view
The theme song sounds like a remix version of Micheal Myers’s theme song.
I‘m one of those crazy people, who have seen a UFO in GTA San Andreas.
General consensus is that there are no UFOs in GTA SA, except for the airplane lights in the sky.
But i swear i witnessed an actual UFO easteregg. It was somewhere in the general area around the Big Ear. I saw it fly passed above me around the same altitude that planes fly at. It was pretty fast and since the view distance on the ps2 is very limited it vanished quickly. I remember it looked very similar to the one at the Lil Probe Inn, but it had red circles on the bottom side.
I know there have never been found any models or textures for a UFO in the game files, but its shape was so simple it could have been generated from code easily, like it is often done in the demo community. It certainly would be a genius easteregg to put in the game. One that happens so rarely that people think you‘re crazy if you witness it.
Did you go to the pub thats meant to be haunted, went there in july and while im into the supernatural i definitely got earre feeling from it
Do you mean the Golden Fleece?
@@Fizhy that's the one
“A trip to our local TW@“ 🤣🤣
DO OBLIVION URBAN LEGENDS NEXT
Love the myth and legends in the gta games.
just straight to the point man
I hope there'll be a Ratman cult in the subway system in the next LC game. Still no actual sighting or evidence, but a group of people based on the players who have been hunting him for years. In the meantime, maybe an NPC on the street in GTA VI who will claim to have seen him
In most cases it might be a texture things on the graves, but if thats the case there is some kind of other error. as one of them would say "born Jan 20, 1847. Died Jan 17 1843" Most likely an error when the texture was made, but still fun to question if its someone centuries old, or someone that died years before they were born
Dont know if your audio is low a little bit or my headphones suck. Great stuff though
UFO's and "Alien themes" were also present in GTA San Andreas.
I miss that sweet spot of gullibility, the ability to say "thats totally fake" for like three, and then still falling for a bunch of others, maybe running into some smaller thing, building the courage to walk to a part of the map and wait, even if it results in nothing.
I love these kinda videos as i start indie DEVing, i want to hide this kinda shit in all my projects.
I remember watching a video on RUclips about the rat man it was of a player in the subway tunnel and I watched the RUclips video but I didn't think it was real
When you look at it the way i do, there is no serial killers in the gta or rdr series that isnt me
Fair enough
i need this game for PS5 , miss it so much
Stevie White would love this
I know for a fact the Kate McCreary ghost is real it's most certainly a glitch but I remember as a kid playing this game and doing the revenge ending after so many ingame weeks I got a call from her asking to hangout trippiest thing that's happened to me in gta4
Should have looked at the textures in OpenIV for the graveyard
Can’t say I’m familiar with it
I believe the textures change in the lost and the damned but I really can't remember, but you could use a tool to see what the Graves really say@@Fizhy
