Harold Wilson closed down the mines for economic reasons while Thatcher closed mines to attack the working class and to remove power from the working class by attacking their political structures. She did it to spite the poorest people in the country, and succeeded, which is why the majority of working people in the midlands, north of england, south wales and scotland hate her to the point they celebrated her death.
Lets not forget that she killed off our manufacturing to the point we are now relying on other countries to manufacture most of what we consume.
She killed off our steel industry, our ship building industry, etc. She is the reason why so many were left unemployed and on the welfare. To this day, even with Brexit is because we are still suffering from her policies.

One does not catch cancer; it was not a failing of the NHS.
Bevan, as far as I'm concerned, was a national hero. He understood politics, he understood the global political situation after WW2, and he understood how to make the country a better place.
I don't know what your problem is. Who wishes cancer upon someone, even their political rival?!

@RichardElden How is the NHS evil? It's one of the (I would argue THE) most important development in British history.
Bevan and Attlee were a great men, a realists and an inspiration. The 1945-51 Labour government understood the realities of the post-war world (Churchill most certainly did not) and wanted to make Britain a better place.
The centrepiece of their plan, based on the Beveridge Report, was the NHS.
Nobody sane would wish cancer upon their worst enemy, let alone Bevan.

@ukipteen I'm a member of the conservatives as I feel they represent my views best (especially compared to Labour and Lib Dems). I won't even consider UKIP until they sort themselves out. They have too many "BNP-lite" members and their ban on total immigration for 5 years is ridiculous. I'd consider voting for them in a decade or so when their party grows up a bit.

@MissDumyat Actually, this government was voted in, because the Conservatives beat Labour for votes, but merely did not reach the amount needed to win outright. The votes counted still tell the truth - Labour had far less than Conservatives. The coalition being formed is perfectly legitimate. What would have been far worse, is if the Labour government, who lost masses of votes to the Conservatives, went and formed a coalition. That would mean the party with the least support was in power.

Any healthcare system, socialised, private, a fusion of both (as in many European countries) is a bottomless pit of money. There are 312 million Americans, their country is 37 times larger than ours; their system, even private, is proportional - even considering their collosal near 15-trillion GDP. It does not vary from country to country.

I don't agree with the franchise of globalisation in terms of merchandise, but skin colour, gender, nationality and beliefs garner no reason to be discriminatory.
