I had the privilege to watch the Bruins and Orr growing up. Every time he touched the puck you were anticipating him going the length of the ice to produce a Bruins goal.
I know we all age..hell I was 10 years old then, now 34… but to see Gretzky, in what looks like his 70’s now… a completely old man.. hurts inside a little. I’m seeing Alex Ovechkin, lose his abilities and speed right now in his late 30’s. & Ovi, is one of the best to ever do it.
@@UPREDSNAKE what have you been walking around by tunnel the last 25 years ??? Tiger is still HUGE and the others are retired. Pretty dumb comment sir snake.
I watched my Pens that game. I was choked up watching the Great One skate his last skate. I recorded it (VHS 😂) and when I went to watch it again during the summer, my wife had recorded Blue’s Clues and kids shows over it!
This was a very strange week in America in late April 1999. I remember I just happened flip this game on as a 3rd grader on one of the 6 channels my dad had at the time to catch the end of this not knowing it was his final game. Then two days later Columbine happened. Then a few days later I saw Fernando Tatis hit two grand slams in one inning.
@@traitoR142 Sure he is. He had 5 goals and 9 assists last season. Gotta do your research my man before you comment and look like a fool LOL You must not follow hockey
No matter which team You rooted for, if you didn’t like Gretzky there was something wrong with you. I wasn’t a fan of any of the teams that he played on, but at the time this brought tears to my eyes.
I was thinking the same thing, 25 years, say it ain't so. Time really does fly. I saw a blip on youtub about Family Guy's 25th anniversary. WHAT? Family Guy has been around for 25 years and it's still on the air? It's just hard to believe.
KEN DANIELS would be saying at that moment "Smith from NY Rangers is clapping his hands. Smith was drafted 31st 7 years ago, and smith scores 18 points, in 23 games, and scratched his ass before sleeping last night". Ken GPT Daniels lol - luckily not there to ruin this one
The announcers were GREAT in those days. Now they blab. Blab about dumb things. The guy doing ESPN playoffs OR especially our Ken Daniels in Detroit. This moment could be happening and they'd be saying "This summer that team will have 5 free agents" and when puck is in play Ken Daniels would be saying "That player was drafted 31st overall in Hartford in 2012 and he ate 3 slices of pizza, on the 3rd of the month, and scratched his ass 3 times today"
"You're simply the best, better than all the rest" the 80s were high scoring, regardless 99 was miles ahead of anyone else for nearly a decade. Today Ovi should be regarded as the best ever goal scorer, however Ovi is perhaps top 10 in best players. As an overall player in the same era Crosby is better than Ovi - my thoughts on top 5 all-time 99 #1 66#2 4 #3 9 #4 68 #5

I was never a hockey fan..until the Great One took the ice. I watched as many games of his as I could. THAT is what makes him the greatest like a Jordan. He makes fans out of playing his sport and people that dont even like hockey watch because they know something great could happen every game. I never went back to hockey after this. I saw the best. What more is there? Same with the NBA. I saw Michael play. You can have your favorite like Kobe, LeBron, etc. But they both patterned their game after MJ. Now MLB is different. I have seen the greatest as some positions (Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Ted Williams) but there are people that are almost there like Tony Gwynn, Greg Maddux (one of the greatest)..there can always be someone who takes it to another level. just my opinion.
“I saw the best. What more is there to see?” If you mean this in the sense that you think no one will dominate the league like Gretzky again, then I get it. But if you loved watching Gretzky because he was the most skilled player ever at that point, then there is just as good of a reason to watch hockey now (McDavid). Hope you understand this isn’t a dig on Gretzky at all, it’s just a consequence of the fact that the modern era has presented McDavid with many advantages Gretzky never had. Anyway, obviously you can feel however you want to feel. I just know a lot of older hockey fans have said watching McDavid reminds them of what it felt like to watch Gretzky. I wouldn’t know, I’m only 27, but I do know that watching McDavid produces this feeling of appreciation(?)… like I’m getting to experience something that people will read about for decades to come. Maybe give hockey a shot again if you ever feel like it :)

Gretzky, Orr, Howe and Lemieux. You pick the order of these greats, but they are the top 4 hockey greats regardless of one's personal order.
