I was in a solid relationship from age 16-21 with one person, and this is yet another “too close to home” song for me. Movements has been my favorite since well before him and I separated. I remember him and I preordering “feel something” together and our mutual excitement when picking it up from our local music store. We spent that evening driving around listening to the album from start to finish and getting utterly lost in every lyric. Those are times I’ll never forget. Thank you, Movements.
I developed a nasty heroin & cocaine habit trying in the process with moving forward but she ended up getting in car accident & went home. 14 to 25 i swear we would of been already married at this point. While your single start healthy outlets while your adjusting to everything like journaling or whatever. If i were you id work on my spiritual, emotional, mental well being so down the line theres no time to waist & become the man she couldnt resist. I was with someone from 13 to 19 and she has a kid now we both 27 now and I can't forget about her I used to drink those years now I drink tell I can't Remember drugs when I can get my hands on them I miss her lose her took me 6 years to get over her not fully but mostly we also lost our virginity to each other

To me its the age group thing and everyone goes through similar things in similar times in their lives. because Pat and I are the same age, when Nineteen came out, i was instantly able to relate to it. Same for this song, as my exes are getting engaged and married and stuff.

God- this song just hits hard, Took me 5 years to admit to myself I’m in love with an old best friend who became distant with me, she haunts my dreams every night and my thoughts, I miss her dearly and i never got to tell her how i truly feel during the times we were close, I decided to man up and write her a letter about how I’ve felt about her all these years. I love this song and I keep coming back to it over and over again. My "one that got away" story is tragically painful and leaves me with nothing but guilt and regret. Never met anyone more perfect for me and I ruined it. 6 years later and it still haunts me.

I haven't seen her in over a year, I don't think I even want to. There was a time I would've done anything for this chick.
I dunno. I don't know what to feel. I just feel empty. I've never been in a relationship but that was the closest thing I had to one. I fantasized about living a life with her, the first person I ever actually loved. These last two years have completely killed me, I just feel empty. I don't even feel like myself anymore. She'll go on to have a family and a husband and a life. I'll be the same way I've always been, alone, a lost cause.

@@nerdstorma8427 That's one of the roughest things to go through. Been in the same situation you are in a couple of months ago. The best thing you can do is reflect on your life, let go from the thought of someone else fullfilling it and think about how you can do that yourself. We are basicly doomed if we depend on someone else to bring us happyness, if we search for it ourselfes i do believe that the world around us will respond at some point. Don't give up on yourself, best of luck!

Seneca was a philosopher who wrote tragedies I think. So my guess is Seneca refers to the other person playing a major part in this story of the lovers' life, which is a tragedy, for he couldnt have her. So, I think in other words we could say that the lovers' life was written as a tragedy by the other person just like Seneca wrote tragedies. Could be wrong though😛
Patrick the frontman speaks of Seneca as a type of white deer that is illegal to hunt up in Seneca falls. He explains that it’s like seeing something so beautiful and not being able to grasp it.
I read an urban dictionary explanation saying it was a girl who thinks she is mean and cruel but is actually really kind and nice. 🤷 I think between all these different explanations this song does what music does best; leave just enough mystery for the song to mean something different to every individual who listens. Half the time the listener will take the words more deep than the writer intended. That's the beauty of music, the same song will hit thousands and thousands of people in its own way. Whatever it meant to you is what it means. Whatever you relate too and gets you through the day is what it's true meaning is, to you at least.

I love this song because I interpret it a little different. I was in love with this woman but she was incredibly toxic and I broke up with her and things went south fast. She has tried so hard to make my life a living hell and crazy enough I still miss our good times. But I knew I had to leave. So I let her go even though we had an amazing connection. Song hits just right

Everybody has that one person who it just never worked out with and you’re always going to wonder about the ‘what if’s. In America, and I don’t know how well this translates to Australia, oftentimes you call your one that got away, the slang term is your ‘white buffalo’ because they’re super rare. Obviously that was the idea that I was trying to portray but saying ‘white buffalo’ in a song sounds really stupid. So I did a little bit of research, looked up some really rare animals because I was just thinking ‘How can I make these lyrics cooler?’
“I was just wondering what I could do and if there was some sort of symbolism I could use, and I found a deer that is very specific to one section of the north-east part of the United States, and it’s called the Seneca White Deer. They’re super endangered, there’s only about 200 left alive and you can’t hunt them because that is a very big area for sport hunting, but the white deer in particular, you’re not allowed to kill because they’re protected. So me saying “You were a seneca in the crosshairs” is like saying I had you in my sights, you were tangible, you were there but I had to let you go.”

This girl that I’ve been friends with for nearly a decade who I was madly in love with moved across the country, and I never got to show my feelings towards her because I was nervous and afraid at how it would affect our friendship. Now she’s gone and everyday I regret not telling her how I feel and now I’m in a deep depression. This song explains my situation almost verbatim.
UPDATE: Two years later she unfriended me on Facebook and won't even talk to me or text me. So I guess for whatever reason she's made the decision that she wants nothing to do with me anymore and she's out of my life forever. I'm so done.
