    5:00 OMFG thank you!!!! Dude this video NEEDS to go viral, so many other people have ignored the sound issues! Legendary Axe & Keith Courage too! The damn thing was announced 3 years ago, how can they not get the sound right, I hate all the other youtubers won't mention the sound problems. I mention the sound issues in the Analogue Pocket FB group & they basically just said idk what I'm talking about

    The thing with the CD drive is that they are using an off the shelf laptop DVD drive. (a LG GS40N)
    On one hand: That does mean if the drive does break, it should be easy enough to get a replacement.
    On the other hand: Its 2024, and laptop disc drives have been going the way of the dodo for nearly a decade. Slot loading drives were already kinda rare on the market, and I can only name 2 slot loading disc drives that are still being manufactured, this LG GS40N, and the Panasonic UJ-8C5, and they aren't exactly 100% interchangeable since the LG is 9.5mm thick, while the Panasonic is 12.7mm.

  • @PM-xc8oo
    @PM-xc8oo 11 месяцев назад +14

    That is just way too many minor issues for something with such a premium price tag. And I will agree in the disdain for front loading disc drives. That is nothing but extra points of failure for a system that could have easily implemented a pop top.

    Thank you so much for diving deep into the comparisons especially the sound FX pitch differences! As somebody who doesn’t own the original hardware but is wanting to be as accurate to the originals as possible, it’s super helpful to be aware of these details. I’m hoping they unlock more audio settings in the next FW update as well as make the defaults sound more accurate. The splatter house example seems like it’s not just pitch but possibly clipping issue too. I’m not an audio expert though so maybe it’s an entirely different issue
    I’m currently still testing cd games ( PCEWorks) vs bin/cue versions from the turbo everdrive pro. Sadly I’m already noticing some audio skipping and hitching on some CDs. They are newly opened too.

    Thanks for this review, I agree with most of it.
    My unit has some weird issues with CD based games, it usually works fine, but sometimes the very same CD’s that run just fine start having major audio issues (skipping, not playing, etc).
    The weird thing is that a power cycle can fix this, but it is distracting for sure.

    I had to get mine off a friend (who let me purchase his after I preordered when the news dropped they'd ship in december after all, only for them to delay a batch to Feb 24, leading me to go that route instead), but I'm really digging it so far. Still, yeah your points are pretty valid and match a lot of my thoughts as well. I love the playtime tracking feature and how it catalogs your games, but going from those prelaunch reviews to the duo itself and seeing all the blank squares made me irked.
    Someone on the FPGA discord found a way to convert stuff to get it to work on the thing and made files that work on the Duo so the thumbnails are like the press SD card images, which I find handy, but I will say if you have a ton of games in the library loading these images can outright lock up the duo when browing the library, which... may be the reason they left them off or won't tell anyone how to format them right lol. Oh well. I did clear Exile from start to finish in Japanese and yeah the SE was off in that game too, especially with the attack noise. Going from the perfect Mega SG to this is very disappointing, but I'm just glad it exists at all so I can play my TG games without RF, and so I can start CD collecting! Finding a standalone CD unit for my TG was proving impossible.

    I found a trick for operate the everdrive (not pro version) on the analog duo. You must first start on a real hucard game, exit the game, insert the everdrive, go to library, select the previous game and launch it, this manipulation allows you to launch the everdrive ✌️✌️✌️

    Thanks to a very tenacious person with far more patience than I have, we have two full Library Image sets. One with Title Screens and one with Box Art. So we're actually doing better than the reviewers in that regard. I'd post the link, but this comment will get nuked if I do. It's on the AnalogueInc sub, though. Shouldn't be hard to find.
    I am starting from scratch with the Duo. I have wanted an old Turbo Duo for years, but never found one at a price that didn't make my eyes bleed. So for $250, it was a no brainer. I'm building my library now, and I may havegone a bit crazy by also getting a Turbo Everdrive Pro. I'm finding the Teddy to be very useful in deciding what games I want to have real copies of. All in all, it's not perfect, and considering that no person on earth is, it's hard to expect perfection from any product created by a person, as well. I think in this day and age, we're getting a wee bit too hung up on what's wrong, and we sometimes forget to appreciate what's right.
    Great video!

    The other thing you MUST do is update the recommended controllers! Yes, they work with the USB receiver plugged in, but they are supposed to work without it... And if you try to play with 2 controllers, there are even more problems. Bomberman is not a classic on PC Engine? I am surprised many reviewers missed that part! To update the recommended 8Bitdo controllers, you can't use their software but have to do a manual update (transfering a DAT file to the controller connected to a PC via USB). If you look for the Dock Update, it is the one. Once I updated my controllers, then the experience started to be fun... But before, I almost regretted buying it... ALSO, I recently acquired an Analog Pocket, and now I understand why Analog is not including controllers.... They are not very good at making controllers...

(I've heard similar audio complaints for CD games here and there, but maybe the firmware updates will address that.) That technical issue aside, what I *really* want are save states.
