- A Silent Hill 2 remake is on the way and I don't really get it. Well, I mean I do. People will pay for it in droves. But here are my disorganized thoughts anyway.

To also be fair to Konami, getting the og team together would almost be impossible rn due to most of them working on their own stuff. I wish Sony talked to Konami and got them to work with blupoint

Nothing wrong with a remake, they can release the old game with the new one. There's always room for improvement
I just want Silent Hill series on steam.
Im little bit worried and excited at the same time.. I love original SH2, it changed me forever, real fog doesnt look the same anymore 😉 I dont want a masterpiece turn into something mediocre but thinking that it can deliver the same feelings but in new skin is temptating. Anyway PS2 wersion is there all the time. Dont want to play remake? Dont do it. No one forces You. Im sure i will try it anyway. Im aware that it is not SH2, its SH2 Remake.
Yeah, I mean I'll definitely play it out of curiosity if nothing else. But I'm certainly open to having a great time with it if it turns out great 🙂
The problem is it is not accessible easily. That was fixed with RE4.
A port of the original silent hill 2 would be an infinitely easier and more respectful way to solve that problem for SH2. Like how RE4 has been available on literally everything since it released.

@@SOLIDSNAKE. Played and finished the original SH2 four times recently, and I don't see what's so great about the voice acting. It's no different from any game of that era. Great story though. So voice acting in remake won't be any different.
I'm pretty excited about the remake of SH2. I like the original game a lot and I'll play it anyday, but I'm also not naïve. Like there are a lot of younger people who aren't going to play a game with Tank Controls. They just aren't. Some of the limitations of the game at the time it came out make it inaccessible to newer audiences. Some people won't mind going back to appreciate the game, but other people will. In the same way the average person isn't gonna sit down and watch an old Black and White film that's pretty much something only movie buffs do. That's why a lot of older films have been remade or reimagined because the original just isn't accessible to modern audiences.
I mean you can be mad about that and hate it I guess, but it's sorta always been the way of things.
A remake is usually made to improve on the shortcomings the original had that prevented it from being good. Technical limitations, plotholes, etc. But, that's not the case for SH2.
Even the old graphics ADD to the eerie, otherworldy and nightmarish style of the game. Just look at all these successful indie games, that uses retro-aesthics to their advantage. Puppet Combo for example.

I will be interested in a remake as I never played the original- I know, I know, you are shocked to your very CORE! But, I was a "Resident Evil" guy and I had actually never heard of SH until long afterward. That's like a Coke drinker (who isn't super ethnocentric about Coke) saying they never tried Pepsi because they never heard of it HAHA!

All we needed was Bluepoint to work on the port of Silent Hill 2 to make it the ultimate version without reinventing the wheel.
A game does not need a reason to get a remake, sometimes its for upgrade
Lololol I already don't like it half the charm of sh2 is the story! With those voice actors! This thing was DEAD ON ARRIVAL! or else I must ask.. What's the difference between silent hill and any other good horror game? For example silent hill f looks nothing like silent hill.. So what makes it that? The title? Don't get me wrong I'm the most excited for f! So I agree that those developers should be developing new games from the ground up... Imagine remaking metal gear without David hayter and switching up the story? What's the point of remaking ART?
I like to treat F as if it was its own game. Funny enough, since they do have a manga writer on the team....this writer did that "When they cry" manga....I think this game was completely different. Like how 4 was meant to be a new IP, but Konami retrofitted it to be a Silent Hill game.
The point of remaking art now...is to troll us. Personally. Come on. It's Blooper. They suck.
New game > remaking amazing games that never needed a remake and ironically still hold up. Also SH2 (2001) feels like a extremely personal and high budget game.
At least with new games, we can do whatever we want with them. Like Shattered Memories. That one blows.

While it ranges because every game is made differently, let me throw my two cents in.
Silent Hill is a extremely personal project created by the outcasts of employees working at Konami in the early 1990s and middle 1990s. These outcasts worked on games like Earthbound. Basically every game that flopped, these guys were given the b-team games.
Silent Hill was born out of blessing, limitations, art, pure Japanese awesomeness, horror, logic and other cool things. Turning the ps1's weakness into strengths. Even the visuals are amazing and hold up.
Sato, the animator of 1 and 2, did a lot of work on 1 by himself. It was only when he confronted Konami did he not only get credited, but got help and more budget. A lot of people praise Ito, which is fine, he's a good artist too...but Sato made it work. Among other awesome and talented members of the Team Silent people.
So Silent Hill released in 1999 and continues to be epic. At least in my opinion. From outcasts to Legends.
Blooper is like a six grader that steals your homework and passes it off as his own.
Sorry, I adore Silent Hill.
I'm fine with new games! I just think they're remaking two to spite us all.
Actually, you look at Blooper's past, you seriously realize how much they hacked their way into popularity. They were ripping off games way before ripping off P.T.

