It very disturbing that anyone would vote not to expel Santos. It doesn’t matter what party you support, integrity matters. The guy was basically embezzling and lied on his resume/application. A regular employee would be fired on the spot for a lot less.

I’d like to think that the standards of conduct required to be a member of Congress should be higher than “Not a criminal”. You can hold someone accountable to those standards without waiting for a conviction. Expelling him from Congress is NOT the same as sending him to jail, so there is no crossing of the division of powers.
He took campaign money for personal expenses. Sounds criminal to me. A regular person doing that would be accused of embezzling or misappropriation of funds and fired.

On the PBS channel, one reporter happens to be next to Santos office when a maintenance worker started to change the door locks on Santos’ office after he left. I guess they didn’t trust Santos, and he may have made duplicate keys to his office.

The vote was based on the ethics investigation, which is about confidence, and not a reflection of the courts. We can always count on republicans to move the goal post whenever their integrity, facts, or power is in question.

There is a valuable takeaway here that people need not ignore, and its this: conservatives have made a big deal in the last few years out of culture war issues, particularly "cancel culture" often placing themselves as the victims of it. However you can only be cancelled by your own people, not others. Democrats would've been more than happy to expel santos months ago, but they couldn't, and it wasnt until republicans decided to out one of their own that it actually happened.
You cannot be canceled unless your own allies decide to, and what occurred today is a perfect example of it. So maybe we can finally put this topic to rest.
