He didn't lose control. It was all just part of his normal crazy routine whenever Rebecca would come on the show. But he definitely had the hots for her. No doubt about it.
Rebecca was always one of my favorite guests on Conan. Besides amazing to look at, she always brought out the best in Conan's raw nervous/awkward comedy.

@@winfield841 Which goes to tell you how messed up "today" is. I mean Ms Romijn (an obviously very smart lady btw apart from being breathtakingly stunning) went to Conan's show like what 4-5 times? Would she really do that if she thought he was creepy? The fact that things like that are immediately labelled "creepy" nowadays just shows how emotionally disabled young people of today are. They can''t see any nuance, it''s black or white. And it's sad.

No one can drop any statement of their liking without considering the slightest chance of it being construed as “offensive”, which I believe made comedy suffer, as nuance died.
Emotionally disabled/unstable is definitely spot on. But I’d rather frame it on the subject of contention of this generation which is identity and that touches everyone.

Haha, I'd forgotten about this side of Conan, the very raw and ate up side of him. But I also hadn't seen this clip before. I feel like it was ''creepy'' in the best, most raw and honest way. He laid out so much of the nervous (and beyond here) awkward energy that clearly he'd experienced when he was younger around attractive females. Later on he more typically gained a lot more confidence around his female guests (with some more minor callbacks to this kind of energy). But by whenever that time period came around he'd had years of experience interviewing all kinds of people.
But yeah I'm many people can relate to being nervous when one of the world's most beautiful women comes into your social orbit and your expected to carry on and try to run a talk show nonetheless. That could be tricky for a lot of people, but he made it ironically hilarious in the weirdest way. I had to pause it multiple times (from laughing and catching my ''did he really just say and do that'' breath) just to get thru this sorta short clip.
As much as I love Craig Ferguson's run on late night (he and Johnny Carson are probably the best at least for American talk shows, but Conan is very close on their heels), too many discount how good Conan could be.
And while I can't say that this is one of his very best segments as it's risking going off the rails (without means of recovering), but it showcases his comedic ability and expression at it's (at least) near rawest. Some of his very best stuff has been him going on location to various countries and interacting with people in the funniest and most off the cuff way kinda like top flight jazz musician improvising in the moment.
But yeah she was kind enough to let him off the hook for being chaotic and weird around her. Some actresses/models would've tensed up and been insulted, but she just rolled with it and laughed whether she was nervous or not (likely so). But this kooky dynamic had likely been built up over their previous interviews together. Of course that magazine cover was some potent fodder for someone who already had a nervous crush on her. But anyway they got thru eventually and he's calmed down since ; )

Did anyone else notice how she was able to recite, completely off the hip, the letter "I pledge to you that no one should ever see..." I thought that was pretty damn impressive.
Yeah for sure, she's one of the smarter blonde model/actresses. She's definitely proven that a number of times over the years. And since she's also maintained her gorgeousness, it's no wonder she maintained success for so long. She's just got good energy : )
I loved her on The Librarians TV series that was in TNT. It was kind of a copy of Warehouse 13 (but that had been sadly and inexplicably canceled shortly before it started), but that show had borrowed some of the creative DNA from the three The Librarian tv movies the first they made years before. So it was kinda reciprocal and if you like one, you'll probably like the other too. And they were all based on the initial premise of ''What other fantasical relics and artifacts could be in that warehouse at the end of Raiders of The Lost Ark?''
But anyway I'm tangenting on a couple of my favorite shows ; )

He was still pretty on fire in the wacky ate up comedy zone in at least the early 2000's as I remember watching him live then and thinking how hilariously raw he was. In more recent years his on travelogue adventures in various countries are pretty damn top shelf top too. It reawakens that crackling live wire nerve of his. He clearly had a lot of fun with those. He was like a comedic jazz musician just riffing with whoever he interacted with : )
Gotta say he is genuinely funny in this clip. Great team work from Rebecca R too - great chemistry. Watched it a few times and still find it funny. I think only Conan can pull this off; he is different.

Oh he's went off the deep end a number of times, but not necessarily aimed towards his attractive guests. This was definitely one of his most peak going off the rails moments. He used to get unhinged fairly regularly in his monologs at least in the early 2000s. That was when I first became a fan as I'd never seen anyone do comedy quite that before. He's still a pretty signature blend of a comedian in my book ; )

I really like Conan because he makes himself a fool, but not in a way that will target the guest directly. He'll use awkwardness targeting himself, often in compliment of the guest (as here), whereas someone like Letterman or Kimmel like to make it awkward for the guest, making them seem laughable, which I find quite bullish.
Yes, great commentary. I haven't seen much of Kimmel doing that (as I don't watch him much and has rarely made me laugh), but I've read about his creepiness. And I did see here on YT his ''guess what's in my pants'' segment. Whew! What the heck was he thinking!?
But anyway yeah Letterman has had his share of uber creepy moments too. There's been some certain female guests (and yet some lady guests like Tina Fey loved socializing with him) where he became more focused in his quest to redefine creepiness. There was one actress who he liked one of her curls of hair (I think it was Jennifer Aniston, but I'd rather not remember seeing it). That was truly a bridge troll moment for him, maybe his worst ever moment on tv. And whoever she was, I bet she cut that off afterwards ; )
But I mean unlike Kimmel at least he could be damn funny, especially in his earlier days (like late 80s/early 90s).
I'll say his interviewing skills can be so painfully awkward with potentially any guest. I typically avoid his interviews and stick to what he's actually good at. Some of his best was pranking customers at fast food drive thru windows while their giving their orders. It's hard to imagine very many being better at that than him. He's a very specific personality for sure, I'm still baffled by him at times, never know what to expect other than likely some degrees of awkwardness will be involved, even at a low simmer ; )
