    Thank you for another great video, even though I was choking down my tears. All the ships that went down on the lakes or like this ship where there was great loss of life deserve to be remembered, and thank you for taking the time to give us this 😊

    It's an incredibly sad story. I wonder how much complacency played a part? Unfortunately, the ship design was severely lacking. The lack of multiple points of egress was moronic in the extreme. I wouldn't want to board a ship built this way, but as you said, those were different times.
    It makes me think back to travelling on the Prinz Hamlet from Harwich to Hamburg and a week later in reverse. That ship also boarded from a lower deck. I guess as a 15 year old in 1983, I didn't worry about it. Although, I do remember thinking that I'd expected to board much higher up the ships side. Probably because the only other ship that I had ever been on before was HMS Leander as a 10 year old with cub scouts. That was far smaller in hindsight. 😢❤😢

    Horrific tragedy and who would have thought the lemon oil used to beautify and preserve the wood would create a firestorm. Obviously only having to Escape Routes on the bottom deck contributed as well. First I've heard of this tragedy. I look forward to hearing the next informative story.

    Similar to the tragedy of The Morro Castle, her fire started in a closet/locker that needed a key, no adequate fire equipment, no organized escape plan.

    My father was working for the Toronto life saving and police patrol when this happened. He had just come off watch duty and the person who replaced him sounded the alarm as the glow from the fire could be seen and was growing. My father said the erriest thing was the day after where one door on the ship was open and creaking and groaning as it sweyed in the wind.

      Oh wow! I can't imagine how he felt and seeing that devastation afterwards, I hope this video sheds just a tiny light on this story, so it won't be forgotten and for the victims and their families and friends. I am very sad to hear this story.

    Really enjoyed your video presentation of a horrible tragedy. A small pronunciation correction: “quay” is pronounced “key”. This disaster occurred before the St. Lawrence Seaway was built, so a ship of this length likely couldn’t travel further than Prescott at that time owing to the size limits of the old canals between Prescott and Montreal.