My "why" question is more along the lines of why start with 2 and not remake 1?

@@Mikeyzom well if they were going to treat shattered memories as the first remake, they should have attached shattered memories to this title too. Or do what RE did and port an HD remaster of Shattered Memories to modern systems to refresh peoples memories of it.

@@Mikeyzom Its totally worth it! But it is a reimagining. Don't expect it to be 1 to 1 like Silent Hill 2 is looking to be.
The question is Why not?
My only question for this is, why not Silent Hill 1 first? The game is always overshadowed by SH2 or SH3. And it sucks.

I would argue that it will be a new game to a ton of people, I look at it through the eyes of my 12 year old nephew who would never play the original silent hill 2 but would eat this one up, old guys like us aren't the future!
You're not wrong. I just don't see why a game has to be new to be playable. I play Atari and NES games that came out way before I was born and I'm fine with them 🤷♂️ but different strokes for different folks I guess!

I'm going to assume they worked really hard over the years and learned a lot when it comes to storytelling, gameplay, artwork, cinematics, etc. They released an amazing teaser which has gameplay in it so I'm not too concerned. It'll be good I'm sure.

Silent Hill probalbly has one of the most toxic fan bases in gaming, like a bunch of pink hared gits constantly and constsntly complaining about everything. If I was Konami I'd say f u all, and continue making money with gambling

With the silent hill remake it’s a strange citation. It looks really good. The team is really good in comparison to other “modern silent hill” games such as downpour komani used a unheard of team to tackle silent hill but after downpour’s release the team shut down. The music is really good like the original silent hill but James’ new voice does not fit the game. The map is intact but the trailer shows of way to much of the important parts of the game that are nearer the end also James is self aware why he is in silent hill which completely fucks with what silent hill 2 is. It definitely has a chance to be something but it’s Konami we are talking about so we should be skeptical. I completely agree that Konami should of made silent hills and not a remake that just is not going to happen because Konamis shitty relationship with kojima. there are some leaks of a team kojima is in who are making a horror game like silent hills.
Bloober team hasn't been super successful with their original games. Also making a remake may tie up resources but the dev can learn from the experience improving future projects. Also they've already been working for 3 years. The game is in the final phase.
I hear Observer is really gone one for them.
I'm excited about my disappointment. Silent Hill's reality is a promise that cannot be kept.

Being a reboot doesn't mean it's not a remake. These aren't exclusive terms. It's being re-made, thus, it is a remake.
It also is a long-dormant franchise, so it is also totally valid to call it a reboot. But that doesn't mean it isn't a remake as well.
@@Johnnygrafx I’m clarifying the terms. Konami explicitly states in text during Transmission that it is being rebooted.
The idea that no one was asking for a remake seems dishonest. We asked for new games which is what we’re getting. Silent Hill 2 remake is a new game.
they also did release 2 and 3 in hd collection fans unhappy about it and wanted more.
The HD collection messed up the game is why people were mad about it.
My opinion is that if you wont like it, then stay away. You lose nothing. This will bring in a newer, younger audience which if Konami gets the $ then we will get more games.

I don't think Silent Hill 2 looks outdated. It still looks stellar as it is.
Just because they got only two of the people back doesn't mean it's a good thing. Where's Takayoshi Sato? The guy who worked on 1 and 2's amazing animation? Where's the original director of 1, 2, 3 or even 4? There are a ton of other amazing people who worked on the series that are not back. Probably were not even asked by Konami.
I think Silent Hill 2 (2001) is a GOAT.
At least with the remake, we can ignore it and stick to the originals. We need new games.
Yup my thoughts exactly. It feels like they're doing the bare minimum with bringing OG devs back just so they can say they did. BUT I'm totally open to having a great time with it. I'm pullin for em.
@@Johnnygrafx Also Sato's work is amazing. He's actually the main reason (at least personally) that Silent Hill started strong with great art design. He also has a BA in oil painting.

You are just a pessimist. Try being thankful that we have new silent hill content. You better never make any videos on the new SH2 if it turns out to be incredible because even if you are thankful it really DOESN'T sound that way
1. You clearly didn't watch the entire video. Or your comprehension skills are basically non-existent. I am clearly thankful and intend to play the game.

New isn’t always better. RE2 was the best of all new RE games because it followed the scrip and story of original. Most new games will get political…

Nah it's not. Still plays great. Like I said in the video, emulation does a great job with it on modest PCs and of course PS2s still work fine.
