Very interesting technique, great results too. You just have to be aware that sharp top edges, say the end of a cube, will still cause deep plunges and may still damage the tool. Guess this is something to be evaluated on a per-job basis.
Great jobs as always Roger. Your video always inspire me. With the MDF what did you do to sand the finished product? It looked like from the machine is had some grooves from the tool head, but what you held up looked like it had been sanded.
Please post your feeds and speeds, this would really help us. Also there is a big step difference in the piece from when it came off the CNC looking like minecraft/lego art to a nice beautiful smooth finished piece. Did you run an additional pass with 1mm cutter or did you sand it. Please comment on your finishing technique.
You know if you did a roughing pass on the whole piece with a 1/2 inch end mill before you use your smaller tapered ball nose, it would remove a majority of the material first which would end up finishing the piece faster then you would if you just used the smaller tapered ball nose as well as it is easier on your tooling. This is how I have been doing it for the past 10 years and I have never broken a tooling yet.
Ron Hutcheon Yes he is helping people but what took him 4 hours would have only taken 1-2 hours doing it the right way. And to answer your question I'm new to RUclips so I haven't done any videos yet. Plus it doesn't matter if I do or not, but if you're going to help somebody you should help them the proper way not the way that's going to take forever to do a cost you time and money especially if you're trying to do this for a living in making money like most hobbyist do they try and sell stuff if it's going to take you four hours to make a product that probably cost a fortune to sell and nobody's gonna buy it, because you have to charge for the time it took to make that product.
I am surprised by the detail in MDF. I always have trouble with thin sections breaking off while routing. Looks like a neat project. Do you sell these?
if you look closely at the piece when he finished with the 6mm it still had lego ledges/minecraft looking steps in the piece...then he snaps to the finished and all the rounded humps are all nice and smooth. so either he spent 2 hours sanding it or he ran a 1mm cutter.

What's your favorite brand of cnc router? All I would like to use it for is wood carving
DATRON
My question is that how you will paint on the MDF
oohw I enjoyed! it was amazing to see how it was made!
is it faster if you make bigger tool first ?
Lovely. How much would you sell a 3D carving done on maple size 6"x9"
Thanks
would you not rough out all deep areas in 1st past to quicking total time and save machine hours.
Great jobs as always Roger. Your video always inspire me.

Amazing. How many of these works the bit can do until it got worn?

Did you watch it? He actually discusses roughing cuts!
Yes I did watch it but the way he is doing it does not give you the greatest quality.
What is discussed is the "trenching cut" after which the 3mm bit is used entirely. It is bound to be faster with roughing cuts.
I am surprised by the detail in MDF. I always have trouble with thin sections breaking off while routing. Looks like a neat project. Do you sell these?
Does the aztec calendar that is behind you is machining in your router?, do you have the video?, congrats from México
Hi, yes the video is 150.

I want to turn the coolant on/off only when cutting is being done. How? Help?
Good work, but as per my knowledge I think, it needs to finish with 1mm ball nose cutter after the 3mm cutter.
if you look closely at the piece when he finished with the 6mm it still had lego ledges/minecraft looking steps in the piece...then he snaps to the finished and all the rounded humps are all nice and smooth. so either he spent 2 hours sanding it or he ran a 1mm cutter.
